You made me feel like I want to have a period now. You work in advertising? I'm a guy.
chittychittybangbanglovesustoo
This...this is awesome!!!! Probably the weirdest thing I've wanted to go to the front page, well done OP!
IAlwaysUpvoteGhostbusters
Well I'm sold.
sushi6
Got mine 2 years ago. Never going back to pads. No more looking like my crotch slaughtered an animal. No more marinating myself in blood.
kdizzzzy
Omg that was so vagina and menstruation informative. Thank you!
LiteralGirl
So menstruation. Much vagina.
crazyfishlady
I feel odd thanking you for sharing this, but you answered a lot of questions I've had about these. So...Thanks!
bthec
You ARE very good at drawing toilets and vaginas! Bravo!
GrabEmByTheEmbassy
Several women I've dated and others that are friends swear by it. Will never go back. Also better for the planet. You go, ladies.
ImprovedLoungewear
Thank you for not illustrating in color. +1
GummyVenusDeMilo
OP this post has potential to change my life. Tampons/pads are the bane of my existence. I will be trying this method ASAP thanks to you!
xcelita
I've been using it for a year and have to wear a panty liner with it. A few drops ALWAYS leak out.
fondalashay
Tips from almost a decade of use: try different folds. Tulip fold is my fav:
also aim it toward your buttbone
balthcat
All my friends are glad they switched. (Some of my friends have had to figure out the "knack" to getting it positioned just right.)
InternetHappenedThatsWHY
just like when one first learned how to insert the tampon or the placement of the pad. It just takes getting used to : )
Koffy130
They last up to 10 years, but it's be best to buy one every 3-5 years. :) They. Are. AMAZING.
purpleseadragons
I love my Diva Cup, plus you'll save TONS of money on tampons/pads bc you won't buy them anymore (except for small pads on heavy days)
dontyoudaretouchmybutt
There is a learning curve to getting it to sit properly, just look up insertion methods, find the one that works for you!
plan138
I love mine but dont use if you have an IUD. It pulled mine out and I had to get on the pill.
fondalashay
I did that too! My gyno said it would be safe.. but it was not. Maybe for some people, but seems I did not break the deal enough
sparkymcboomboom
I have one too, but you just have to make sure you release the suction by flattening the cup while it's inside before you pull it out.
Selendrii
Yeah, if you are careful with the suction, they work very well with IUDs.
fondalashay
maybe I should try again.. think sometimes I was just to quick with removal.. and it lead to the IUD coming out
Selendrii
TBH, I was scared the first time I tried them together, but I had been using the cup before I got the IUD, so I was used to its quirks.
plan138
Thats pretty risky. You could dislodged it and not know. BAM preggo
sparkymcboomboom
It's possible, but the suction poses more risk than manual dislodging. Once the suction is gone, it's basically like removing a tampon(1/2)
sparkymcboomboom
or any other foreign object from the vagina, since the IUD sits beyond the cervix. Just don't tug the IUD strings hard; that would HURT(2/2)
passerdomesticus
YES! Thank you for doing this. I think menstrual cups are period GOSPEL, but people get weirded out when I try to period proselytize.
KatfaceMrow
I've had my diva cup for a decade and only just replaced it due to discoloration. I suggest after each cycle you soak it.
NehiyawBabeDroid
Soak it just with the Diva Wash?
Enderlove56
I usually soak mine in a 1:2 solution of hydrogen peroxide and water overnight when I'm done.
blueberrycupcakes
you should look into other cups. I have tried two others so far and I like them better
KatimusPrimeTV
Fun tip! For discoloration, you can put it in a boiling pot of water&baking soda. It takes it out well! I do that after each cycle for mine.
Mokoni
Actually in their how to take care of it thing they suggest to boil it in water for like 10min for discoloration.
LadyNoHeart
If you soak it in peroxide for 5 mins., you can rub off the discoloration with a qtip or towel. You have to rub fairly hard. Mine looks new
PoopyFaceMcBadPants
Soak it in equal parts hydrogen peroxide and water. Looks like new.
FemgineerDeltaConagher
Diva Cup brand specifically says not to use peroxide in their FAQ.
joshisacreaturedanananananananananana
I boil mine in a pot of water for 10 minutes after a cycle, it usually takes most of the discolouration out
lostlittlesister
What do you soak it in?
plan138
I soak mine in hydrogen peroxide. Or you can boil it.
WhereLBJsNutsHang
I haven't had a period in 5 years and anymore they freak me the fuck out.
Nakagator
...Mirena?
WhereLBJsNutsHang
YES! So happy these things exist.
Nakagator
IUDs are the best thing.
WhereLBJsNutsHang
I swear it. I just have to convince my bf that a vasectomy isn't that bad. At least as bad as tubal ligation for me.
annzi
Question! What about pooping? I know this sounds weird, but I rarely wore tampons because I was afraid of partially squeezing it out.
IDLToN
Personally, I prefer to take mine out, just because it's come close to coming out (or felt like it) before, but its never come out. You ...
IDLToN
Can keep it in if you want, and I'm sure that the different brands of cups and your body will work differently. I have a lunette.
22Below
I've never encountered a problem while pooping, the seal should prevent it from coming out. It sometimes does shift a little though
justmycuriosity
Some people has said that cup can make peeing and pooping hard. Then cup is placed wrong, too low or have made vacuum inside vagina 1/2
justmycuriosity
yeah it can make vacuum suction, but holes in cup will usually prevent this. But it can happen. Just take cup off and place it back properly
kanihaznaiph
"Rinse it in the sink" But what if you're in a "stall" bathroom? The concept of getting up, even when its a private bathroom seems daunting.
sushifire
So you've just gotten one? Or do they only come 1 to a package??
straightcreepen
Yes, just one you simply rinse and reinsert, I have had mine since 2013. More through cleaning at the beginning and end of the cycle though
Helimech
I've been using them since 2005 and I'm only on my second one
fondalashay
I have just got my second one after 8 years. I have a friend who as 2 just to keep a backup in her purse. Since it is non-toxic you can 1/2
fondalashay
2/2 put it in early and not worry about TSS. I have been traveling and put it in a good 24 hours early before so I didnt have to mid flight
sushifire
Yeah, I was wondering about that too (TSS). That's nice you can put it in early...Good stuff!
MycurlyhairsaysIcantgoouttoday
I have a disease that causes my labia skin to tear....does it hurt actually inserting it or is the cup soft enough?
Iwanttowakeup
The cup is soft but in your case i would maybe use a little lube to help it glide. The extra moisture isn't going to make it leak
MycurlyhairsaysIcantgoouttoday
Sorry, one more.. is it hard to put in? I have the Nuvaring and you have to squish it kinda like the cup. I can't seem to 1/2
MycurlyhairsaysIcantgoouttoday
2/2 easily squish things into small holes. Haha. It always slips out of my fingers a few times before I get it.
schubackk
I struggle to insert and remove tampons, I just don't see how this would work :/
minizeries
Tampons 'rub' because they're dry fabric, but the silicone (esp. wet as noted) slides more comfortably. It's worth a try. :)
fondalashay
I did too! Give it a try - wet it first and try all the folds until you get one that works. Try it before your period to avoid a mess :)
MissyNeko
It has a learning curve to figure out how to work it, but it really is a lot nicer than pads or tampons.
Europeancitizen
What about different brands?
IsuckAsthis
Main ones are Me Lune (mine) Lunette (tried too big) Diva Cup and Moon cup, google each and decide what sounds best for you.
fondalashay
many choices
(not full ist)
typingtreemonkey
I found mine too firm and I couldn't use it comfortably. Are there softer silicone ones? I might just go sea sponge route...
FemgineerDeltaConagher
Mine feels too 'solid' at the beginning of my period, but I just run some pretty hot water on/in it for a bit to make it a bit more supple.
coffinnail
Lunette cup! Love it, I find it softer than the diva.. and they come in more varying sizes
msierra
I use the Moon Cup and it works great, but I'm thinking of trying to Diva Cup after this
IsuckAsthis
Me Luna is the squishiest I have found.
fondalashay
there are many brands...
grumpatsurrisrex
Question: I'm a low-flow, hard cramping gal. Do you find any drawbacks using the diva cup on lighter days?
InternetHappenedThatsWHY
I prefer using it on the lowflow-days actually, since you can keep it in longer than a tampon or using a uncomfortable pad.
plan138
Not really. If Im at the end or spotting, I just stick it in and forget about it until night time. Been using it for 3 yrs now.
grumpatsurrisrex
Thanks!
HeyLookABunny
What are they like to put in? I sometimes have issues with thicker tampons, and also tampons make my cramps worse and stomach hurt.Do these?
IsuckAsthis
I'm tiny and recommend the Me Luna brand, had a Lunette and it was too big but this one is a hell of a lot smaller and works perfect.
HeaveninaWildFlower
I always had lots of pain with tampons but not with a mooncup. I feel nothing and have super heavy flow. I love mine and won't go back now!
RealLifePusheen
They can be a bit fiddly but you'll find a way that works for you. Because of the shape of it, I find mine reduces my cramps!
TimeLordDanceParty
I had really bad pain when I first started using my lunette (lovely brand!) and was dismayed. Turned out pushing on it to adjust (1/2)
TimeLordDanceParty
so it's on an angle fixed it. So with the opening around my cervix but the cup angled towards my butthole. Only occasionally have to do this
roguechikken
Diva cup was too big for me and caused some pain sometimes. Got the mooncup instead and have had no issues since
Chaosdawn
I use Mooncup and the only time I get a little cramping is when my period's really heavy and the cup is full. Empty it, cramps go away.
ellcrys
I've been using mine for 5 years now and usually have bad cramps, and it doesn't cause me any additional pain.
SomeGeographer
It feels uncomfortable if I don't put it in properly(how a tampon feels if not in fully). Took me a full cycle to finally figure it out.
twentysomething
Tampons made my vag horribly sore. I hated it...by day 2 putting them in was miserable. The cup changed my life! No more soreness!
Blaised
There's lots of different folds you can do to get it in easier. I've also had issues with tampons, so I use the "push down" method
pixelatomica
Lunette sells some cup wash that works really nicely for my cup! I'd imagine it'd work ok for diva cups too.
Mokoni
They also make a "Diva Wash" made for washing the cup [my personal preference].
pixelatomica
I'll have to check that one out sometime. Either one is a good investment when it comes to keeping ya cup as clean as possible!
coffinnail
Yah! I like lunette cause you can get coloured ones... =)
pixelatomica
Me too! I got a yellow one and it makes me oddly happy
justmycuriosity
You can get discoloration away using rubbing alcohol or just alcohol. I use rubbing alcohol. Diva cup is made medical silicone so it is fine
istanna
Thanks for the tip. Will definitely try it!
FemgineerDeltaConagher
I admit to never understanding the concern with the discoloration. Like... who am I making my period cup pretty for? Lol.
justmycuriosity
That discoloration is remains of blood cells, cells from vagina wall, iron etc which are boiled to stick on cup.
lovesholly
A soak in hydrogen peroxide took mine right back to the original cloudy
justmycuriosity
I use Lunette and they did say 3% hydrogen peroxide will be fine. http://menstrual-cups.livejournal.com/2546034.html
FemgineerDeltaConagher
The FAQ specifically says not to use peroxide, at least for the Diva Cup.
lovesholly
Omg! Serves me right for throwing it out... I wonder why tho.
FemgineerDeltaConagher
Might just make it degrade faster or it could be to sell their own cleaner. Hard to tell.
HotMagentaDuckFace
So, as an avid Diva Cupper, are there any down sides we should know about it?
DrCrumplebottom
Give it 2-3 cycles. Look into other ways of folding it to insert, the C-fold doesn't work for me. trim the stem but a little at a time.
twentysomething
It's hard to figure out how to put it in if you are used to tampons because it goes in horizontally instead of vertically.
Setsylarper
...What the fuck you on about? It's a cup. It's vertical. How..Just...What?
ginangu
I've tried these, but since my obgyn said my vagina is consider short I always end up feeling them and it becomes uncomfortable.
fondalashay
I too am short. there are many brands to choose from:
(not full ist) try another one that is shorter.
pupwink
I have a, tipped uterus, and it's been really uncomfortable for me, no matter how many times I re-inserted. Can't do tampons, either.
icommentingifs
There are itty bitty holes around the ridge. If you have a particularly "sheddy" type of lining, the larger the holes, the better. (1/2)
icommentingifs
Otherwise, you could be prone to leaks if the suction is disrupted because of stuff in the way (2/2)
DiedAndHauntingImgur
I'm learning so much.
Momof2needsabreak
You have to remember to twist it once you insert it or else it doesn't get a good seal. I didnt once and it leaked, other than that, perfect
thisisjustmytemporaryusername
I can't twist mine
passerdomesticus
There is definitely a learning curve to getting it in without feeling it afterward.
straightcreepen
I had to trim a bit of the stem part and then after the first period got the hang of it.
GoldieRocks36
question as a potential diva cupper, what about sports? I'm really active so would it withstand swimming, biking, running etc?
minizeries
The first time I used it, I -forgot- I was on my period, even during exercise (yoga and biking).
FemgineerDeltaConagher
Yes! I swim with it in and bike. I'm not much of a runner cause I jiggle unpleasantly (extra skin) but long distance walking is good.
coffinnail
Totally fine!! I've done everything but contact sports (though I have gone in a mosh pit!) with it in... If you are nervous the first 1/2
coffinnail
time, use a panty liner with it! Though I do recommend maybe laying off 4 the first cycle you use it 4, just till you have the hang of it.
thisisjustmytemporaryusername
Don't cut the little tip off until you're sure it's in as far as it can be, you end up thinking you have to go to the ER to get it removed.
canadianbunnyeh
what?
thisisjustmytemporaryusername
I just didn't relax enough and I accidentally trimmed the stem too short. I bought another and didn't need to trim at all.
twentysomething
Are you supposed to cut it off? I left mine on.. Helps me remove it.
FemgineerDeltaConagher
I cut mine off because with it on, it wasn't 'invisible' and was actually uncomfortable. Now I just get paranoid I forgot to put it in.
ehhhTINA
I have heavy, short cycles and sometimes the cup will fill up completely in under 12 hours for me.
fauxypants
Yeah, me too. Was thinking op oesn't really have any heavy days..
straightcreepen
I have heavy cycles that start out as a dribble, then go crazy one day, then dribble again- super annoying.
plan138
Yea Ive had to wear a pad with it sometimes when I'll be away from home for while. Only downside is you cant empty in public.
coffinnail
Well... you can... it's just not as nice. I tend to look for single stall bathrooms - where there's a sink next to the toilet
fondalashay
Yeah you can :) Just put it back in after wiping it with toilet paper. I do that like 90% of the time
plan138
Your period must be mostly light then. When I have to empty it 4x a day it gets pretty messy sometimes.
xcelita
Been using it for a year and have to wear panty liners. It ALWAYS leaks. At insertion, there's blood between the cup and vag wall that leaks
twentysomething
Some people have to try different brands before they find one that works for them.
Helimech
Maybe you need to buy the larger size? Or it could be residue that was already below the cup when you put it in.
fondalashay
I had this in the beginning.I found I wasnt wearing it high enough. kegel style squeezing helps get it in place when you cant push up enough
doesanyoneevenreadthese
You may be using the wrong size then
FemgineerDeltaConagher
Do you twist it around after placing it? I had one leak near the beginning because I ignored that step often.
ohdeepthought
Question can you sleep with it or does it leak?
FemgineerDeltaConagher
I'm a restless sleeper and toss and turn and have a heavy flow, this is Beautiful for me at night, no leaks, haven't bought pads in a year.
coffinnail
Just empty before bed and first thing in the morning. If you have a heavy cycle it may fill up, but it won't leak from you laying down
ohdeepthought
Good to know
fondalashay
I have slept in mine for close to 8 years now. now worries unless it is a very heavy cycle - then it might slightly leak (like a dribble)
ohdeepthought
Thanks
fondalashay
It can conflict with IUDs. My gyno said it was ok, and I have friends it worked fine with - but for me I managed to pull the IUD out partly
fondalashay
Also most people dont know that if you 'aim' it toward you buttbone it will go in easier and seal better/ pop open easier :)
fishfingersandcustard
Follow up question: How did the partial pull out happen? Not to get graphic, but was the seal on the cup too tight? Orrr...?
fondalashay
I either managed to catch the strings - which were left too long. Or I did not release the suction many times in a row. :/
elderflowermouse
You're supposed to pinch the cup to pull it out, and I've found that the strings on my IUD are longer during my period, so if you pinch 1/2
LeftCollectionBlueBird
Out of curiosity.. Where can you put it when you're not on your period?
blueberrycupcakes
I keep in in the underwear drawer
slitherlitter
1) My diva cup came with a little fabric baggy and I keep it in the medicine cabinet. I boil the cup before and after every period so it's
balthcat
My friends (3) shared an apartment and two used to have to scold the other for forgetting hers on the side of the sink after she washed it.
PinkAmazonQueen
Lol
FemgineerDeltaConagher
I put mine in the little cloth baggie it came with and put it in the same place I used to put my pads/tampons.
slitherlitter
2) not really important that it's kept in a super sterile environment in between.
blaergh
You could store it where ever you feel most comfortable. Some women prefer to keep it ib their purse. I keep it the bathroom drawer.
TimeLordDanceParty
After rinsing in cold water and doing a quick sterilise (boiling water/tablets) I keep it in a zip up pouch in my handbag.
Rumpsonumpso
you cant sterilise with boiling water..
TimeLordDanceParty
Wrong. You boil it on the stove and it's common practice for silicone dildos and baby feeding gear. Just needs long enough.
Rumpsonumpso
Ohh.. I thought you can only sterilise with special tools, while cooking is disinfection. Maybe I was wrong
blueberrycupcakes
*dry
blueberrycupcakes
May I recommend keeping it in its original pouch where it will be try
TimeLordDanceParty
I don't understand? Original pouch is drawstring, zip up is better for storage. You don't put it away wet.
blueberrycupcakes
If it's an enclosed container like a zip bag, then it will be easier for bacteria to thrive as opposed to its own pouch
angelicyokai
Might have been the best $25 I've ever spent. No more leaks, dry vag or frequent changes. Can hike for hours and not worry about leaking.
notmarvin
Dry vag is the worst! Applicators are sandpaper.
bearsandbeers
YAASSSS. DIVA CUPS. ALL DAY. ERY DAY.
Iamthepudding
Also worth it for the crazy-awesome sucking sound when you pull it out of your vag.
thisisjustmytemporaryusername
I prefer the MoonCup. It's basically the same, just a slightly different shape.
doublekross
Me too! Moon Cup FTW!
passerdomesticus
I love my Fleur Cup! But I wish there was a way to try a bunch out before deciding which to buy. I wasn't a fan of he Diva.
largehadroncollisions
I've got the mooncup but am considering an alternative brand since even the small one is too big to be comfortable inside my vagina :(
thisisjustmytemporaryusername
I thought that too, turns out I didn't have it up high enough. How many times have you tired to use it?
largehadroncollisions
Probably at least 10! Tried it in many different positions but I don't think it's the one for me
thisisjustmytemporaryusername
Entirely possible. Good luck!!!
shanabanana
There's a girl on youtube who does in depth reviews of all kinds of menstrual cups, I think her channel is called precious star pads. <3 it.
bothrium
Is there much difference between mooncup & divacup?
roguechikken
I switched to mooncup because the diva cup was too big.. It was uncomfortable and would leak. Mooncup works way better (for me)
amyrose
Too long or too wide? I got the smallest Diva and I was put it in fine but it was still nearly sticking out the buttom.
roguechikken
Yep too long
fondalashay
shapes and colors
doodlez
Keeper, wtf.
bothrium
Thanks!!
tatischief
Are there any significant differences between Diva, moon and fleur? Because this post got me really thinking. Oh can you swim with it?
ominousdusk
I believe the diva is the longest cup so if you have a short vagina it may not fit, some women have to turn it Inside out
passerdomesticus
I liked the material of the Fleur Cup better than Diva, softer and smoother, more pliable. Goes in easier and I feel it less. Plus it's blue
passerdomesticus
I'm not sure how significant the differences are, but they are there. Shape, material, and the stem on some is just a ball or a ring. 1/
22Below
I can't help you with the differences as I've only used a moon cup, but I can tell you that I swim with one all the time with no problems
Lacraz
I was actually thinking about switching to the diva cup, now I'm sold
purpleseadragons
DO IT! You won't regret it!
IsuckAsthis
There is a learning curve but shick with it and they will change your life, I recommend either lunette or me luna (smaller)
hotcakepie
Love my diva cup. It's good for the environment and your body. Tip - break the seal by pushing the top in a bit for easier removal.
LadyNoHeart
You can also make it seal after putting it in and making sure your cervix is inside, push down on one side to let air out. Instant suction.
greyandstripes
I've wanted one, but what about use with an IUD?
fondalashay
I have used it for 8 years. had 2 IUDs which the gyno said could be used with the cup. I managed to pull the strings out with the cup 1/2
fondalashay
2/2 once and the second time had them trimmed and the suction slightly dislodged it. gyno said that is rare though.
sparkymcboomboom
I have one too; you just have to make sure you first release the suction by flattening the cup while it's inside before you pull it out.
greyandstripes
Awesome, thank you!
TheProofIsInDePudding
It took me 4 tries to get it in the first time. I feel like it's too big! Haven't tried again since. Taking it out took me a panicking 5min
umuziki
Same! I think I am just really small. Even reg tampons are too big. :(
wowohmygodwow
I looove my diva cup and have converted several people who also love it now. Fuck tampons
gunitbabymoneyspot
Yessss. Diva cup posts are like the only times I comment/post on imgur because I'm so in love with them.
zatgal
Or rather, stop fucking tampons. He he. He. I'll go back to my corner.
MasonDixie
Thank you for that. I've been contemplating the cup for a long time, for the exact reasons that you illustrated
Blaised
You won't regret it. Sometimes I completely forget I'm on my period since the Diva Cup
balthcat
A know a bunch of ladies who are all about shoving cups up there.
Luvvie
I haven't tried it yet, since I have an IUD and wanna talk to a doc first.. also cost.
gunitbabymoneyspot
Best decision I ever made. My periods fly by now since I only empty it morning and night and have no concerns of leakage. My advice for 1/?
gunitbabymoneyspot
those new to it is to look online for different folding techniques (there are tons). The recommended folds that come with the cup aren't 2/?
gunitbabymoneyspot
my favourite, so trying different techniques helps to make it most comfortable for you. My fav is the fold down method! Hope you like it!
tryptophanisyummy
i feel like you've convinced me to buy a diva cup. it's also 3:40AM and i've been awake for nearly 24 hours straight so what do i know.
gunitbabymoneyspot
Do itttttt. If you don't get squirmy at the idea of a cup with some blood in it, you will love it. I will never stop recommending it!
idreamofbeer
I suggest you cut the tail off. Youll still be able to pull on the bottom to take it out and the stem won't gouge at your insides.
ACanadianPerson
Shallow vagina.
vyoletnytmayre
I actually cut the stem because it was gouging my outsides. Damn low seated uterus and cervix!
shanabanana
I went through 2 periods of cutting it shorter and shorter, still uncomfortable, until I finally cut it all the way off. So much better.
roguechikken
I second this
SomethingSomethingTraLaLa
This can be a life-saving device for women and girls in developing nations with limited health resources. Diva Cups are awesome.
CelticGirl0129
A bunch of my friends used them when I was in Peace Corps.
straightcreepen
And it helps young girls stay in school! But yes people will use disgusting materials in some developing countries and get infections :(
hoffbox
It also seems like it could cut down on waste in developed countries, too.
thepundom
And, you know, everywhere.
ashsmashers
unfortunately in many parts of the world there is a huge cultural stigma against non-married (virgin) women putting things in their vagina.
ominousdusk
I bought a dozen cups recently and donated them to my local women's shelter. They don't just help women in other countries
atlasgreen
I can't believe I never thought of this, it makes so much sense. Would also be a huge asset for homeless women.
ashipthatshipsshippingships
You know what, I don't know you, but I like you. I work with the homeless population. And I love that you immediately thought of them. Neat.
caroz
Yes! My mother and I have been talking about trying to start some sort of program to provide menstrual cups to the homeless women at (1/?)
ominousdusk
You can just buy them and donate them. That's what I did. I just gave a dozen to the women's shelter. You can buy them in bulk
caroz
Definitely an immediate option.
caroz
our local shelter - one of the shelter's greatest needs is feminine hygiene products! Imagine the difficulty of trying to deal with (2/?)
caroz
your period, let alone if it is at all irregular, without reliable access to products or even a clean bathroom. Diva cups are extremely(3/?)
caroz
cost effective and much more clean/convenient than tampons or pads, and involve less health risks (such as TSS) as well!
mijiza
A lot of military women I know use them on deployments, easier to clean out than trying to figure out what to do with a used tampon.
TakeAHolidayInSpain
http://www.ruby-cup.com/ donates one to a girl in a developing country for each cup purchased!!
nnmrktrn
Thank you, just ordered mine from here! Could have maybe gotten it somewhere cheaper, but the donating part won me over :-)
TheSuspenseiskillingme
also commenting to remember to buy from here!
mynameisbucky
Commenting on this so I can point friends here!
7thTimesTheCharm
This is awesome! Thank you! It's about time fore to replace mine, so I'm definitely buying from them.
SnoozerMcGee
I'm a guy. Why did I read the whole thing?
WoofKeeper
Cause guys who have knowledge about common things - including about things that effect the woman in their life - are more desirable.
purpleseadragons
B/C one day if you have a daughter, this will make her teen year periods way easier and less stressful and embarrasing.
dreadpiratekhan
Because it was interesting? Why wouldn't you?
mitchtothemax
Because this is something that half the population deals with and you should maybe be conscious of what they go through
SnoozerMcGee
I'm pretty sure half the population doesn't use the cup thing.
mymistake4coffins
Yes this exactly.
LadyNoHeart
Maybe you needed a silicone hat for your manhood?
dontjudgemeokay
I'm a girl and I still don't know why I read it, still not going to try it
mymistake4coffins
I don't go around asking the women in my life about their hygiene choices, but the few that have brought up the topic swear by this thing.
mymistake4coffins
I guess I'm just happy for them - that they've found something that makes more sense (for them) and is easier (for them).
BoreasTheNorthWind
So you that when girl is talking of The Cup, she might not be sport fan after all?
SnoozerMcGee
As a sports fan... what Cup are you referring to?
BoreasTheNorthWind
Any/none. I'm not a sport fan, I just sometimes hear my friends talking about watching some cup games. I prefer not to ask what they mean.
icommentingifs
I'd like to mention that you can also dump it in the SHOWER! That way once a day (when you only need to empty it twice), is easy and clean.
Momof2needsabreak
Thats what I do too. Its easier to reinsert in the shower too and I can wash my hands faster.
icommentingifs
You also get to enjoy a little personal psycho moment. It's fun.
doublekross
WARNING: don't do this if you have large clumps/clots/placenta and small drain holes on your shower cover.
Blaised
YES I do this! It's so much cleaner just to do it there in the morning before work and when I come home from work.
Eldibs
That wasn't a gif.

Eldibs
A permit? I withdraw my objection.
LeftCollectionBlueBird
So it IS all good when you're horizontal? It doesn't get messy when you sleep?
blaergh
Mine has never leaked. Sitting, lying, sports, swimming. But I also hear that some people have problems, so I gues your mileage may vary.
icommentingifs
Oh, definitely. That suction is not going to leak unless your lining shedding is thick and the little bitty holes get clogged. I recommend
icommentingifs
The moon cup for larger holes. The diva ones didn't have holes large enough for me.
twentysomething
If it leaks, you've put it in wrong. It's tricky to figure out. Took me a few cycles.
tifalif
Me too! Idk what I've been doing but it works better now that ive done it a few times I think its because im not afraid to put it in farther
Kiore
That's what I do, change it morning and night in the shower. Easy peasy!
alticaarden
I'm assuming you Sleep with them in? What's that like? And isn't that dangerous?
Kiore
Nope, they're completely non-toxic, unlike tampons. You don't feel it at all, and the seal remains no matter your position.
alticaarden
Interesting... And swimming and sports and everything?
Kiore
Yup! Though it can be tricky to learn to get the seal right, and you'll leak without it, but no different to tampons and more capacity.
tifalif
So easy! I can't get the angle right on the toilet.
icommentingifs
I always put one foot on the seat/stall wall. It always helps me.
fondalashay
try aiming it to your buttbone.. made it so much easier for me
doubleponytogo
Honest question here: doesn't it feel weird to shove it up your vagina? I use the plastic covered tampons only tuo avoid putting my 1/2
roguechikken
It takes a few tries to get it in right at first without it leaking, and IMO yeah it feels weird to put it in at first
ominousdusk
I could always feel tamponsbut I can't feel the cup. I forget I'm even on my period
doubleponytogo
finger too much up inside it (the plastic thingy pushes the tampon up). How far does it have to go?
icommentingifs
It sits a little lower than a tampon would. You only have to put your fingers up there as far as the knuckle, if not less.
ampelamati
i'm afraid cuz i have long nails :(
Nienista
I find I only use my thumb to insert it. Takes a little practice but it isn't difficult. I have nails too, and never had a problem.
thatget1
every once in a while I pinch myself taking it out, but it's more expectation of pain than actually feeling pain.
icommentingifs
Doesn't feel weird at all. You actually feel it even less than a tampon because it's soft silicone so it molds to your shape. (1/2)
icommentingifs
Now pulling it out? That always feels strange. Because you're unsuctioning. It doesn't feel bad but it feels strange (2/2)
doubleponytogo
Oh thank
doubleponytogo
... you a lot. Clicked "send" before finishing :)
fondalashay
yes! friend said she forgot to tell hubby she was using it and sacred him when they we getting ready in the morning and she shower dumped it
gizarziza
well you answered every question i had and bc of you i'm going to buy one and thank you for improving my life :)
thisisjustmytemporaryusername
Consider the mooncup
vyoletnytmayre
There's a ton of different brands. Other than slight shape variations and fancy colors. They all do the same thing.
cuzpoptartz
I can't believe I kept reading the whole thing, I also can't believe that you put that much into that information.
doihearanamen
I quit after #2. Way to hang on there.
MadamPuddifoot
"OMG I'm getting really good at drawing toilets and vaginas" hahaha I laughed out loud, for realsies.
CaptYogaPants
I kept waiting for a plot twist
Silversyx
This was the information I NEEDED. Finally.
ORGANICGUY
I think there was a post about this product. I think this is better than an amazon review, I'd hate to see the unhappy customer one.
GaneshaTheElephantGod
I'm a guy and I kept reading.
samwellsamson
And me ... I don't know why, but I now know a lot about the diva cup.
IusedtobeapervertIstillambutIusedtobetoo
I now know how to draw toilets and vaginas.
spikytortoise
Add someone who's been considering this for a long time, it's actually been a really useful post. Thanks for the time and effort!
EchinodermataWhatAWonderfulPhrase
I'm squeemish with blood, I'm not sure I could pour the blood out and stuff without fainting.
atliens27
I was convinced awhile back. The problem for me was that it could feel it in me all day. I couldn't do it.
fondalashay
Trim the stem and if that does not help try another brand.. there are like 30 different brands :)
atliens27
Let's see. 30 brands. One period each month... Plus learning curve on how to make sure that one sits right.Hmm no. I'm not going to try each
DrCrumplebottom
Did you trim the stem? the stem is much longer than it needs to be. Before I trimmed mine I could feel it but not after.
atliens27
Yes I trimmed. Still sucked.
jediprincess
feels like an ad
veltvetoctopus
Some products are so amazing you gotta evangelize.
Adapt
Congrats on being the first person I saw to say this, I can't believe more people aren't calling it out.
krauraurgg
Probably because it's reasonably interesting and has a bunch of (terrible) original artwork, making it better than half the other FP stuff.
imnotwearingunderweartoday
What bugs me is that it only talks about divacup when there are more companies. Ppl should research menstrual cups nd see whats for them.
Kiore
Good point, I don't know what research you can really do except trial and error though, for the most part..
Kiore
Would make sense, menstrual cups really are all that though.
PMmeyourshatteredhopesanddreams
Probably a duck
Lgemma
That's the vibe I'm getting too... On the other hand, I'm a female and this was weirdly informative/ helpful.
shavtetri
I just said to my husband that if this is an ad, it's genius.
PaperMatches
It also misinforms. It is not meant to suction to the cervix; it sits low. Thatcould be potentially leaky advice.
NoWisdomWithoutRegret
Everyone I know who has switched to the Diva Cup is just this enthusiastic about it. It's like they become obsessed.
vauhtihirmu
With products like these it's sometimes hard to differentiate: it could be an ad but ofc people want to tell others of helpful new things.

I am a single man and I read the whole thing. Either that was really good, I have an imgur problem, or both.
NateintheNorth
Have a gf. Man. At work, eating lunch. Huh.
Rezanon
Single man, on the toilet, midnight, with the shower awaiting me, and still read the whole damn thing.
iloveronswanson
Single man, sitting on bed at 6 am...never thought i'd be reading about diva cups at this hour.
Lanka
..I'll justify it to myself as a product research. /industrial designer
Viralregurgitator
Same here, super interesting though
sorple
Same here. It was interesting though, so props to the artist!
LordNedsHead
That was so persuasive that I was on Amazon about to one-click order it when I remembered I'm a dude
blitherypoop
I used to work in a health food store and sorta considered buying one, but I have dysmenorrhea (serious pain) and...just no.
powerpookie9000
I get really awful period pain too. Like passing out from the pain. Cup actually helped.
DrCrumplebottom
Same here. I have used the cup for a year now and I couldn't be happier with it. Best money ever spent.
TheBlackShakes
Oh shit, that's right. BRB need to find out if it's too late to cancel my order
TakeAHolidayInSpain
Just use it for nose bleeds! https://38.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m0yt44vAcB1qi5hpuo2_500.gif

I would totally get this if I had a vagina.

+1 for Robotech/Macross
notirrelevant
Didn't you read the part about it being like a "thick, short condom?" It sounds perfect for you!
KillingTheJoke1
Use it in your ass for ass diarrhea then.
TheLordLucifersBannedAccount02
But that's more than an ounce of hot chocolate spray.
KillingTheJoke1
Hmmm, the pressure may be power overwhelming
ian9outof10
Sadly, unlike menstrual blood, diarrhea comes in two or three hundred gallons.

grootaccess
As someone who suffers from lactose intolerance (and didn't figure it out immediately), this comment was flawless.
ashipthatshipsshippingships
Accurate, +1
trailerparksupervisor
I bought the post-Taco Bell cup. It is a fifty gallon drum.
KillingTheJoke1
Cool. Can it be attached to a mobility scooter?
trailerparksupervisor
Yes?
NotSinceBreakfast
I just had my uterus removed. It was a lot simpler than all this tampon/diva cup business.
ominousdusk
Eeesh I dunno hysterectomies are not without major consequences and potential complications. I think I'd rather have my period
NotSinceBreakfast
That's where the joke lies. A hysterectomy is not simpler. ;) But I did have mine removed for other reasons.
Voodoomancer
That seems... rather drastic.
helpnonamesareleft
On one hand it sounds useful, on the other hand I desperately want to have children. I'll stick to the Diva cup business.
IAmTheVictorian
Save some eggs maybe? I don't know, then you can have kids whenever you want. (not a knowledgeable person, also, I'm drunk)
helpnonamesareleft
No I mean I want to carry them. Hard to do that minus a uterus.
ominousdusk
Yeah no Removing your uterus wrecks your hormone balance. Not something you do lightly
helpnonamesareleft
I wouldn't except in medical emergency. I very very desperately want to carry my own babies and am planning on at least 4. I'll need it.
GlitterInTheDarkNearTheTannhauserGate
I wanna buy it for my gf
Caffinator
Good man
iamthemansheep
We all wanna buy it for your gf
WeHaveBeenOverThis
She will love you forever if you can convince her to try it. Seriously, these things are the bomb.
minizeries
With a menstrual cup, a lady can comfortably sleep naked even while on her period! Buy it. Save her so much money in tampons/ruined undies.
GlitterInTheDarkNearTheTannhauserGate
I am sold
eskimo56
I was already 99% sold, but THIS. IM DOING IT. IM GETTING ONE.
ominousdusk
Yep and you can fool around with hands and stuff and nothing will get messy!
balthcat
I know a bunch of ladies who are in the cup-cult.
Hugomanen
Do it, my girlfriend is very happy with hers.
thesarahpowellexperience
I suggest maybe okaying that with her first haha
GlitterInTheDarkNearTheTannhauserGate
that would ruin the bloody element of surprise though
mylifeforhire
As a female, buy it. Throw all of her tampons out the window and buy it right now.
FakeGamerGirl
It would be a waste of money if she's already using a Mirena.
daffodillas
I am just trying to imagine a guy doing this, the girl going "NOOOOOOOO MY PERIOD IS NEXT WEEK!!" and the man just throwing a diva up at her
KroniK907
Ah, but the blood IS the surprise...
GotBannedForPostingThatGifAMA
I can't believe I found this interesting. I can't believe I kept scrolling. I mean, I'm male for God's sake.
geiokami
I'm gay and I kept reading, really didn't need the "detailed" drawings
doublekross
IDK, isn't it interesting because it's a thing you don't have?
ORGANICGUY
Yes. NEVER. But now we know what women go through (with details).
AmiAthena
You know nothing, Jon Snow.
proxieme
Note the lack of a mention of the angry badgers that try to claw their way out of many uteri monthly.
AmiAthena
And just… so, so many other things.
IPeakedinSecondGrade
A little information never hurt anybody. Plus the drawings were interesting.
QTLingTorrasque
Interesting things are interesting.
StarrryNight
I did so mainly for the "Thank fuck I don't have to do this shit" factor.
NineByNine
scribbly and not especially well drawn yet surprisingly cute doodles are a big draw aren't they? Also honestly, was really p. interesting.
TommyCreo
As a dude, who has heard of the diva cup, but couldn't comprehend how it would be a preferable alternative, I appreciate this presentation.
myweaknessisstrong
right?
typingtreemonkey
It's cool to be interested in things the other gender deals with.
LeoHowler
Plenty of male gynecologists, my friend.
CaptYogaPants
@LeoHowler I can confirm. My dad is a gynecologist (and obstetrician)
GotBannedForPostingThatGifAMA
inb4 amateur gynaecologist jokes. Also, would definitely say a ton of charmingly inappropriate stuff.
KeeperOfTHEGIF
i feel like i just got my degree in gynecology
eidam655
you have to know your enem... i mean, fellow human beings.
Unnervinglylongmonkeydong
therealsiem
I've always wondered how they work, and as a guy this is as far as I'll get to knowing
Iamsonewatthis
As a male and fellow human I think it's important for everyone to know basic human anatomy. Ignorance of the female body scares most men.
Selalalalah
I'm a woman, and I can understand why it freaks some guys out; I mean, if a guy were to sit on a toilet and he saw blood when 1/2
Selalalalah
He looked down, he would probably be terrified and disgusted. It might be hard to compartmentalize that feeling when thinking of a lady 2/2
GotBannedForPostingThatGifAMA
Preach. The lack of understanding is incredible and slightly distressing.
Iamsonewatthis
This is why I hate abstinence in sex ed. Kids grow up knowing zilch about how everyone's bodieswork and it terrifies them. Not healthy.
noonerspisms
and as a result don't they have more teenage pregnancies? iirc
Iamsonewatthis
Funny how the "education" part of sex ed tends to educate young people about hazards of smashing naughty bits instead of EVIL EVIL EVIL!!
GotBannedForPostingThatGifAMA
(2) and chlamydia rates so I guess that helped. The teachers were more about keeping their kids in school rather than the good graces of God
GotBannedForPostingThatGifAMA
Luckily my sex ed classes were more about contraception, STDs and how to avoid them. My school was in an area with high teen pregnancy (1)
everydaygenericposter
Downside: I discovered my average flow is an alarming 10-14 oz.
cowcannon
Some birth controls greatly reduce the amount of cycle blood. I'm on nexplanon and I rarely have cycles when I do it's light :)
probablyharmless
Are you okay?
everydaygenericposter
I haven't died yet so... yes?
probablyharmless
Fair enough, good work.
myweaknessisstrong
ladies is tough.
TheBearsMaiden
Well its an average so people can bleed more or less that's why there are so many different absorbancy levels for tampons
spacecatts
Uhh get thee to a gyno
LeftCollectionBlueBird
Yeah, I call bs on that fact. I go through nearly a box of S+ tampons on my monthly. (And it's only 3 days long.)
ponywench
Mine was crazy like this and I still liked the cups. FYI and stuff.
unbreakablekimmyschmidt
Yeah that 1-2oz is BS! I usually fill mine up on the heavy days.
UptownFunkgotmeLockedOutOfHeavenwitha24kMagicGrenade
I can only go 6 hours on my heaviest.
Wandyx
Better than two! ;)
vyoletnytmayre
As do I. But I would rather empty a cup a couple of extra times, than stuff bleached cotton in my no-no square. TYVM.
unbreakablekimmyschmidt
Yup I agree!
Wandyx
I'm a 10 hour girl in the first two days then it's 12 for the rest. I'll never go back to tampons.
minizeries
Because a 10 hour day on the cup is a 2 hour day with tampons. Ugh. Uuuuuugh.
Wandyx
PREACH. Do NOT miss that.
TakeAHolidayInSpain
Yeah I've heard others say that. What's the deal?Does it mean something is wrong?
vyoletnytmayre
Sometimes. I have PCOS and endometriosis. So my heavy days are like I'm dying. Definitely something to chat with an OBGYN about if you do.
ncNinetyNine
I'm sorry what is PCOS stand for? What you described sounds really similar to what I experience every month
sammislamajama
Polycystic ovarian syndrome. Causes you to gain weight, have lots of body hair and bad acne along with a heavy flow
TakeAHolidayInSpain
Sorry if this is waaay TMI for you to share, but is it 10oz of like gloppy thick stuff or just watery liquid adding it up to 10?
vyoletnytmayre
Uterine lining? Sometimes. Sometimes it's a mix of both. Sometimes it's a hell of a lot more than 10oz.
TakeAHolidayInSpain
Thanks! This was helpful.
Dianiko
Mine is high as well, you just dump it out more often, it is still shitloads better (and cheaper) than tampons. Buy one, last you 4 yr
ponywench
You might tell your OB....I had a similar flow and now I no longer have a uterus.
ThatDarnBandit
Is that a "Yay I no longer have a uterus" or a "I had to have it removed"?
ponywench
Shit had to go...
