Ok, so am I the weird one here? I never tried to slow my board down by friction on the back end. I def didn't grow up poor, but I didn't (imo) want to needlessly wear down a "consumable" item like a deck. I usually just circled until I ran out of momentum then hopped off.
Oh, I get that lol I started with handmedown boards, so it didn't bother me at first. They were already jank when i got them. I do have decks now that I'd never skid to a stop with. Also I'll sometimes throw skid plates on the board just so I can stop like that on more surfaces and not wreck the deck
