Our country is fucked up. I only have hope for when the millennials and gen z get into office, we would have some changes around here.
Times like these have come and passed before in the history of the U.S..

If SFGate is to be believed...we're done.

They will try again with a Trump. Could be tweedle dumb or tweedle dumber, the giant ogre baby or most likely the one married to the vampire Kushner.

And the self-proclaimed "pArTy Of LaW & oRdEr" decided to back a felon as their candidate.
theyallwenttoMexico
Does it matter? WAKE UP! He'll take your country if you let him.
cowgoesmoo1
They've already got it.
oldguyexlurker
I hope YOUR hope is not misplaced. It has seemed to me that every generation I've watched has recognized that we've got problems that need to be solved by governance, but the (vast majority) of each generation that chooses to GO INTO GOVERNMENT are the power-hungry, greedy assholes from each generation. I thought mine would change things, (early GEN-X) but I did not want to enter the quite evident cesspool. My bad. And I SERIOUSLY regret my inaction. Just voting isn't enough.
ipointoutnahtzeesbyreplyingtothem
No, this has not happened before in the US. The last president that was even remotely this nakedly corrupt resigned in disgrace, and his name became the defining punchline for crooked politicians.
We're long past any normalcy. We have a bought and paid for SCOTUS, a representational branch that is gerrymandered to the right at all levels, and multiple ongoing wars we either started or are on the wrong side of, the most evil of which the party in "opposition" materially supported.
BobJones786
Might I suggest, making it illegal to marry anyone under the age of 18, and illegal to marry any cousin or family member? Those two laws might help. Also, eliminating the Child Labor law that Nazi Sarah Huckabee Sanders passed in Arkansas. Cue banjo music.
DaisyfromDownunder
Oh KKK.
ilovebigmutts
Good luck with that, seems every generation is dumber than its parents.
Apeofdeath
It is strange that people worship Trump, not even good looking
cowgoesmoo1
A pundit somewhere said "Trump is a poor person's idea of a rich man, a stupid person's idea of a smart man, and a weak person's idea of a strong man."
When Trump's not lying, he's frequently wrong, but he doubles down and says what he says with confidence. That (apparently) is all his followers need. That and the stupid things he does say are in agreement with their own thoughts.
lightfoot2
As a Gen X'er I've been waiting for Millenials for 30+ years now. And to be honest they look like more of the same. *sigh*
Dolenmorgul
Ok, so the next generation has to solve today's problems, never heard that one before. I'm 50 years old and not an american so it's not exclusive to the US but I have heard the same thing all my life. It usually was a about the climate but today's problems always seem to be the next generation's duty to solve.

Fuck Merchan
Teyken
You guys need more Luigis, make it impossible to live and be a lawless at the same time.
KillingTlme
Yeh. Faith in the generation that group up blasted with social media and infinite TikTok videos. The next Trump will be so much worse, as will the voters
lostwalllet
The worst part of all of this is how he’s completely fucked our justice system. DOJ lawyers, the hardest job to get, are resigning in droves and being replaced by losers: the Supreme Court is fucked for at lease a generation; and he’s undermined the trial by jury process.
I’ve served in Manhattan and Federal jury duty for decades and they don’t fuck around. He was judged by a grand jury as well as a highly-vetted jury of his peers. He has used the justice system as a weapon for decades.

There's a good chance your country stops existing in November. Pretty sure the GOP have reached the point where they will forcefully reject any voting result that isn't them winning. So either they'll win in November and descend into full fascism... or they'll lose and revolt.
AtmaDarkwolf
Accountability and consequences and... ya... make 'legal bribery' (IE lobbying) a thing of the past, and PUNISH those who take bribes and .. REALLY, REALLY punish those who take said bribes to sway in favor of foreign governments and/or criminal enterprises. Learn to say 'NO' an to send ANY politician to the curb when they work against the interests of the very people who got them into that seat. Like INSTANT retaliation for working AGAINST the people type deal. No 2nd chances.
AtmaDarkwolf
Anyone in public service = nice decent(Fair, even a big on the 'high' side) salary, but ALL their wealth set into locked trust account, by people who have no connection to them (or know who's accounts they are managing) and they serve office and use only 'dedicated funds' for said position (IE all they need and want are covered, but none of it goes with them when they leave office)
gobbin
Impeach the perverted cunt before he burns the world & the economy.

White privilege is a hell of a drug
flordelasantillas
Do you remember Juan Merchan? He's the pussy judge who wouldn't send Trump to prison.
METROlD
My grandpa strongly believes its a hoax. "Nobody gets 34 felonies! Thats too many. Its clearly a witch hunt"
5knotcans
You can run for office if you have felony convictions?
Volpe42
Technically all the founding fathers were felons for committing the rebellion.
moocowincog
The founding fathers foresaw a situation where a good/just politician was smeared and falsely convicted by his opponents and should be electable anyway. That's the theory anyway...
andwings2go
The founders never thought we’d be so stupid as to elect a known crook.
5knotcans
But you lose your right to vote.
razark
Yes. Imagine if there was a corrupt leader that demanded his political opponents be investigated, charged, and imprisoned. Trumped up charges would be all it took to keep them from running against him.
While we're unlikely to ever see such a thing, there's a slight chance it might happen some day.
Sebastopol140
The dumbest part of a whole country chose a known criminal as their president just because it validated their racism and bigotry.
'MURICA!!!!
McBzz
“Chose” that’s cute
Shaodyn
And they were proud of it. They were wearing T-shirts with messages like "I voted for the felon".
Imademyselfsquirtle
And rapes, and fraud, and pedophiles, and incest, and lies, and hypocrisy etc etc.
iwanderedlonelyasacloud
He said Elon stole it for him. Murica didn’t vote him in. He just said he was staying for another 8-9 years. They have told him it’s in the bag again. Thats what’s f’ed up.
JaceCameron
This is what they wanted. They want pedophiles in charge they want fascism. Its all they have left.
TheobromineAddict
Only because the dumb people actually voted.
Shoutrr
and the apathetic pieces of shit didn't.
Sebastopol140
The dumbest are always the loudest. Everywhere.
InfocalypseRising
Remember when they sentenced him to "nothing?" literally just said "well yeah he's guilty as fuck but we aren't gonna do fuck-all about it?" That's the part I remember.
Iftheyredeadtheyrejusthookers
I mean, there was no injured party to pay restitution to. He said he had collateral worth x to the bank, the bank said it sounded right and gave him a loan, then he paid the loan back. the government is saying he overstated the value but the loan was paid so there was no one to give any sort of fine to.
Volpe42
It wasn't nothing. He was fined wasn't he?
magus200342
Reminder that fines for rich folk are just mild annoyances that are the lawyers and accountants problems. They're never affected meaningfully by fines.
InfocalypseRising
Nope. Not even a fucking fine (which he wouldn't have paid anyway): https://www.npr.org/2025/01/10/nx-s1-5253927/trump-sentencing-new-york
