Ji-hyun Park is a North Korean refugee living in the UK.
Park first escaped North Korea with her brother in 1998 when they traveled to China and were Park was then sold into a forced marriage to a Chinese farmer for 5,000 yuan (600 pounds) with whom she had a child deemed stateless by the Chinese government.
In 2004 local villagers reported Park to the authorities resulting in her repatriation to North Korea and the endurance of horrific conditions in a labor camp.
Ji-Hyun Park spent a year inside the brutal Chongjin labour camp, where she was forced to perform back-breaking manual labour after being deported from China as an 'economic defector'
After disobeying orders, Ji-Hyun was forced to clean out the filthy toilets in the labour camp with her bare hands.
Working long hours (4:30 am - midnight) on the mountainside to create terraced fields, the starving women would eat rats and raw potatoes in their fight for survival.
Today, Ji-hyun lives in Manchester with her partner and four children, where she is rebuilding her life after suffering in the labour camps.

Jesus Christ. The cruelty of people never fails to astound me

This shit is the proof that God does not exist.

Read the book "In Order To Live"; same escape story. Absolutely crazy stuff. Eating grass to survive, crossing a desert...

I was looking for this comment. Fantastic book.

WTF is wrong with this world

Any story I hear about people escaping NK is totally nuts. I have nothing but respect for her and others trying to just survive.

5 years ago | Likes 85 Dislikes 0

I almost feel like they should be given a silver platter for what they've gone through but know it's not what they'd want.

5 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Not only did she escape once but TWICE?! Damn! A lot of refugees in China get separated and sold like her. Your "guide" is a paid smuggler.

5 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

When people say that's not our problem, I think about stories like this. The things others have lived through. I just can't turn a blind

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

eye to other people's suffering. I'll fight for their rights to be treated like humans. I can't pretend it's not my problem.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'm tired, boss. Mostly, I'm tired of people being ugly to each other.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

NK and China are utter pieces of trash.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Never take for granted how lucky you are.

5 years ago | Likes 293 Dislikes 1

It's never luck for nations. It is about wise personal decisions from every single citizen. Take great care, who you vote, support or fight.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I came to this country as a refugee in 2000 from Afghanistan. I am grateful for every single moment that I breath in this country

5 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Most of the people are not so lucky. Some are dead and some are on the streets starving

5 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

I think I read that only one man has made it through the mine fields between North and South Korea. It's messed up that they are prisoners.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

And China has the audacity to criticise Australia & other countries for human rights abuse.

5 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

It's all a distraction. Whataboutism.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

This is what Trump is supporting when he kisses Kim Jung Un’s ass.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

....and people moan about difficult lockdown conditions because of Covid....thanks for sharing @Op

That is a terrible story.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Think about some real fucking problems next time any of you antimaskers want to protest wearing masks.

5 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 2

I know someone who defends North Korea saying all the bad things we hear about it is propaganda. I say any country that restricts wifi

has something to hide.

Never has an upvote arrow been so well placed as the one for this comment!

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Farah Ahmedi has a tragic story of escaping Afghanistan during the Taliban takeover. She lost everyone but her mother, and now lives in US

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The Chinese are downvoting this, surely isn't N. Koreans they don't have internet

5 years ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 4

Yes... All 13 downvotes. Such an elaborate conspiracy!

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Who else would downvote it?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

People that are pissed, because two videos do not have sound on PC? (not me though)

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That would be petty of them.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They have a fairly active cyber unit, but I don't know if they give a shit about Imgur

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Fuck. I am so uncool. Anyway, Donate to charities that support refugees.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Her struggle does not diminish yours. Hera was worse, but yours sucks for you too.

5 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 7

We can still feel pain for the struggles we’ve known, but it’s important to have perspective now more than ever.

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Puts a lot of these crybabies' bullshit in perspective though. This is real suffering. This is real tyranny. This is real slavery.

5 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

Absolutely

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Fuck n.korea..fuck China..

5 years ago | Likes 171 Dislikes 1

the governments not the people

5 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 2

Agreed

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Our president’s friends? Golly!

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What do you think of Aussie soldiers killing Afghanistan civils? Sure no one in imgur care and on media report cuz...double standard?

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 32

Fuck them too, and fuck your whataboutism. One bad thing does not make another thing not bad.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

An isolated case of human rights violations which is being dealt with with the full force of Australian law. Australians don’t approve 1/2

5 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 1

And are embarrassed by the allegations. We’re not even remotely close to a fascist regime like NK or China where millions have died.

5 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 1

so this women's sotry is not an isolated case? And Aussie investigated the incident by prosecuting the whistleblower?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

So why doesn't America invade NK like they did the middle east and "liberate" their people.

5 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

Surprised no one get the sacarism here...or maybe I am the fool?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Have you heard of a country called China, they are friends with NK and they wouldn’t be very happy if the USA invaded their friend.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Because of China. For China NK exists to distract the US and South Korea.

5 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Cause that's a nuke waiting to happen. NK launches first. We retaliate. China would get involved. Next thing you know it's WW3.

5 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

NK also is a sort of 'buffer' between western SK and communist China/Russia.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I think we did that once...it was a draw. Technically I believe we're still at war.

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Fuck North Korea and fuck China...ban me if you must but honestly fuck them. Also shame on America (I'm USA) for being so focused on...

5 years ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 0

..."fixing" racism and making things right and "preserving freedom" when there are still literal god damn slaves around the world. Nigga for

5 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 5

real. If you are gonna beat the freedom drum do it for all not just for some. Help human kind not just yourself. Fuck slave owners worldwide

5 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 3

Who is gonna ban for saying something that's fairly uncontroversial?

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Shame on America? WTF. We tried - there was a war. Also look what happened in Iraq. Afghanistan. Can't police the world.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Aussie soldiers have been killing Afghanistan civilians for fun. Thought?

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 10

Make your own post to do this subject justice

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What's this got to do with anything?

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Nothing, neither does this poor woman's story

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Did she ever find her brother?

5 years ago | Likes 418 Dislikes 0

Right?!? Doesn’t sound good tho

5 years ago | Likes 112 Dislikes 0

I’m happy she found her son at least.

5 years ago | Likes 74 Dislikes 0

No. This is a common theme with refugees, the men are usually never heard from again, like Farag Ahmedi's brothers too

5 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

Farah Ahmedi's*

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

her brother was never found. She thinks he was most likely sent back to North Korea and killed but no one knows what happened to him.

5 years ago | Likes 229 Dislikes 0

99% chance this.

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

:( may he be in a better life now.

5 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

... or son?

5 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 46

She found her son and are living in the UK.

5 years ago | Likes 92 Dislikes 0

This is my question too

5 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 28

It said in the last video

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Yes the reunited abd both live in uk says in last clip

5 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 0

The post tells you towards the end that she found her son in China and lives with him and her new partner in the UK.

5 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

Said in the last video

5 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 0

Sorry, couldn't watch the last bit from crying

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

And we've got these utter morons who think that 'tyranny' is being asked to wear a piece of cloth on their faces...

5 years ago | Likes 1262 Dislikes 30

Professional victims

5 years ago | Likes 198 Dislikes 4

They should try explaining their definition of tyranny to someone who's lived under Stalin, or Amin, or Pol Pot, or Mugabe etc etc...

5 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 2

Also, never ask a Korean which Korea we're from. It's racist, and shows ignorance and disregard for this issue. You will likely never meet 1

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 5

Haha perfect

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fuck red hats , they couldn’t endure one day of what this women went thru . She is amazing and I hope more like her find positions of power.

5 years ago | Likes 59 Dislikes 2

Or who think tyranny is having an idiot for president.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

So many still don't understand how good they really have it even after seeing shit like this.

5 years ago | Likes 65 Dislikes 2

"I got mine, fuck all the rest of y'all."

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Problem is, they don’t see it... either it’s not shown or they are willfully blind...

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

That's because anyone not in their group is not considered a real person, so others suffering doesn't matter.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I hate that there are people who think that wearing a mask is 'violating their freedom'.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Complacency is dangerous

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 22

Exactly, that's why it's important to be responsible, wear a mask, wash your hands, etc. Don't get complacent. Lives depend on it.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Doing the bare minimum to qualify for being compassionate to others as befits the social contract is not “complacency”.

5 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 1

THIS is why refugees need our help!

5 years ago | Likes 998 Dislikes 6

Yes! LiNK is a great group of anyone's looking to get involved! https://www.libertyinnorthkorea.org/

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Every refugee story is important. I have my students read Farah Ahmedi's first-hand account. It's powerful, I hope it changes their views

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

As a refugee advocate YES!!!!

5 years ago | Likes 76 Dislikes 4

So given there are such desperate cases out there, how do economic migrants fit in, because they take up the same refugee intake numbers

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 5

Take em all in, we need them as much as they need us.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

That attitude is why people have issues with immigrants. I don't want their criminals and I don't want people who will not respect our laws

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Such as religious zealots. Hard job to identify for sure. damn I mean to say immigration.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Migrants =/= refugees.

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Depend on your countries immigration laws...

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

They really don't. Two completely separate streams, and refugees get #1 priority, period. Refugee admission # are governed by pol will only.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Funny no mention about Australian soldiers killing Afghanistan civils at all on imgur and this Korea post just popped out...

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 21

107 neutral? Stirring shit....

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Oh stfu. If it's something you care about then make a post about it and see what happens. Don't highjack other peoples posts because it 1/

5 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 3

I don't care. What bothers me is the double standard and hypocrisy on Imgur

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

exactly what you want. Stop being such a petulant child and make your own content if it matters that much to you. 2

5 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 3

"But they'll take American jobs!" It really is just insane.

5 years ago | Likes 52 Dislikes 11

Exept not refugee is stealing the job , but employer hieing cheap slave labour and taking advantage of refugee crisis.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Thus the quotes. We need to provide some kind of humanitarian effort not seperate families and toss them in cages.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There was a FP post earlier 'If all immigrants are rapists & thieves AND stealing jobs...WTF is your job??' I chuckled.

5 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 3

to be fair...early wave of American settlers/colonists were just that... :V

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

I see....that’s good....

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1
