Twilight Imperium (4th Edition). My favourite board game of all time (and it takes a long time too). I loved 3rd edition but 4th edition just smoothed out the experience. I still miss the distant suns module but it's not for everybody. (edit: It's visible in the pic but I just wanted to add the game name and edition)
I like the look of that cheeky Vagabond. Always up to trouble...
Fortress Merica
Keeping those commie bastards off our pristine shores... does it count if I'm Canadian? Yeah, it's all North America right?
Axis & Allies 50th Anniversary Edition. A beast to set up but now its just waiting for the players to arrive.
My wife playing Carcassonne while in Wuhan last summer (2018).
Teaching Antike II while in China last summer (2018). Good times, although my wife was playing Rome and was getting bullied by Carthage. Sad face.
Another game of Antike II with friends in London. The Blue Player kept triggering my OCD in the top left corner... kidding... kind of.
Battle Cry! 150th Anniversary Edition. Come on boys! Give them the cold steel!
Battlelore 2nd Edition. FFG killed it before I got my flippin' pointy eared elves. Oh well, it still rocks.
Where did you put my manga collection you foul beast from the abyss!
Demons vs Mutants vs Cyborgs vs Angels vs WWII Soldiers vs Vikings...
vs Elves vs Dragons... you get the idea. Heroscape was and still is one of the best games in the whole multiverse.
NexusOps (the newest version, sorry no glow in the dark beasties for me... single tear) It's kind of like a knife fight in a phone booth filled with Rubium Dragons. You know we have all been there once or twice in our lives, right?
Ghost Stories with expansions. My Mom loves this game even when we have about a 60% losing chance per game. The Blue Moon expansion helps (sometimes).
An oldie but a goodie. I wish Ikusa came with the little plastic swords. Completely unnecessary, unless you want to duel in-between turns. I have both but prefer the look of the old one for some reason.
I think Divine Right is such a cool game... but the family just can't get into it. Oh man, if "they" could just make a modern version of this to get people on board in today's market. (Who are "they"? TSR? Right Stuf? Good luck with that!) OnO
Legends of Andor. Not quite an RPG, more like a puzzle/story game.
This board looks way too busy in the pic but it is more functional in person. But that board... wow. You need a MEGA TABLE to fit that thing.
History of the World. A civ game you can play in two or three hours? Sign me up!
My hybrid game mixing the old Heroquest game with my Descent 1st edition parts. Looks like the Heroes are having a pep rally before going into the dungeon.
I have a whole dungeon full of house rules and mods to the game. I might get around to posting them on boardgamegeek.com one day...
ThePoetofNightmares
As someone who loves boardgames but has never played a single one of these; thanks for introducing me to them. They look badass.
sanicbandit
My brothers and I play Twilight twice a year! We schedule a day and play two games back to back. It’s our favorite board game.
IIINanuqIII
Nice! 4th edition is much more "time friendly" than 3rd. I'm happy if I can get two or three games of this in a year.

It's the women's slacks that give him the confidence to do this.

Living the dream man.

Get Scythe .... you'll love it
BrockEffingSamson
Lot of people in the comments wishing they could play more: check for local groups on Meetup. Or start your own! If you have a Jason's Deli
BrockEffingSamson
near you, they're usually glad to have gamers hang out, just ask ahead of time.
MossySloth
You look like you'd enjoy "Scythe." Did you also get the chance to Kickstart "Tainted Grail: fall of Avalon"?
DJent777
Yes. I love scythe
EricForeman
Have you tried Settlers of Catan?
IIINanuqIII
No, I did not. But I DID back the new Claustrophobia 1643 and it rocks my socks off! I liked the old one so no surprise I guess.
IIINanuqIII
I'm not a big fan of Scythe but the new Iron Harvest RTS (with the same artist) looks more my kind of thing.
elaming10
Try Feast of Odin, any of Legendary, Terraforming Mars, Roll for the Galaxy, and Castles of Burgundy...seriously I could go on forever
BrockEffingSamson
Got to do that AFFO expansion last week, I really like it. I hear rumors of a deluxe edition of Burgundy coming.
TheHorseShesElbowDeepIn
I have almost every game you have, even a copy of Divine Right! Love your taste in games.
IIINanuqIII
Man, I wish that Divine Right had a bigger following. There is NO game out there like it. Dragon Pass and Demonlord come close... but no.
AkLonewolf
Have you tried Napoleon In Europe from Eagle games?
IIINanuqIII
No, can't say I have. Any good?
AkLonewolf
It looks good.. I have owned it for years.. not many people in Alaska to play with haha
IIINanuqIII
Wow, I thought finding Wargamers in Ontario was hard. You win! :)
arewenotkingsandqueenstogether
But you forgot... It's about the cones.
SwirlyMcGirly
Punishingly intricate, I’m told
DeinEggo
Came here for this. Was not disappointed.

I call Ledgerman!

I've yet to play #1, didn't realize it looked so much like my personal all time favorite, Eclipse.
IIINanuqIII
If you like economics and old school video games like Master of Orion, go with Eclipse.
IIINanuqIII
If politicking and saber rattling is more your thing, then TI4 or Dune are the bees knees. :)
BigDamnHeroInTightPants
Are you looking to adopt?
IIINanuqIII
Lol, I wish I had the room to invite everybody that wants to game to the table. Who wants to bring snacks to that game night?

I have tried SO HARD to find a reasonably-priced copy of even the NEW Ikusa, to NO AVAIL. It's a freakin tragedy. I NEEDS IT, PRECIOUS.
strideo
Just make your own copy using poster board and crayons!
IIINanuqIII
Keep an eye on ebay from time to time. A copy of that or Samurai Swords shows up often enough. Don't pay more then $100. Highway robbery.
Biglebowski748
+1 for Heroscape!
Madebynintendo
i miss that game. pieces often feel like they're gonna break. I want to play it but i dont want to break it.
AMoistTortoise
Thats a game I have not seen in a long time. Wish I had more sets and all the pieces
CommentFarmer708
My family did for a long time. Holy shit that game gets hard to manage. Took probs 25% of a room just for the cards!
AMoistTortoise
See that just gets me excited at the complexity

Classic, love this vid. XD
slayston
Oh mann now my heart is broken I sold a huge collection when I was desperate for money..but...now I have money...to Ebay I go!
FlyingAce94
That one just solved one of my childhood mysteries. I had seen it several times, but whenever I asked, no one knew what I was talking about.
LordSkippyTheMagnificent
My last Twilight Imperium game was dual system and took 18 consecutive hours.
IIINanuqIII
That's a lot of Red Bull... @0@
hannibal1barca
No terraforming Mars?
IIINanuqIII
I have kind of odd tastes in games. Other then maybe Root, my tastes don't really line up with the new "hotness" on boardgamegeek.
Kieralynh
I understand that, but looking at your collection, have you tried SeaFall? Takes 5-8 sessions to get good but SO MUCH FUN after
IIINanuqIII
The only legacy game I played so far was Pandemic Season 1. I see the appeal of them (like Sea Fall or Gloomhaven) but just not for me.
profparm
Your taste seems heavy on wargames, which I feel like aren't getting made like they used to. Root is amazing tho!
IIINanuqIII
GMT games keep the dream alive. *0*
minipancho94
i wish my friends were into axis and allies. had a game with my late father last over a week before we had to call it a draw.
lenzio
The best part of hero’s quest is the furniture.
IIINanuqIII
Oh man, got that right! Never again (other than Kickstarter bloat) will we see that kind of chrome.
vibur
I like you. How does Antike II compare to the original?
IIINanuqIII
Never played the original, to be honest. I believe that armies cost more metal to build and some differences to technology costs. Not 100%.
smashfiend
+1 for Twilight Imperium
TurgidMember
+1 for battle masters! I still have my (very worn) copy
IIINanuqIII
Adds to the value. It just means it was well used as every good game should be.
Meowsma
Man, I still remember the Christmas spent putting all those stickers on.
whattttttttttttttttttt
I wish more of my friends liked boardgames :(
IIINanuqIII
Save some $$$, go to conventions, meet board gamers! Take this advice from a hermit like me. :)
Lepercake
I played so fucken much Twilight 3ed and none of the new ones. Woop woop.
Wolferene1
I grew up on hero quest, so glad I found a copy of it again, down side is I need to strip the models.
bukketl4d
I took my copy to boy scout camp when I was a kid and it got damaged in the rain. I really want to get a new copy now that I'm an adult
IIINanuqIII
Look out! It costs a few shiny pennies on ebay today for a complete set. You can sometimes get lucky with somebody lowballing the price. @n@
Wolferene1
Can confirm, I lucky got the base set from a client I worked for, but I recently got a sealed copy of Kellar's keep, which was close to £150
IIINanuqIII
Yeah, the nostalgia is powerful with that game. I just like adding in a few extra rules to improve the turn by turn strategy.
sticksosteel
What rules? I just finished the pre-made campaign with my stepson.
IIINanuqIII
That would be a long post. A homebrew mix of ideas in short. Inspiration from things like Descent, Battle Masters, Level 7 Omega Protocol.
Captin0bvious
#1 twilight imperium. I bet that wad a fun week haha
Razblaze
You kidding? They're still playing that exact game. Its in room where you need two keys to even unlock the door. The cat named satan must be
Razblaze
kept out at all costs. Failure to protect room from satan cat will surely lead to galactic disaster.
KatieFamCat
Love this game!!! Plan on spending your whole day learning the rules. Play 7 times before you remember the rules.
IIINanuqIII
Find awesome tutorial videos on YouTube. Throw game manual in the garbage. Just kidding about that last part but vids online help. :)
asrai86
We played a game of that at work during lunch breaks. Fkn thing took 3 months
IIINanuqIII
What the heck? Did you build life size scale models of the ships?
ThatNormalPerson
I love twilight imperium, sadly, I can't play it with my friends because they have no taste
IIINanuqIII
Get new friends... lol just kidding. Look online for board game groups or cafes in your area. :)
metalmagic4
Played my first game of TI last weekend. Only took around 8 hours over two days to finish, half of which was looking up rules. Great game
unicdk
I lost five hours of my life just scrolling past.
imshibagel
Literally almost lost my best friends over that game, and I'm sorry but the rules make the game too fucking slow
IIINanuqIII
Some game groups are just not good at confrontational "dudes on a map" type games. Try Co-Ops, preferably ones with shorter game times.
RuthlessRuben
Have you tried 4th edition? It's faster compared to 3rd. Still takes ages, but much less than before and the turn sequence is better.
profparm
It looked like a low player count game; I played a 3-player game in 3-4 hours on Sunday. 4th is better than 3rd if time matters to you.
IIINanuqIII
Yeah, it was a three player game in the pic. When teaching new people the game I like lower player counts. Epic 8P games are only for vets.
ImShocked
It's my favorite game in the world but it's like twice a year only that I can convince 5 others to dedicate an entire day :(
IIINanuqIII
That sounds about right. 1 game of Twilight is like 50 filler games anyway. :)
ihateimgurffs
Try exodus proxima centauri. It's like someone crammed TI into a few hour slugfest. New version coming out on kickstarter soon.
myusernameisnotcreative
MY group can't play TI because turns take so stinking long other players get on there phone and 20 min goes by before anyone knows notices .
ShadyVex
We have a house rule that we play it with the Axis and Allies turn system, you preform your entire turn in one go instead of cycling, took 1
ShadyVex
The game time from 36 hrs down to 8 for us.
Derptator
What do you mean not cycling? You mean through turn phases?
IIINanuqIII
That's ok. Modern life makes it harder to play longer games. Try Kemit or Bloodrage. Lots of fun in half the time! :)
myusernameisnotcreative
We play Sycthe and terraforming Mars and surburbia fine just that one for some reason kills our entire day
robogeek78
I want to play this but i have no one to play it with.
YouJustGotRickRolled
Check out Stellaris on steam
robogeek78
Already have stellaris
imnotimpressed
Same! How many days off should I take to play?
wizzardseye
Its on Tabletop Simulator so you know, game can last about 5-6 hours
frankeemuniz
Depends on the group and the understanding of the rules. The first time we played through completely it took us just over 9 hours
CoreDeep
You must have lightning fast players. It took us over 16 hours on our first go. Maybe 4th edition is faster?
frankeemuniz
It is, they did a great job with it
Phyoke
My fiancee and I got our asses kicked by Legend of Andor! That game's tough.
IIINanuqIII
Same here. The 2nd expansion (the one at sea) is a little more forgiving then the main game for some reason.
Phyoke
We've got it but haven't played it yet, we should give it a shot!
moachaen
Twilight Imperium is one of my all time favorites. Roots is lovely. You should check out Twilight Struggle!
IIINanuqIII
I own it but suck at it. I also am trying to get into the COIN games but it's slow progress. Not a big Wargaming community in these parts.
Thewrighthandman
How the hell did you have time for that in one day?!?! One game of eclipse takes like 5 hours
IIINanuqIII
3rd Edition was an easy 7 hour marathon. 4th is about the same as Eclipse. 4.5 - 5 hours (if everybody knows how to play).
ImDoggo
Any recommendations on board games for older folk? I'd like to get something for my folks and they're around 80 to keep their minds active
IIINanuqIII
My Mom was a nurse before retiring and she likes Pandemic (I wonder why). She likes Lords of Waterdeep but keeps calling it Watership. XD
ImDoggo
Hah that's awesome, and thanks! I am writing these down and hitting up the store later this week to see what they have :D
EmporerDragon
I've found Ticket to Ride, Loot, Red 7, Blokus, and Machi Koro to be well received by older members of my family.
ImDoggo
Awesome, thank you! :D I'm a DnD player and I know they wouldn't get in to that - I'm clueless about board games lol
profparm
In addition to what OP said, Carcassone (featured above) and Azul are both good choices for older folks.
ImDoggo
Awesome! Thank you heaps for that. Writing it all down and checking them out this week. I appreciate it :D
onlyhalfghost
Settlers of Catan is a classic that's pretty easy to pick up, if you can get at least four people together to play it.
strideo
*at least 3.
ImDoggo
4 people no worries. Thanks for the recommendation, there's a game store nearby so I'll look in to getting it!
AtheistJoy
There’s a 2 person way to play Catan that are in my traveling version. I can’t ever get 4 people to play anything where I am.
slimfast
as an american, no it doesn’t count if you’re canadian...the molson light of communism.
IIINanuqIII

You hurt my sensitive Liberal feelings. :P
