Survivor bias, anecdotal evidence, what-about-ism, "kids these days", truism, tokenism. Quite an elaborate bullshit construct you made there

I posted links to studies on racial inequalities in the U.S. justice system in a different comment if you want to check my history.

7 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 4

Correlation does not imply causation. Disparate outcomes do not imply disparate treatment.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

Those are great studies, but they're not actually evidence of racism. You can't just point out a disparity and insert racism as the cause.

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 15

The studies control for other factors. I seriously doubt you read enough in the last 3 minutes to determine they're all bunk.

7 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 4

Those studies have been around... And I didn't say they were bunk. I said they weren't evidence of racism, because they aren't.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 10

Racism is probably a part of the problem, but it's a leap to assume it's all or even most of what's causing the disparity.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 6

Yeah, that’s not really how it works with racism

Things are better today than they were. It does feel good to see yourself as a hero in a world full of monsters though.

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

It's bad-No one should be getting more grants, better access to jobs, or laws that protect them only b/c of their skin color, genitals, etc.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

And the racism today is against whites. We need to get over this if we ever want to live in peace. Racism is nothing but ignorance

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 8

There's still tons of racism against other races.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Racism has nothing to do with it

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

Racism will exist as long as we divide ourselves in races. We're all just different shades of people.

7 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 12

Tribalism seems to be a biological imperative. You don’t start with ignoring systemic problems.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But we can't just ignore racism. It exists. Saying that stuff is delusional, because race does play huge role, whether we want that or not.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Imagine how funny it would be if we found aliens on mars. Some of them blue and some of them green, fighting over which color is superior.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Truem but it would be a lot less if people wouldn't make it such a big deal, spread lies and wouldn't want racism to be a thing.

7 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 17

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

NOT make a big deal out of racism? Ita fucked up generations of communities thanks to racists, just so racists can blame them for the issues

7 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 3

Well yes, thats not what I mean. I mean people make everything a race thing. Everything is racist, everyones offended.

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 6

I know that there's still racist people, a lot of them. But some people just WANT to get offended.

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 6

So racism wouldn't be a big deal if we just swept it under the rug? That's the solution! Let's just never talk about problematic things agai

7 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 3

Well, it's sketchy now because overt racism in the mainstream is pretty much dead. So now people are chasing "implicit bias" or coming 1/2

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

to conclusions of widespread racism when they see any statistical differences between races. It's a multi-faceted issue. 2/2

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

No, thats not what I mean. I mean focus on actual racism not make everyone be overly sensitive. Not get scared of a fucking word for example

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 5

You completely missed the point.

7 years ago | Likes 95 Dislikes 67

Missing the point is one of the things that causes this "dividing"; putting a 'BUT' behind everything is ruining society.

7 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 12

Yeah exactly. Putting that but there is saying he agrees with the philosophy but thinks he's wrong. Undermining the whole point.

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 4

Nah, I think you did. “It used to be a lot worse so current racism isn’t worth addressing” is what this says.

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Institutionalised racism is dead. it does not exist in modern America. If it did Evergreen would never have happened.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Dead, huh? I see you aren’t a person who can be reasoned with and I get why you missed the point. It was voluntary.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Police see men as more dangerous than women. They also see black men as more dangerous than white men. Neither attitude is good

7 years ago | Likes 302 Dislikes 68

I see you as a faceless serial killer

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 20

I think most people see it that way. I know way more women that have had racist shit shout at them than men, in the same area.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Men are more likely to be violent though. You can't just waive the magic equalization wand and make the statistical difference disappear.

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

They aren't wrong, there are a lot more men in prison for violent crimes than there are women.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Statistically speaking neither is unfounded

7 years ago | Likes 113 Dislikes 28

Maybe because redlining created the ghetto and then we gave them drugs? We made this problem and now we’re blaming them.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

The circumstances of ones birth are no excuse for immoral behaviour

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Statistically speaking, it's quite severe too...which really sucks. Gotta figure out a way to change it.

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

DECOLONIZE MATHEMATICS!

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 10

YOUR RACIST STATISTICS ARE NOT WELCOME HERE!

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 12

Right. But blacks are only more violent because they are more impoverished. That doesn’t change the value of their lives.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

It was still their choice to engage in violent action

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I mean, seeing men as more dangerous as women is perfectly reasonable, is it not? Men, *generally speaking*, are more dangerous. Men are>

7 years ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 9

>larger and stronger on average. That last bit is very important. There are definitely women that can kick just as much ass as any man can.

7 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 7

And, statistically, black men are vastly more likely to commit violent crime. Generally speaking. What do we do with this information?

7 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 3

Well, nothing can be done. Generalizations can be helpful, but not when interacting with an individual.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

..and statistically black men are more dangerous than white men. But I will be downvoted, right? Fix the cause, not the symptom.

7 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 6

I only downvoted coz you said you will be downvoted. I agree with you

7 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 5

I expected to be. There is usually a double standard when talking about race and perception and that completely forbids talking about it.

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

You have my upvote, if it means anything.

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Yes. Poverty leads to crime. Blacks are more impoverished. They get shot and jailed which continues the vicious cycle.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Between the World and Me is an interesting look from a black man’s side of things. It’s addressed to his son. Give it a read.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Because they fn are. 7% of the population and commit 43% of cop related fatal shootings

7 years ago | Likes 120 Dislikes 53

Cops also target black people for "enforcement" a great deal more than white people.

7 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 10

It doesn't exactly help that the majority of the black folks live in cities with an infamous criminal past before they were the main locals.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

I don't think the behavior of white criminals from a long time ago has much effect on the way police target their resources today.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It kind of does. Cops in major cities are the most paranoid and gang-minded of cops. And the gang mindset trains you to be uber-paranoid 1)

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is getting hated on for (I assume) racism but no one is saying its because they are a certain race that they do commit more crime

7 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 12

mainly due to circumstance. Race isn't the cause but don't ignore statistics just to avoid looking racist because stats don't careabout race

7 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 8

Facts dont lie. They get spun to fit a narrative. 7% of the population kills half the cops each year. Period. Full stop.

7 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 3

But race is quite good indicator in this case, I can presume clothes for example also play a role, you get young Latino dude with ms13 1/

7 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 8

2/ tattoos it sends a message, you see a young dude in specific types of clothing, that does so as well

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 6

Wealth is a better fit.

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Couple things wrong with this. They didn't include the most common police killing: while in the line of duty..

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

And they tried to breeze over the fact that much fewer black people are killing way more cops when that's pretty important.

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Would be more telling to look at the comparison of income and violence though.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

https://www.channel4.com/news/factcheck/factcheck-black-americans-commit-crime for those that don't want to subscribe to the WP

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Thw whole premise of the claim is wrong though. Black men aren't 12-13% of the population, they're less than half of that.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

...‘officers are no more likely to be killed by black offenders than white offenders.’ - last line in your article

7 years ago | Likes 54 Dislikes 8

That’s the WaPo denial. The article clearly lays out the facts which contradict their “conclusion”

7 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 12

10% of the population should not be responsible for more than 10% of the crime. The fact that cope are equally likely to be be either

7 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 7

Right, 50/50 chance.. but black males only make up around 7% of the population....

7 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 3

But what % of the apprehended? That's a critical stat.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You know a really good way to avoid getting profiled by the police? Obey the law.

7 years ago | Likes 53 Dislikes 70

Or if police profiles you, act like respectful civilised member of society

7 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 7

Then got shot in your car in front of your partner and child

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

You realise majority of verified cases were person threatening the police while police are aware anyone can potentially have a gun and use 1

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2 it on them in a blink of an eye? That's how officers get shot, person can be on drugs or have something illegal on then and consider 3/

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's like you don't even understand what "profiling" is.

7 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

You can get profiled even in that case. Something as little as the way your dressed could red flag somebody, the music your listening to idk

7 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 3

That will not stop a profiling. It Should stop a beating or false arrest, but not the profiling.

7 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

This is a joke, right?

7 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 10

What?

7 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 7

100% chance you're not black

7 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 11

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 16

Worst police encounter this one has had is a speeding ticket.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Nope have been approached with guns drawn. Nice try though

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 6

Hostility towards police is also a learned behavior. When you're mistreated you mistrust.

7 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 2

So is the ways the police treat people. So many cops have been killed because they didnt act

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

7 years ago | Likes 97 Dislikes 30

Proof?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 7

Prove that guy said that. But what does it matter, even if he did? He's obviously wrong.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Why?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Because black people aren't being shot because "they think they can do whatever they want."

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Cops aren't racist. Cops aren't a race or species with collective thoughts. They're humans, of many ethnicities. Some good people, some bad.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Eh, this is kinda bullshit. Just because lynchings arent a thing anymore doesnt mean racism is gone

7 years ago | Likes 138 Dislikes 30

Good old lynchings. I remember fondly my first time being lunched.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 9

Now they just prosecute and throw you in a private prison so that they can profit off your labor again, just like the good old days.

7 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 8

If your baseline for 'serious racism' is set to 'lynchings are a regular thing', that might affect your perceptions a bit.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ok, but you have to admit, the progress made is astounding. Some people act like the country hasn't moved on from the 1950's.

7 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 3

The progress made in the past 30 years is actually well short of astounding.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The racial wealth gap is worse than in 1983. The VRA has been defanged. White supremacists are more active than in the early 90's.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

1) So what changed in 1983 that caused a racial wealth gap? 2) Not sure what VRA is. 3) I think the increase is definitely caused by ->

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

the popularization of identity politics. On that last point, that is why I think this "no progress/always racist" attitude is so harmful.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

1) Nothing specific to 1983, just saying we've made no progress on that point. 2) VRA is the Voting Rights Act. 3) What progress has been...

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Who are you arguing against here?

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 6

Some people

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

The pessimists who always are trying to tell everyone how shit things are instead of taking a breath and acknowledging all the progress made

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

I do like the Steven pinker argument that the world is getting less violent. But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t keep working to improve.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes, but it's not very clear how to proceed when we've equalized the playing field in terms of rights. How do we improve things identified->

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Where are they here though? U haven't heard anyone say we aren't better off now than we were in the 1950's

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Not here, although I have heard that. Best captured in the chant being used today at universities "we have nothing to lose but our chains"->

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's not stopping the GOP from trying to bring it all back though. Hate crimes are up 220% in cities after Trump does a rally there.

7 years ago | Likes 53 Dislikes 15

"hate crimes" http://www.fakehatecrimes.org/

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 5

Not wrong, but hate crimes have been climbing steadily since 2014.

7 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

Correlation vs. causation? They even say in the paper it's not really clear why this is happening.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

It is a great sentiment but there was a child gunned down with a toy gun and lets not forget the guy shot while sitting in his car-

7 years ago | Likes 603 Dislikes 87

While questionable none of those events prove mass “systematic” racism. While individual events can vary the majority of society is better

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

and you have to cherry pick the questionable incidents 1s out of 10,000s to build a generalization. Generalizations are bad either way.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Both tragic. However, go and watch the body cam footage of fatal interactions this year. Unjustified shootings are very rare.

7 years ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 24

I'm with you halfway but a young teen waving around a not obviously fake toy gun is just a horrible situation.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Wouldn't be the same narrative as "young teen guns down 2 police because they thought his gun might be a fake even though it looked real"

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Bad people exist. That doesn't make bigotry okay.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You do realise this exact thing happens to people of other race but just not reported on. Don't let the media brainwash you.

7 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 7

If they are doin it to other people of other races, that means there is a problem. Not that everything is okay.

"The shooting of a 12 year old boy was wholly justified" :ok_hand:

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

7 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 9

Someone pointed what appeared to be a gun at them. You don't wait to find out if a fucking gun is real. Have YOU seen the video?

7 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 28

I saw the video. They could have pulled up anywhere that wasnt next to the kid and told him to drop it. They were 2feet from him and gunned

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Justified? You’re kidding right? Right??

7 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 4

-im just as racist as most of you but come on now there's an actual problem here let's not gloss over it.

7 years ago | Likes 188 Dislikes 34

Those are extreme circumstances that's why you hear about it. The norm is ignored. 300-400 mass shootings a year. Talk about that.

7 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 13

We do talk about that. And the people who don't want changes to gun laws say "what about urban violence?"

7 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 16

Do you think thats down to racism or down to poor training on the part of the officer?

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Well, what's it called when a black kid's possession is mistaken as a gun while a white kid's possession is correctly identified?

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

It all depends on circumstance. Unless all variables except the independent are kept at a control, you cant truly tell, and even then you'd

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Have to repeat the situation multiple times

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

When students can take over a campus and lock the police up chanting black power without anyone doing anything about it. Racism is dead

7 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 33

Did the toy look like a real gun??

7 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 16

The guy who called the cops told them "it's probably a toy"

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Then the dispatcher didn't pass that info on to the responding officers.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Yes.

7 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 3

Is that a reason to shoot. Maybe is you didnt make it a reality that a kid in America could have an actual gun easily this wouldn't happen

7 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 13

it was virtually identical to a real gun. Bottom gun is real, top gun is the "toy gun."

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It would be more accurate to call it a replica than a toy.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You're actually slightly more likely to get shot by the police if you're white. https://www.nber.org/papers/w22399 MMM is misleading.

7 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 21

Does that make it okay to be shot while unarmed?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Is that a real question?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2018/02/180205134232.htm this argues against that, from Boston University

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

No, it doesn't argue against that. It's just a different data set from a different region. One doesn't cancel the other out.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

[...] blacks are 21.2 percent more likely to endure some form of force in an interaction

7 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 3

and whites are more likely to get shot at without first attacking the police...

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 14

Directly contrary to your source, the part I snipped: Even when officers report civilians have been compliant and no arrest was made,

7 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 3

No, my claim is accurate. You're talking about use of FORCE. I said SHOOTING. They clearly make that distinction and have data for both.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 8

[...] officer-involved shootings we are unable to detect any racial differences in either the raw data or when accounting for controls.

7 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

*caveat: have not actually sat down and read through the whole paper yet. Just the conclusions.

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Well, if we're talking numbers, they're also responsible for 52% of all homicides. Just being "more likely" isn't enough info.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

The data shows they're slightly more likely... That IS the info...

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

But why, where? Are there areas this is focused in? Lotta violent crime in those places?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm just saying that data points can be used to smear folks easily if there's no context.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is that due to some sort of overt or implicit bias or due to tension due to perceptions of police interactions leading to escalation?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have no idea. It would be worth your while to read the paper, or at least the conclusion section and decide for yourself.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The paper is about the statics, I was asking for a hypothesis about why we see the racial disparity which the paper makes no claim on.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It is really hard to pinpoint the exact cause and seeing different outcomes based on race does not mean the cause is SOLELY racism.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It could be unconscious bias, reduced empathy for working with majority white precincts pulling over a higher proportion of minorities

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This comment section...you Americans are a different breed man. But congrats on finding a black dude who fits in your echo chamber

7 years ago | Likes 86 Dislikes 26

As someone from America, I can say but not all Americans are in that echo chamber.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yesterday on FP people were talking about how cops murdered some white girl, now it's all "disrespect deserves the death penalty!!!" Fuck...

7 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 6

That ain't nothing new by any stretch. Imgur has always been home to back the boohoo blue bootlickers.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Most comments I see are arguing against the image.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Please just remember that there are plenty of Americans who think this is horrible too. I hate the US... Wish I lived almost anywhere else-

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

in the developed world.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I'm not being dramatic when I say USA will be the next major country to fall to facism wether in 5 years or 50. People will cheer it on...

7 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 7

Already there, Commander-in-chief likes to say "Free press is the enemy of the people"

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

You are a liar.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

Your own source calls you a liar. "The Fake News Media, the true Enemy of the People". Not "Free Press"; "Fake News".

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Late-night Imgur is especially bad for whatever reason. Straight-up racism, sexism, and other nasty crap hits the FP in droves.

7 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 6

I’ve seen posts commending blackface make it to upper usersub rising before they got taken down, it’s disgusting

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

That shits not limited to late night

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Alt-Reich neckbeards don't have work or a social life. They just troll from their parents basement.

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Stop and frisk operations by US police target blacks much more than whites. Racism? Yep. https://www.nyclu.org/en/stop-and-frisk-data

7 years ago | Likes 58 Dislikes 17

Yet you're more likely to get shot by police if you're white. https://www.nber.org/papers/w22399 Sorry that doesn't fit your narrative.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 8

Sorry your own source refutes your narrative: "on the most extreme use of force [shootings] we are unable to detect any racial differences"

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

"officers report that they are 46.6% less likely to discharge their firearms before being attacked if the suspect is black." pg. 28

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

This specifically shows there isn't an epidemic of racist police shooting unarmed black people, which is the main stream media narrative.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

Again, I'm not saying racism doesn't exist and isn't a factor in law enforcement and the judicial system. I'm saying it isn't an epidemic.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

“US police” that was only NYC buddy

7 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 9

I thought NY was in the US?

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 4

Stop and frisk was a NYC program not a us program and they study only covered NY police.

7 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 5

Were those US police?

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 5

I would say this is more stereotyping, not racism.

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 11

What?

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Stopping & frisking people who are stereotypically more likely to have committed the crime, not targeting because of a hatred of skin color.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You know that racial profiling is racist, don't you? The name is sort of a clue...

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But they then act upon racist prejudices/ stereotypes with their authoirty/ power, which is literal racism

7 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

I do agree with the power thing, but prejudice is not the same as someone being racist.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I mean that's an interesting idea, but when you consider that BLM happened because innocnet people were getting shot by cops, it's also

7 years ago | Likes 58 Dislikes 16

wrong. Sure, criminals get themselves shot a lot, but as far as I'm aware, people weren't getting outraged about that.

7 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 7

BLM happened because Michael Brown was shot and killed. He was far from innocent.

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

Wasnt it started because of criminals getting shot? I mean, give me the date they were founded and which shooting triggered it...

7 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 7

Depends on the crime. Being executed for a selling loose cigarettes or running away with a street-legal pocketknife is not okay.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Perhaps, but i recall "hands up, don't shoot" being the initial rallying cry, which was based on a lie after a guy tried to take a cop's gun

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Cops go to thousands if not millions of calls a day. They fact that more mistakes don’t happen is a miracle. We just hear about the 1 bad 1

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 5

No, it's a sad reality of having a police force tooled up and paranoid abouot all the criminals in the same position

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

5 in Britain, in Australia, in New Zealand, in lots of other places, it's not ignored.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

4 and by care so much more, a great deal of this is just preventing the wider population from being tooled up. When things like this happen

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

3 also police are called upon to try to treat criminals with the intention of not escalating things like that.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

2 wheereas other countries have much lower shooting rates not just by police but by society because they care so much more

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There are plenty of unjustified shootings, unfortunately BLM has a record of outrage over the justified ones instead.

7 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 9

Oh?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Yeah Philando Castile was just a big o bag of black rage huh?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

What part of this argues against my point? Also love the "black rage" touch there on the end. No projecting happening at all.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What’s up with all the ppl claiming “projection” lately? Comes from lots of Trump supporters, interestingly.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I am sure it has nothing to do with the collectivized narcissist hysteria fostered by Marxist ideologies you espouse, nothing at all.

i got into a fight a few years ago. so i should be shot when im told to get my registration? dont be a simpleton

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

This whole situation is an absolute tragedy, but the fact that it was infront of his 4 year old daughter hurts my heart. Senseless loss ?

7 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 4

I think of Philando Castile often & his poor child, who will have to forever live with the memory of her father being killed in front of her

7 years ago | Likes 144 Dislikes 13

It wasn't her Father...

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 9

Oh. Well she’ll be fine then and look back on it with fondness

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It doesn't matter. Someone was shot and killed in front of her. Can you imagine how traumatic that must have been for her?

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

And without any reason. Just imagine how she must feel like now. Knowing that even when you do everything right you could be killed. What >

7 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

a loss of security must she feel! It would freak me out.

7 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

She was begging her mom to calm down so she wouldn’t get shot too. A 4-year-old. It’s one of the most heartbreaking things I’ve ever seen

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It’s stories like the that make me not want a CCP. The odds of me needing it are less than something happening for having it.

7 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 4

It's a matter of how well you can handle yourself in that situation. It's rarely the victims fault in those situations, but doing the right

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 8

Thing the right way, knowing what that is from the cop's perspective goes a long way to being safe. Even as a white kid, even before i

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 5

Started carrying, I've always announced my intentions to cops that don't seem to be totally at ease. Especially if the interaction comes

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 5

About due to something more serious than a moving violation. If it's "you look like a suspect in a crime" you should be incredibly cautious

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 5

Well, to be fair, you shouldn't have soviet socialist republics in your car.

It's the people's car, comrade

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Police officer told him not to move because there WAS a GUN in the car. He moved. RIP.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

so you think the murder was justified then?

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

No I don’t think it is justified. The officers are under a lot of stress 24/7, they are trained to kill. We need stop and obey every order.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

we need TO stop obeying every order, or we are forced to stop and obey every order?

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Literally. 1. Stop 2. Listen 3. Obey 4. Don’t die.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The fact that it made the news and is notable enough for a large wikipedia article speaks to how uncommon an event it is.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

A lot makes the news and gets its own wiki page? are those things uncommon?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes. Common things don't make the news and aren't notable enough for Wikipedia entries.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Lol a post about unity between divides racially and this asshole thinks “naw not today, let’s polarize some more with this comment”

Or a 70 year old white man reaching for his cane in Clover, SC.

7 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 2

They do. But in an environment where your race can invite extra harmful shit, you find yourself at higher risk around them.

7 years ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 7

If you can find one case anywhere in the us where a white CCP carrier was shot while declaring his CCP and his weapon....oh wait, you can’t.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

Statistically you are more likely to be pulled over if your are a non white even though you may be a minority in that area source in reply

7 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 5

Correlation isn't causation. More black people are disadvantaged, and those people -no matter genetics- are more likely to commit crimes.

7 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 4

Thing is you don't need causation as a cop. All you need is the correlation to know they're more likely to yield a bust

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Was this the one where they cop said not to reach for his wallet and the guy continued to? Shouldn't have happened, but the cop didn't...

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 9

...know if it was a gun or wallet the guy was going for. Not in any saying all are, but the FBI ran numbers, and 13% of the population...

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

Yes even better, all that was preceded by him telling the cop he had a gun. "Alright, just don't reach for anything". Reaches for something

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

Gets yelled at don't reach, still doesn't stop, gets shot. Even if he wasn't doing anything illegal, he was an absolute moron.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

I'm not a fan of calling him a moron. Partly bc he's dead, but he also may not have heard the cop.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

If you're not allowed to get your license or registration out what the fuck are you supposed to do? Sit there looking at each other?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I think cops are trained all wrong. They emphasize protecting themselves more than protecting the others unlike firemen.

7 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 4

Firemen and Police officers have to deal with totally different situations

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Not true. They're suppose to identify danger and save people. Police treat everyone like fire.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Burning buildings dont throw grenades, they don't sneak up on you from behind, they don't open fire when you pull them over

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Protect and serve, not protect your ass.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

They have a right to defend themselves as much as anyone else.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It was tension and bad communication on both sides. He was told not to reach for his gun, he didn't. (1/2)

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 8

When he reached for his registration unannounced he got shot. Absolute shit-show; officer should have been far more verbally engaging.

7 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 7

The gentleman as well. My gun is on x side. I'm reaching for my wallet, I will move slowly, one hand up. Situation was bullshit and he didnt

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Deserve to be shot. Tension is way too unnecessarily high between cops and blacks due to mainly ignorance.

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

He reached for the registration because he was TOLD to reach for the registration.

7 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

No, only one side was at fault. Castille followed orders to a T and got shot for it. He literally did nothing wrong.

7 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

Castile was pulled over bc he matched the description of a robbery suspect. The similarity? They both had a “wide-set nose”, ie, black.

7 years ago | Likes 64 Dislikes 20

Matching a profile isnt racism....

7 years ago | Likes 53 Dislikes 52

That's matching facial features but going off the nose alone is a bit much, as in a bit, I mean there's probably some racial bias there

7 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 12

Not as serious, but i was once conforted by mad dad saying i broke his daughters playhouse, i asked"based on what?" black cap and a bicycle.

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Stopping someone just because they have the same skin tone is however.

7 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 8

Matching a profile based solely on a facial feature common with one race is

7 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 23

Saying that one race has a common feature is racist.

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 17

It *can* be. Depending on the make up of the total populous.

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 6

So you're saying a black man committing a crime made the police believe that this black man was the criminal? I fail to see racism.

7 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 38

So if a black man commits a crime then it's ok to pull over any other black man because they might have a similar nose? That's all it takes?

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Well if you're looking for a black man, why would you stop and search someone who wasn't a black man just to be pc?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

I hope this was sarcasm. But at this point I can't tell. It's akin to Japanese US residents in internment camps after Pearl Harbor.

7 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 7

Rightfully so, you can't have people with sympathies toward the enemy roaming around in wartime. It's understandable.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 13

How is investigating a crime based off of what little info you have the same as imprisoning a whole race?

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

The cop who shot him was later acquitted of all charges. Absolute bullshit.

7 years ago | Likes 397 Dislikes 28

Yeah and this is what people mean by black live matter. If it was a white guy people would be losing their shit

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Cops statistically shoot white people (even if they are brandishing a firearm) less often than they do unarmed black men (per case).

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But if we imprison cops for shooting peaceful black men they might stop shooting peaceful black men!/s

7 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 2

It's because the way the laws are written is absolute insanity, but politicians can't win with a campaign of "let's get tough on cops!"

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

When cops do wrong it is so rare that it gets to court that a racist/stupid/threatened jury acquitting is especially disheartening.

7 years ago | Likes 82 Dislikes 6

Most of the time the shootings are justified and no one bothers to read the public police report so they say it is unjustified based on 1/2

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 9

Zero evidence whatsoever other than a news headline. 2/2

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 6

Granted. This was not one of those times. Really sad

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

At least the department had the good enough sense to fire him after the trial

7 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 0

It's ok, he'll be rehired by another department.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

If we want to stop this, we need some kind of national registry of people who shouldn't be allowed on a police force.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Cops commiting crimes without justice isnt rare. This isnt a brutaility issue its an injustice issue.

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 4

It's not so much racist as the cops get off no matter who they shoot. Of course it's mainly because the laws protect cops a ton.

I get that police get shot all the time but if that makes you unsteady an unable to properly assess a situation you shouldnt be a cop

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 4

That cop starts shooting before he has even seen a weapon, as far as im conserned thats gross misconduct which resulted in murder

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

The thing is is that cops really DONT get shot at all the time. The biggest killers of cops are traffic accidents and heart disease.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

You don't get into car accidents all the time but doesn't mean you shouldn't drive defensively

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Do you know what "per capita" means and why it's important when talking about population statistics?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Yes. Which is why I specifically said I wasn't talking about per capita but rate among police interactions.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

...interaction with the police is slightly lower, but during those interactions the rate of use of deadly force is higher.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I don't think it was a justified shooting however what the video doesn't show is that the officer told him not to reach for his gun.

7 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 13

And that's why he was acquitted.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

He was reaching for his wallet to get his license since the cop asked him for it.

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Did you read the transcript? He told the officer he had a gun and was told not to reach for it and he continued to reach.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 7

So how's he suppose to get his license the cop asked him to produce? Kind of a no win scenario.

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I agree. I don't like to Monday morning quarterback but as soon as the officer says don't reach for it, you have to stop and do what he asks

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Their entire encounter was 40 sec. there’s dash cam from the cop car. His partner didn’t draw his weapon. The cop panicked and lost control

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Why do you think he panicked?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I watched both videos of the incident & the immediate aftermath. It’s obvious he did not have a clear, level head & control of the situation

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Why do you think that?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Yes one or two instaces of a cop shooting an unarmed black man should be treated as a problem. Furthering the divide and negative sentiment.

7 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 74

Why only 1 or 2? Just curious about why that particular choice versus 0 or 10.
