So simple to explain what an NFT is. It's a receipt, that you pay for, for something you don't own. That's literally all it is.
CrisprCAS
NFTs are an intelligence test.
imyourrealdad
The less you know about them, the smarter you are.
AustraliaTellsItHowItIs
Anyone who was mad that there was a black woman in star wars can go fuck themselves. I'm mad because the writing and story was sub par.

Has there been a live-action Disney adaptation that hasn't been terrible?
I sat back and thought for a minute then had to google the full list of them. I would argue that Beauty and the Beast was good.
What annoys me is that anyone who complains about a show is branded as "racist" or "misogynistic" because there's diverse casting. Companies
like Disney use this as a shield for low quality writing. My favourite example of a perfect show that is diverse is Arcane. I adored it!
JEMbalaya
I'm sorry, no body is mad there's vblack woman in star wars. Distraction tactic to distract from their stinking pile of poop writing

It’s only accurate if you have no clue about NFTs. There are so many artists and women and all kinds of people making and collecting them.

Lando was black in the original star wars, why would anyone be mad if there are people of color in the newer ones?
Someshithead241
They weren't. Well, I'm sure a tiny minority were. But this is a simple thing of people intentionally misrepresenting why people dislike
Newer movies and lumping them in with the minority, to disregard legitimate criticism. Its why they push and promote these
'Controversial' aspects so much, so they can fall back on them and use these poor actors as a shield for their shitty product.
TheSpaceCroissant
I'd actually appreciate a legit answer, I've got no idea what it is and came across it several times.
You won’t get a legit answer here. Imgur super biased against NFTs and crypto.

I can sell you a paper that says you own the Brooklyn bridge. You don’t own the bridge. You just own a piece of paper that says you own it.

Apologies for wordiness, but I wanted to try for an actual thorough answer without extraneous tech babble.

You can make a certificate for any piece of data and make it so ownership of the certificate is as hard to forge as bitcoin
heroesblood
And it also lets people be huge asshole art thieves because they just claim ownership of whatever they want, like dogs pissing on things.
Special note: that certificate does genuinely say you own it, but it doesn’t have any meaningful legal value or weight.
You then convince people who can't tell the difference between a certificate and something that actually has value and sell them it
themadprofessor
Also as useful as a marriage license. Sure, they are technically YOUR spouse, but nothing is stopping them from having sex with others.
Miyamotofan
I'll sell you a receipt for this painting. Not the painting itself, so you can't get a return. But you can have the receipt. Yes that's all
RummageSaleBubbler
Sellable /link/ to a digital image. You buy the link (and millions new links can made). You don't buy the image, which itself may disappear.

It's a receipt that's hard to fake.

An entry in a database which is copied across a network of hundreds of thousands of computers, sold by scammers who claim it is a miraculous
new technology to fool people into putting more money into the cryptocoin system so that rich people who built enormous mining rigs
finally have the ability to cash out.
KuldFyt
It's basically attaching the bill of goods scam (selling someone a record of the existence of an item as if you were selling the actual 1/
item) attached to blockchain so the document is secure. It doesn't matter how secure the document is, since the seller is not actually 2/
/3 transferring (and may not even have) ownership of the actual item. It's extra stupid, because the item is usually a .jpeg
Kavrae
Seems to me like a proof of concept for a cool piece of tech that went sideways and people weirdly latched onto it.

You're not wrong. NFT's were designed w/ good intent at a programing jam type thing. Too bad scummy people took it as is and ran with that.

As opposed to the normal art market? I thought a classic tax dodge was to buy art, have it appraised for a huge amount, donate it and then
AntiProtonBoy
And nail salons, and laundromats….
claim that donation on your tax.
yep, it drives me up the wall. Even here in Aus it is so much easier to reduce tax on investments. You can't do shit regarding wages.
oaque
fun fact - you can time the NFT boom with legislation that made it harder to launder money thru art! weird! must be a coincidence...
ShadusMacAoidh
No, you're missing a vital step... which is to own the 501c you donate it to, have the 501c store it on your wall, and charge the 501c a
monthly storage fee. You get to claim the donation, AND keep the art, AND siphon any legitimate money out of the charity!
Kyman201
I don't know why you're phrasing that like it absolves NFTs of being a scam. Another scam existing doesn't cancel one scam out.
badatediting
You use one scam to enhance the other

inb4 downvoted to hell; but NFTs in crypto games will be very good for consumers. OWNING what YOU BUY (in games) gives more power to your $$
If you believe NFTs in games will be good, you've never done development and should stop acting like you know what you're talking about.
Of course that's entirely doable without NFTs and all their cons so
GeForcen
My little digital man already owned it when he found it/earned it/bought it using in game imaginary money. Real money is not needed to own.
Filanwizard
How does that help a thing, big fucking deal you own a gun skin. That goes away the day support for that game closes
Yes: a pro and a clear con, you own the skin & can sell it. Youre banking the game doesnt go under by buying the product in the 1st place.
No none of this shit will be portable, those who think it will be do not know how game dev works.
portable? not sure what you mean, can you clarify? Theres a metaverse (MMO meets social media) called the Sandbox i recommend checking out
There is a belief from the CryptoBros that NFT items in games would be able to follow you game to game, regardless of dev or publisher.
So say if you owned an NFT skin in game A they think it should come with them to Game B
