Any time my cat tries to tell you something it always leads to the food bowl or to where he pushed his fountain off the power plate... he's a spoiled brat.

My cat wakes me up every morning at 4am to fill her bowl. Even when it’s full from the night before (points at brain) she still wakes me up to walk her to the bowl to show her it’s full… because she couldn’t check before waking me up… because she doesn’t care about that. She only cares about the walk. “I love you, too, Ribbon. Now let me sleep.”
Where I live, most of the time it's barely cold enough to need to wear long clothes, let alone run a heater so energy efficiency isn't really an issue. Yes noise is an issue but I live here on my own so it's not that big an issue. There's some nice advantages to it though, I have a HUGE play area for VR and if I want to rearrange how the house is laid out it's trivial to do. It's a pretty cool little place actually and I'm planning to build something somewhat similar in the coming years.
Nah, some cats are just dumbasses and eat too fast. Ours free feed, but if we forget to fill the bowls up before bed, they'll wake us up with empty bowls, then gorge themselves, throw up, and start again. They're fine the second time, after they slow down, but they'll do it again next week.
My cat used to do that until I bought one of those slow feeding mats - it’s a small flat bowl thingy shaped like a fish (doesn’t have to be shaped like a fish, I just thought it looked cute) with grooves in it that you fill food; since the cat can’t eat a bunch of it anymore in one go, it’s forced to slow down and eat a few bits at a time which really helped manage his indigestion and impatience.
one of my cats used to do this too. I read somewhere that some cats eat really fast because either the bowl is too low or they don’t like their whiskers rubbing the edges of it. I put a plate on top of her bowl and put food there and she hasn’t been sick since

"Something's wrong with mom..." is totally the trauma! Seen it a few times myself and couldn't quite place it. What's even more unhealthy is I'm trying to figure out why just showing excited relief at this feels like flirting.
They felt excited relief at the shared trauma being recognized and named. But then they analyzed themself further, and when they were showing that excited relief, it felt like flirting. Which is probably a different unhealthy issue.
