Joel Osteen refuses to let people into his Houston mega church because of "flooding"

Aug 28, 2017 11:15 PM

Televangelist Joel Osteen claims he cannot let people into his Lakewood Church that has the ability to hold 16,800 people. This guy is an absolute crook and a fraud. I hope a large portion of his flock leave him after this.

People won't remember . They will praise him and love him after the storm is done. Houston won't remember .

BUT HIS E-MAILS! Wait, wrong meme.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Why do I feel there's more to this than "Joel Osteen refuses to let people into his church"?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

unfortunately public buildings are subject to much greater liability, so as much as i hate that this is the fact, it's probs a legal choice

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have been in there when the Rockets used to play there... most of the place is well below ground level so it my be flooded inside.

9 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 5

pretty sure budget-boy would have some serious pumps going on by now if the interior of his Jebus-Bowl was threatened

Apparently the church actually did flood. At least a little. But people just want to rabble rabble rabble

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Didn't his church get flooded too over the weekend? It's not a safe place to stay.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Joel and his wife are vile people

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 5

Ooooh Joel...You've now made it to IMGUR's People Are Shit List. That's a lot of donors dude.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

this could have turned into the same thing that happened in katrina. it was a wise move to close the doors if the crowd got to big

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is now how christians are supposed to act. On their behalf, I'm really sorry!

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

Guys guys let's put our torches down. A quick google search said the church was indeed flooded.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sorry!

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 8

Why does he look like shaven lord Baelish (little finger) so much?!

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Don't care for him but it looks hard to get to his church

9 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 8

People would be dropped off. Likely by boat.

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

His church is in one of the most populous areas of Houston. Per the map you linked to - 69s is open, 610s connecting to 69s, & all backroads

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

the grb isn't easy to get to for people that were evacuated off of their roof, but rescuers take them there

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I guess people are supposed to swim up to the church to get shelter? Seems legit. But no let's pile on an easy target like a megachurch.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 28

Except now he's going to open it after public pressure. Seems like people can get there.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

I don't like the guy but public pressure doesn't mean he necessarily refused to use his space. Maybe he was trying to let emergency workers

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Handle it. And then the public shaming came and he talked to the emergency people & they were like heck yeah open it up! Heres instructions

9 years ago | Likes 101 Dislikes 4

Is the Sikh Gurdwara still hosting their free kitchen throughout this disaster?

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Should be, if they still have enough ingredients and food

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

He has a private jet and a house worth 10mil or more. His church is 50mil or more, i doubt he helps anybody but the pockets he wears

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

"Supposed to be" and "are" are different.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Maybe the church has already been filled with two of every animal

This guy is a professional pep talker. The guy cherry-picks sections from the Bible to make promote wealth and self admiration.

Pep talker?? Any anything other than religion you would call him a criminal.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

For fuck's sake. Why not just leave it at he's a douche? Why must every mention of religion trot out the No True Scotsman fallacy?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 6

You can't pretend to be a follower of a religion THAT SAYS you should help people in need and not do it. He also makes $ from said religion.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Probably because he is using religion to scam less fortunate people, by playing on there faith.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The dude makes money from a religion and now goes against it. Religious figures are proven hypocrites all the time and he is no exception.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

To play Devil's Advocate, you let even a fraction of that 16k people into that building and shit is gonna get really cray.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

You're right. That's when you also take a small, small part of your multi-million dollar fortune and pay for relief workers to manage shit.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sure, that would help but they wouldn't have this big building to reside in which they need more right now. Insurance companies right now1/2

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2/2 have already put a binding suspension on TX and wouldn't allow any increases in coverage to protect the building from any potential 2/3

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

video of it not being flooded https://twitter.com/SeanUnfiltered/status/902314878303703041

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm not trying to defend him, I'm just simply stating that internet mobs usually jump the gun and get a lot of facts wrong.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Apparently it was closed because they were prepping the building and getting air mattresses. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Sounds like some back pedaling bullshit. A solid roof and dry floor is plenty good in the short term.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

If there was evidence of flooding, he should've posted it. He was able to backpedal because there was nothing wrong in the first place.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

No no. Let's not talk rationally. Let's just go viral or Twitter first.

9 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 9

Aah yes, quickly publicly shame someone, so that any action they take afterwards shows them negatively. People are fucking retarded.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 5

It's called public accountability for wealthy public religious figures... and it worked. Grow up.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Yeah, tell yourself it worked and pat yourself on the back.Nevermind the actual reality of the situation, who needs that.People are retarded

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Horseshit. This guy claims to preach the Gospel. That absurd church should've been open day one of this shit, with hot meals and cots.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

US Army does hots'n'cots, but they're busy overseas.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, and the mission of the military isn't exactly caring for the poor and sick. These so-called Christians and their mega-church though?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Does the US army really not have disaster relief roles? I find that kind of hard to believe. And what about the National Guard?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

the mission of the government includes (in civilised countries) caring for the citizenry, & the Army does what they're told. They could help

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

the people don't get to give a religious group their orders, but they do in theory give the government theirs.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Eh it's more complicated than that. The military is not a relief agency. It's not the cops. However, in extreme situations they can help.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Man, I want there to be. But his church isn't flooding. Why isn't he down there volunteering?

9 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 2

"His church isn't flooding" Just because it isn't flooded right now doesn't mean it's not at risk.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

The church does nothing for the community. No blanket drives. No food kitchens after disasters. Their website has nothing but book sales.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Is he? Isn't he? I don't know what he's doing or who he is, all I know is what this meme wants me to conclude about him during a disaster.

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 5

The church is now "prepping" to receive folks. As for who he is; Osteen's a shitbag televangelist. That's really all there is to know.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Considering that he's now decided to open his doors to evacuees after public outcry, some good has come from folks questioning his inaction.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

Is it possible that he had to round up church employees to help with handling the people who needed to stay there?

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Employees? Shit, he's got an audience of 16,000. None of those good Christians could volunteer their time to help their neighbors?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

you think his flock's going to leave? If they havn't caught on how much of a scam he is by now, they're not gonna go anywhere...

9 years ago | Likes 1436 Dislikes 13

Clearly he must be doing good work for god to look after him and prevent flooding in the church. /s

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

he probably just paid the big guy off

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He probably let the wealthiest parishioners inside.

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

He's a scumbag but no need to make it worse than it is. It's just not helpful.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Legitimately asking for any links to articles I can read about it please and thank you?

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

dude he is a well known peice of shit scammer. if you look it up on google i bet it wouldn't be hard at all to find some shady shit on him..

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

What sources are trustworthy?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

all sources are, if you can tell where they come from and what their bias is likely to be. read many, adjust for truth.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What do I need to search for? where do I need to go to look for it? I've Googled it but it only brings up his sermons and shit like that.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

People who go to those bigass churches are fucking idiots who are used to being scammed I dont think this will matte much tothem cause faith

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The power of a person selling hope is a ry dangerous thing when executed like this. More cult than logic so I doubt it.

9 years ago | Likes 159 Dislikes 1

It's religion... What is it if not a cult?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

not all religious worship builds a cult. Cults have very specific mechanics. religion is bad, cults are worse.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

We talking about current POTUS?

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

yup. It's easy to recognize fire&brimstone guys. He is so much more subtle, so much more Dangerous. and people eat it up, eager to be taken.

9 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 1

A lot of churches preaching the "prosperity gospel" have very high turnover. People come, stay for a bit, then leave disappointed.

9 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 0

I hope so but do they really? Every time I meet someone religious, they've been like that for years and usually stay like it. =/

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm religious, I just don't think God is a vending machine. It's more biblical and practical.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And more destitute people will take their place over time, until we start to have a shortage of suckers or the gullible hopeless.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

As long as the preacher leaves prosperous(sp?)

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You're good on the spelling, actually

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Up until now I've liked Joel Osteen. I'm so disappointed.

9 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 29

Why on earth would you like such a person?

9 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

Matthew 6:24. Joel Osteen is no Christian, and not even close to being a good human being.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I get it, for those of us who pick and choose what messages and rituals we like to practice "atheism 2.0" via awesome TEDtalk...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

My particular favorite was the crows & eagles story he would tell, helped me work through some work shit. This doesn't entirely shock me tbh

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

He's an obvious crook. Please don't just move on to some other shyster.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

People like him play on others fears and insecurities. The people that follow him are not aware of their own spirituality so they try 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

to latch into the beliefs of someone else like this guy.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you don't mind my asking, what is it you like about him?

9 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

He usually talks about kindness, forgiveness, not holding on to grudges. I'm not a devotee, sometimes I see his sermons, stop and listen.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

And the obscene wealth?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

he talks About that too. his main message is "ask god to make you rich and prosperous, he'll eventually help if you're pious enough"

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He's like a Ferengi whi discovered a new Rule of Acquisition
