Someone hit the Life Alert button!

Knees are the dumbest joint that nature evolved. I know because I have two stupids ones.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm in the low seventies, trying to practice a few times per week without using furniture. Hope this will help.

1 year ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Do strength training. My grandpa did it into his 90s and regularly outpaced people 20 years younger than him.

I read somewhere a long time ago that getting up off the floor without using your hands is a sign of… health or youthfulness or something? Ever since I’ve been conscious of not using my hands. Didn’t say anything about making horrible groaning noises and then bragging about it though…

The secret is 1. Only being in my forties and 2. Inertia and counterbalance.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A little weekly exercise can prevent this geriatric body disconnect. I have two aunts in their mid-90's who would shame these out of shape reptiles.

I have, more than once, in the last few years, wondered if I'd have to call someone to help me stand back up. Always carry your cell phone.

1 year ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

ALWAYS! Especially bathroom and toilet.

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Oh how exciting. The journey of getting older. My knees hurt just watching this

1 year ago | Likes 109 Dislikes 1

You still have knees?

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

For now...

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I gotta start stretching more.

1 year ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

In my 50s, just recently started a routine of lifting weights and stretching and doing more cardio. It's definitely worth it, but the first few workouts after being sedentary are rough. Start as soon as you can.

This

I feel their pain

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What are they lacking? Balance? Strength? Pain?

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

i am in this picture.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm in this picture ,and I am not happy.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

To be fair, getting up off the ground is way better than being put down under the ground.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Don't laugh, kiddies, your turn is coming.......

1 year ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 3

Absolutely laugh. They are

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

If they are lucky enough

1 year ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

I learned I was in this group when I sat on the floor to wrap Christmas presents, and then had to crawl to the couch to pull myself up.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

As they are now you soon will be.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Whence.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is why I lift weights. Seriously, this is literally why.

1 year ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

Exactly. It's not rocket scientist. Any doctor will tell you you need to stay active and strength training is the pinnacle.

1 year ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I agree with this, but sometimes a life or hard labor just catches up with you. Exercise helps but if you get arthritis in your back and other joints? Well, you just hurt. All the time. For the rest of your life.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Definitely Afrikaans. Love it

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ah shit, that's how I get out of bed and I'm in my 30s

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Wow. Called out first thing in the morning. As soon as I've had my blood pressure medicine you're going to get such a talking to!

1 year ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

My FIL is 69 and he can go from full sit on the floor with legs cross to standing in one move. He is just a very active guy, does tons of gardening, isn't over weight and plays 18 holes of golf once a week.

1 year ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I'm in this picture and I'm offended

1 year ago | Likes 62 Dislikes 0

I'm still a way out from this picture. But I started to feel it a little bit (mostly my back first, and some knees popping). It hit me I better get ahead of what I can and have been doing daily conditioning for all those joints I want to keep.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I've served senior groups many times. I'll gladly help you with any mobility issues. Just stop asking for unlimited coffee! Age only gets so many passes

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

How else are we supposed to stay awake after lunch? Did I say we? I meant they... how are THEY supposed to stay awake?

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

One of my favorite jokes too is the Reuben is an old man sandwich. Guy over 55, I'll motherfucking put money on him ordering a Reuben, it's not even a contest, easy money

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm not a big reuben fan myself BUT there was this place that had a turkey reuben slider on a very tame rye bread that I was a big fan of from time to time. Roast beef hot shots are a senior trap also - soft on soft on soft - exactly what their teeth desire lol.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Turkey Reuben is called a Rachel just FYI old timer. I love roast beef sandwiches myself.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ha, jokes on you. I'm not (does math real quick) over 55 and I love Reubens.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Drop it low.

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I was invited to an event recently. Was told to "bring a blanket, we'll be sitting on the floor". Did not go.

1 year ago | Likes 98 Dislikes 0

"are chairs not allowed?" I have a folding chair.

1 year ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Yeah, that's an immediate pass.

1 year ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

A pity it would have been a great opportunity to flex your wearable chair.

1 year ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

Chairable

I believed that once, yet here I am. Damn it.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Only if they are lucky.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

41, can confirm

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nah, climate change/raiders/war will kill me long before I get old.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Use it or lose it. Or, more honestly, use it and lose it more slowly. Age will come for you all. At 45 the warranty on your body parts starts wearing out. Living this long is obscene in the eyes of god and we are punished for our hubris.

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Nah, planet will grow hot enough to kill us off before that.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hah, I'm a millennial, I'm either going to die of starvation, exposure, medical ailment, climate, or the resource wars LONG before im 90.

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I had that same attitude growing up, I thought I'd be dead or in jail before I ever had to think about retiring. As a result I have done nothing to prepare myself for the old age that I'm rapidly sliding into. Not that you're asking but my advice would be to plan for the contingency that you might live to ninety.

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Kinda looks like my 37 yo ass. Getting off the couch. At 65, just strap me to a 2 wheeler like Hannibal Lecter.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They seem to be laughing at themselves

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

35male and I ain't doing much laufen.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

F you man, it's happening already and I'm nowhere near this advanced in age.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's already starting! D:

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This also happens WAY earlier than most of the things you might think of. Go sit on the floor for a little while and see what getting up is like. Might already not be as trivial as you think it will be.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Everyone gets old sure, but how many of these people proactively do strength and mobility training 3x a week to stay healthy and protect against this? It's not magic it's basic health science. I've seen people in their 90s, older than the people here, move much much better because they did basic training as doctors advise. I train now and plan to do it forever so I don't become frail and weak one moment sooner than is biologically inevitable.

"Will" ???

You mean "is"......

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Or I could turn out like my moms boyfriend who bikes 60km every Sunday, rain or shine. He's in his mid 70s.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you’re lucky enough.

1 year ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 0

In some cases, its the reality while youre 20 yrs old.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

EXACTLY what I was going to say!!!

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

It already has. I'm 58 and I've had a fake hip since I was 53. Got ran over by a car. Makes you feel really old.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"As you are now, so once was I. As I am now, so you will be.” A common old tombstone epitaph.

1 year ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Stranger stop, as you pass by
As you are now, so once was I
Where I am now, you will be
So be prepared to follow me

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That wa actually the exact quote I had in mind, but couldn’t find it.!
