Downvote me all you want but I fail to see any humor in a cat that is obviously distressed.
loma45
I won't downvote you, but every creature experiences some distress. If it's not actively being harmed, and you aren't doing it to 1/2
to GET laughs at the expense of the animal, I don't really see the harm. Minimizing distress is good, but eliminating it is unrealistic 2/2
[deleted]
I do see where you’re coming from, but why did this need to be filmed if they were just trying to get the cat familiar with the dog? (1)
I’m not saying that just because these people filmed this that they were doing this for laughs, since many people want to vlog about (2)
their lives, but there is an equal possibility that they decided to record the cat getting upset because it was funny to them.

My tux isn't a fan of the doggies, but she tolerates them. My fluffy longhair from the streets of ATL? Avoids them big time.
Dayum. Streets of Atlanta. I'm impressed. Big ass highways, too many cars. Feral dogs and competing cats. Survivor
arkuamore
Clearly someone doesn't do their research on introducing new pets
HawkmanXLII
I'm not sure that's the kind of cat that will tolerate sharing its home regardless of the introduction. But I agree with your assessment.
Then the owner shouldn't be bringing in a new animal.
ctotheg2
How should the man “improve” walking his dog to his own home?
SecondToNine
Dress it like a cat
DaisyTeddyBear
I laughed way too much at this
If you're introducing two animals for the first time it's best to introduce them by smell first. Visual introductions tend to stress >>
At least one animal. The cat, here. Clearly.
sanaujiram
Go on… what about physical introductions? A box? So smells right before sight?
I'd keep the cat in a bedroom for 4 days or so. Then put a baby gate/chair in the door way so the cat can easily hide from the dog.
I think you're supposed to take the cat to the new dog, before bringing it home over the course of several weeks until the cat knows the dog
flerdaflerpflerps
I don't have time for that. My house cat, fuckin deal. (For the record, i have 2 cats and brought a dog home. And they dealt lol)

Also applies to other pets.
Strangedays2026
While this might be the "best" way, is it really practical for most people?
SeregRauko
TBH people shouldn't have pets out of practicality. It's another life. Taking care of it will be inconvenient if you wanna do it well..
Yes but there are realistic expectations for that and ideal scenario that we can only really consider in lab or theoretical settings.
No, and there are plenty of ways you can compromise on this. Honestly if anyone does the "best" way I'd be concerned for their well being.
At least put the cat in a bedroom for a few days. It's not rocket science.
I'm not saying there aren't other options but asking people to house an animal away from home for days is just silly.
Seizurebleak
Then perhaps these people shouldn't be getting pets they're not willing to take care of properly?
potentiallyunsafe
Right? You can't leave the dog at the shelter for weeks at a time to introduce the cat every day
Then keep the cat in a bedroom while they adjust to eachother.
GiveYourBallsATug69
If you can't afford compromises to ensure the well-being of your pets, don't have pets. It's not complicated.
So much this. But people don't give two shits and will usually put themselves first.
The compromise here is making the cat a little uncomfortable for a short time, not trying to finagle a location to house a dog for weeks...
Tonberryc
I see you've triggered the crazy cat owners of imgur. Nothing like being told you need to rent a 2nd place to get a new pet.
That’s completely impractical
Then don't get a dog if it's 'impractical' for your lifestyle.
Don’t bother getting abrasive on Imgur. Relax, you’ll live longer.
As most of the "supposed to" and "best practices are", no one actually expects you to do this.
It's a fine compromise to put the cat in a bedroom for a few days. Keep them visually separated while they get used to eachothers smells.
That’s makes sense!
Anju42
I suspect that the cat probably does that every time it sees the human out the window. Mostly because they thought to film it.
GemsAreOutrageousTrulyTrulyTrulyOutrageous
Maybe a deaf cat?
Could be. But some cats are just super territorial and get insanely upset if you introduce another animal into the family.
True.
We dealt with this once. We had an old cat, and my parents got me a dog when I was a kid(after my dad died) and the cat fucking hated
everybody for it. Went and lived in recluse essentially and became bitter and mean for the rest of its life before dying on my birthday.
