Comfort food memes

Welcome to this dump of foodie memes. Sometimes I make the memes themed, sometimes I don't. If you enjoy laughing without talking politics and escaping reality, you’ll love following this page!

Does anyone actually like them? Have they even tried honeycrisp?

The blue ones, specifically

Would try

Evil bread

Or in my case, I’m given soy milk

And pay $27.95 for it

This is why I hate cooking

It’s true

Got worried for a second there

This is my mother

Taco Bell

Perfect

Ugh, is this Dasani?

I mean, it’s not completely unhealthy

Based off the bananas in my house

Why call it berry?

My kids could NEVER

Did laugh

Me, every night

Food pyramid is dumb anyway

True

Perfect for a bad day

#3 Royal Gala every day of the week. I've also got my own Red Devil tree which is very nice.

#3 I personally wouldn't go this far, but I do agree that the name, Red Delicious, is a bold faced lie!

honeycrisps wish they were ambrosia's. Which leads into golden delicious apples also being better than honeycrisps.

#12 what did they do wrong? They did what you asked.

If You didn't have to eat to survive, would You still do it?

6 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Honestly, not for most things, but my husband loves to cook, and I love things he makes for me. Or like one of 3 recipes I know.

6 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yup

Food is amazing. I feel like the question is on par with asking people why they have sex (not for procreation) because it isn't needed for individual survival. Or why they read or watch TV or anything that many people find enjoyable and is not tied to survival.

When I'm not homeless, I make batches of 40+ cookies. They aren't necessary for my survival. But they ARE necessary for my survival.

Try a cosmo apple OP. They are almost as good as Honey Crisp.

I have and I do like them

#3 Has anyone actually ate an apple from a tree? Anything in the grocery stores has been stored for months and years. I wonder what an actually ripe red delicious tastes like?

6 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

I wonder that too

So much shame about just eating food to keep yourself alive... Why? Being skinny does not mean being healthy. Or 'better' than others

#18 As Sir PTerry once wrote, food eaten while walking has no calories. Also, a chocolate that ends up being one you didn't like doesn't count as a chocolate.

#2 I've only ever had "Red Delicious" my entire life
I never knew of an of these other breeds...
Granted, last time I had an apple was......... wow...decades?
Maybe munches pieces for a snack on an air line trip or food kit, but.. I can't remember the last time I had an apple.. I remember the orchards back in Saginaw Mi.... and the cider donuts.

Try literally any other kind of reddish apple.

6 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Try literally any other kind of apple.

(There's a pale yellow one who kinda sucks too, but tons of any and all colors that don't, so I'll stick to saying try any other. Preferably one that someone, anyone, recommend locally.)

#3 honeycrisp are not even in my top 20 apple varieties. They're too sweet. These years, I am partial to pink lady, jonagold, opal, crispin. I do like gold delicious, empire, 20 ouncer, northern spies, idareds, macintosh, although they're not as good as when I was a kid. Granny Smiths are okay. I grew up around apples and they were always better right from the farm.

Granny Smiths are meant for apple pie only, imho.

+1. Curious if folks really prefer that red (sweet & sour?) sauce over the hot mustard sauce? I’ve always seen hot mustard or chile oil sauce.

6 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I do not like that one. There’s a semi clear, orangey one that’s much better. Best one was an in house made version at a Chinese place in Germany. I could drink that stuff. Sadly, don’t live there anymore.

#3 they actually weren’t bad but they were so selectively bred for their color, shape, and hardiness that the flavor and texture suffered. I remember a local orchard grew Red Delicious apples and they were amazing.

Nowadays, though, they are red garbage.

They don’t let them ripen on the tree as long then they use that gas to “ripen” them. That’s the problem with most of the fruits in a supermarket. Grow your own tomatoes, easiest fruit to grow next to jalepenos and pablanos. These chilis are easy to freeze, I cut the paplanos in strips (Philly steak sandwiches) or dice (chili or soups) then freeze. Still have some from last summer.

Yeah, they used to actually be good. Now they're all mealy and flavourless.

6 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Red Delicious are... 𝘰𝘬𝘢𝘺 when peeled. The skin is so thick and bitter. The apple flesh is still kind of mealy, but tastes good enough. It'd be nice if they restored some heirloom varieties, though.

I'm not a huge fan of honeycrisp; a bit too sweet. Would prefer a typical McIntosh or Cortlands are my favorite but harder to track down.

Same happened to tomatoes

6 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The reds are no longer delicious
Tomatoes seem to have suffered the same fate honestly

6 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Thankfully tomatoes are still amazing where I live (have heard horror stories about American tomatoes) but the Red Garbage apples are mealy and flavorless here too.

6 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The tomatoes followed suit, they’re horrible.
Mealy, tasteless. I avoid them at most restaurants unless they are local or home grown .. we had a tomato blight years back and they never seemed to really recover after that but this article says the problem has been going for much longer- it’s the same issue as the red delicious; bred for quantity, shipping and supermarket shelves, and not quality. https://www.foodrepublic.com/1565930/why-tomatoes-less-flavorful/
