Depending on the type of average calculation you are doing, yes it does. Average can be either mean, mode, median or range type. Most of the time when someone says average we're talking about a mean average - sum of the values divided by the number of values. E.g. (4+5+6+7)/4 = 5.5

Range was a new one for me. I did a quick Google to check what I remembered was correct about median and mode before I wrote my comment, and saw range in the results. Range is the difference between the biggest and smallest number in the set. E.g. for the numbers 4 5 6 7 the range would be 3.
