#18 I really wish that, right after the Debate, somebody had come up with a parody of the yellow 'patriot' flag that had a cat in place of the snake and the motto 'DON'T FEED ON ME.' Ignorance, Hatred and Insanity undoubtedly still would have won, but at least there would have been a bumper sticker.

A woman could nkt buy a house alone unless there was a man to accomoany her until 1970s. Majority of Muslims want a secular state. Now and always. Iran and Iraq pre-1970s were pretty free and women could wear anything they wanted. Libanon was also pretty free country idk how things are atm but they were known for being the Italy of Middle East in that they're very open sexually especially in their talk shows. But 8n other words, theocracy is where the West is headed.
elbdms
No it isn't because we have separation of church and state written into our law. You can breathe, it's gonna be alright. American institutions are still very solid despite all of these attempts to undermine it by people burning the flag, defacing public buildings, and chanting "death to America" and calling for an intifada and Sharia law. This is never gonna happen here. We let people have their tantrums, then we tell them to fuck off and get back to work.

Surely helping your partner with their wardrobe is something everyone does through virtue of being a decent human being and regardless of what roles they play.

Yeah I got no problem with like the second two thirds of the meme. But this "it might look like the man is submissive but no he is actually dominant because this" feels weird to me. But I also get how it can be seen either way, thats why I asked.

Second two thirds....I meant after the first third lol.

#11 This. As unsexy as it may initially seem, responsibility is the core of dominance. You curate the experience of the world for your sub, you solve, you take care of, you arrange and you manage. You are constrained by your obligations so that they may be free.

some people out there just do kink for sex, and that's cool, but D/s and power exchange is a 24/7 thing for me. The venn diagram between D/s and sex for me has about a ~5% overlap.

It's like running a restaurant. Sure, you decide the décor, are in charge of the menu, set the pace, and get to set the price of admission - but it's all worth nothing without the customers buying in, and you have an incentive to cater to their needs, and an obligation to have their permission for everything that actually gets set on the table.
Sure you're in control, but if they don't have a say and aren't getting taken care of, you're doing it wrong, and you won't deserve them coming back.

#14 While I get the sentiment, many men died during the witch trials. The most famous one, Salem, had 14 women and 5 men killed by hanging and one more man by tourture.
castraitionnation
The point is women were the main targets and focus of the witch trials, queer and neurodivergent men are often lumped in to clean house. Nearly twice the amount of women died at Salem and that is true for all the witch trials
Bastiroid
Might be true for America, don't know all of the history there. But in Germany, the witch trials had nothing to do with gender and everything with religion.
There it was, the Catholic church killing Protestants and Jews, with a bit of political rivals for good measure. Being far larger than f.ex salem, the Fulda witch trials saw 900 people killed. Men, women, and children.
dieselfury
I actually didn't know that, so I find this interesting. But, you might approach your phrasing more, you're adding context but you're lead in is contraband and likely to make people ignore you or push back immediately. "They didn't even stop there" for example is a way to add to the conversation rather than derail it
Bastiroid
I get that, Sorry. English isn't my first language, though. It's hard to think how things could be interpreted if I have to think in another language.
For me, knowing the background of the witch trials, it infuriates me to see people taking it as an example of female prosecution when the reality is different.
dieselfury
No worries, was just offering my perspective. For second language English you've been able to communicate your idea without issue. What's sad about the witch trials is how simple minded people become when presented with fear, it feels very close to modern demonization of immigrants and queer people. In the US, people still call others witches. My relatives are convinced Kamala Harris is a witch because of their church leader.
Bastiroid
Thank you, and I totally agree. If the trials would happen today, people like Trump would be up front with a torch in his hand. And just like 500 years ago, the church poisons the mind of simple people
SmoeAhsolse
I agree with your sentiment in principle; though, I don't think they did so poorly. I do want to inquire about your autocorrect or word choices. "you might approach your phrasing more" and "your lead in is in contraband" seem peculiar.
dieselfury
Ha, yeah autocorrect on my end. "approach your phrasing more diplomatically" which must've been erased with the comma and contraband = contrary. Sorry about the confusion.
QueenOfTheFey
It's so weird that Americans consider Salem the most famous with trials, considering it was like a year and 20ish ppl compared to say the Wurzburg ones. But yeah, some men (evidence suggests many were likely queer or other non-conforming men) were definitely victims too, tho not the bulk of them.
Bastiroid
Oh I know the Würzburg trials, I grew up in the region. They were really different to the trials in the US. But also there a lot of men died, especially in the later stages. Just like in Salem and other witch trials, what started as a witch hunt became an easy way to get rid of dissidents and other unwanted individuals

#24 A thought experiment - You're escaping a burning building when you happen across a crying baby and a case labelled "1,000 viable human embryos." You have time to save only one, if you hesitate, all three of your burn up. Which do you save? Anyone who answers "the case" is either lying to push an agenda, or has something fundamentally wrong in their brain, because we intuitively know that embryos are not babies.
squeegyfighter
Lol this guy taking "gotcha" "giga brain" questions from 2017 youtubers and must have never listened to the answers given by almost every pro lifer ever asked this

The sheer bloodthirst on this website. Almost as though you actually enjoy abortions. Let the amount of negative votes I get here be a testament to that.
amglasgow
I would enjoy living in a world where abortions are safe, legal, and rare.
Abortions are not about being bloodthirsty. It's about prioritizing actual people instead of potential people.
elbdms
Are these women having unconscious sex? How do you hold people accountable for their actions if you remove the consequences? As a woman of 43 who has never had an unwanted pregnancy, why can't we make this be about sex education and contraception so that we don't need to sit here debating the possibility of killing human beings?
Eldibs
Whole lot to unpack there. First of all, sex isn't a crime and pregnancy isn't a punishment. Second of all, the same people pushing to ban abortions are also the ones pushing to ban contraceptives and proper sex ed.
elbdms
I didn't call it punishment, I called it consequence. Cause, and consequence. Fuck around, find out. It is how adults lead their lives, they measure the consequences of their actions. Believe me, it is the denial of basic facts of reality that cost democrats this election. I am obviously in favor of contraceptives, as well as of providing ample funds and assistance for early childhood. This is how we do things right.
elbdms
A thousand people, or one person, is not an easy question to answer. It's the trolley problem. But given that babies are born already able to identify their mothers voice, that means not only they were awake in there as a Self, but have memories from it, so I find it absurd to not consider them people. I'm a libertarian, I think women should be allowed to kill their children in utero because it is 100% nobody's business, but we need to tell people that they are killing humans. Informed consent.
ElbowDeepInYou
An embryo is no where near comparable to a nearly finished baby, you bungalow.
elbdms
Point me to where I said that, or go debate strawmen on your own, in your head.
ElbowDeepInYou
Your entire comment in response to the context of the comment you replied to. Right there, no strawmen needed.
elbdms
I did not say that. I said that I can't tell when a embryo becomes a child and I am not willing to risk killing a child. If you know when an embryo becomes a child, please let us all know.
nemesisx00
QueenOfTheFey
They're not people. If you can freeze it solid and then defrost it and it'll grow it's not a person. If it can't survive without someone else's body doing all the work it's not a person. A fertilized egg isn't a chicken. An embryo isn't a person. And you know that. I'll by that you may consider a 8 month fetus a child, but you're not fooling anyone when you say that all embryos and fetuses are.
elbdms
I'm sorry to say this, but you seem dead sure about something that literally nobody can know. Mind you, I am not stating one thing or another. I am stating that you don't know. This doesn't sound like a solid basis for a decision as important as potentially killing a child. If you are able to categorically determine beyond reasonable doubt that an embryo at x age is not exhibiting of any cognition, then you can settle that moral dilemma for everyone in an instant. Please share.
QueenOfTheFey
It's not a child. And you're right, I'm having the audacity to trust scientists and medical professionals for my determination on what counts/functions at different stages of development.
After all, maybe skydaddy gave cognition/consciousness to the lump of cells without a functioning brain and endogenous sedation doesn't matter and all the scientists are wrong.
Even so, doesn't actually matter because women deserve AT LEAST the same autonomy we give CORPSES
elbdms
1. I am pro-choice. 2. I believe in the God of Spinoza. 3. You read like an angsty teenager. 4. Your supposedly scientific stance is nothing but a statement of faith without any hard evidence.
I am not going to waste my time on a person who deliberately mischaracterize my position, because that is evidence you are not interested in the Truth. You just want to win. For all I care you can have it. Go in peace.
Zekekisalaille
So if we manage to grow an embryo entirely in a lab, they'll be a person from the start? Or are people in a coma hooked to a machine not persons? If we find a way to cryogenize people, none of us will be a person anymore? Those sound like very weak arguments to support your point.
When does a fetus become a person, what defines something as being a person? Does everyone agrees on this definition? Does it even matter here? Would it be so terrible to see abortion as killing a person?
QueenOfTheFey
No, because they'd still BE AN EMBRYO.
Are the machines people?
Cryogenics don't freeze you sold dude.
They're only "weak" arguments because you'd ignoring reality.
QueenOfTheFey
But lets play your game and pretend embryons are people. PEOPLE DONT GET TO FORCE OTHERS TO KEEP THEM ALIVE WITH THEIR BODIES AGAINST THEIR CONSENT.
You dont get to decide someone has to share their organs with you. You cant even decide someone has to share their blood. You cant even force a CORPSE to give up it's organs. So why should women have less body autonomy THAN A CORPSE just to keep "someone" alive against their consent? Someone who can not exist without them?
Zekekisalaille
I like how this assumes that anyone not thinking like you is either a liar, or mentally ill... this is such a stupid way to make this argument. Or any argument really. Intuition isn't a valid proof of anything. Lots of people intuitively know homosexuality is wrong. Go look into utilitarianism then come back here and tell me how intuition is a good way of knowing whats right. (And if you haven't changed your mind then you're either lying to push an agenda, or have smth wrong with your brain)
Zekekisalaille
Go look into the Transplant surgeon thought experiment specifically, and the discussions that exist around it.
nemesisx00
Alright, let's just mark you down under "baby agnostic" then, I guess.
Eldibs
So you would let a live baby burn up in a fire, got it.
Zekekisalaille
I might, depending on circumstances. Me, this baby and those embryo's are all that's left of humanity, and I know I have the technology to grow those embryos into human beings? I save the embryos (assuming we're trying to ensure the continuation of the human race).
What if instead of a fire the threat was a gas that kills painlessely and the kid was unaware of it? Part of the thought experiment put us not only in front of the death of a child, but of their suffering, which adds a layer to it.
Zekekisalaille
Also, what I would do doesn't matter, the argument here is presented in a terrible way, and is only helping the guy feel better about himself. His reasonning boils down to "I would to X, therefore everyone would do X, therefore anyone who claims the wouldn't do X are either liars or mentally ill". Does that sound like a good way of thinking to you?
Eldibs
You're trying to change the parameters of the thought experiment to avoid admitting to yourself that a live baby is more important than an embryo and therefore they aren't equivalent. You either let the baby burn, the case of embryos burn, or all three of you burn. That's it, there are no more layers or parameters for you to "third-option" your way out of it. Choose one.
VolcanoHerder
Homosexuality isn't wrong pal
Zekekisalaille
I didn't say it was, just that for some people, it is, and for those people their intuition is enough justification.
elbdms
dashers
I started reading this comment and was surprised at the down votes because yes, the other argument is terribly formed and then I continued read your comment and oh, well, that kinda went of the rails somewhat didn't it.
Zekekisalaille
It didn't went off the rail, it was misunderstood, but maybe that's on me for the way I wrote it. I should have known it needed quotation marks around "know" to prevent people from assuming I was sharing this opinion, it might have helped. But I'm sort of done with trying to cater to people who assume stuff rather than properly reading what's written.
QueenOfTheFey
Homosexuality isn't wrong and it exists in almost every mammal/lizard/bird. It's not your intuition telling you it's wrong, its your internalized biases.
And yeah, everyone knows that a fertilized egg isn't a chicken and an embryo isn't a person. Because people aren't quite that stupid. And they've known for at least 5 THOUSAND YEARS.
elbdms
Way to miss the point. His very argument is that homosexuality is not wrong because a million people may think so. Right or wrong are independent from what people think.
Zekekisalaille
I'm not saying homosexuality is wrong, but some people do based only on their intuition.
Tell me, how do you differentiate intuition from internalized biases? Especially if you never look any further than "but muh intuition is right".
When does an embryo turn into a person? What's the definition of a person? An embryo is a potential, as is a child, as is a person, as is everything. I envy people like you who never look much further than their first impression, for whom the world is simple.
Zekekisalaille
And for the record, I'm pro choice
elbdms
Same. What I don't buy into is this cult mentality to never question the party narrative. I left church because they didn't let me think, and now this band of radical ideologues tries to do the same. I am after the Truth and the only tool I have to get there is logic. No tantrum throwing grown ass adult will stand in my way.
QueenOfTheFey
I fundamentally disagree. No ones doing it based on intuition. Children do not think homosexuality is wrong, 99% of pre colonial cultures didn't think it was wrong. It's 1000% a learned belief.
Do you want the science or do you want to pretend that batter is cake?
And you don't need to insult me dude. If you don't wanna have a conversation in good faith then you're welcome to take off.
Zekekisalaille
A chess' grandmaster intuition for the game is based on hundreds of hours of study, we still call that intuition. Intuition doesn't mean the raw truth of nature that was implented in our brains at birth.
Scientist can give you facts about life, and can create definitions of phenomenon based on those facts, and your free to use them. But those definition are arbitrary. Does an embryo become a person at conception? When the heart start beating? At birth?
elbdms
This was this point. The box of embryosexercise made an appeal to intuition, and he used the homosexuality example to disprove it. Therefore you can say that this notion that embryos are not human is a learned belief. Do you get it?
