I never would have thought that my “favorite and forget” would have come in handy as it did but here’s my story.

My mom called me and told me my sister was trying to commit suicide. She took about 60 pills and called my mom to say goodbye. Fortunately, I live across the street and work from home. I ran across the street and when I got to the door it was locked. I remembered this and was able to break the door open on the second kick. I got to my sister and made her vomit by force 3 times and when the paramedics arrived they took her to the hospital where her heart stopped. She was in an induced coma for 5 weeks and survived. Don't use this move in a fire.

Check first which way the door opens.

Sounds like you have been doing this for a long time , I hope things improve

Your sister is lucky to have you!

The jump kick looks pretty sweet though

Is the door OK?

Living in a country where front doors open outwards. What now ?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

@nevertrustawetfart been there too, not all heros wear capes! Get support for yourself too, IT WAS TRAUMATIC!

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I actually started seeing a therapist about a month before this happened.

This is why it's good to share information, even if it seems "common". You never know when it can change or save a life.

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Hey. Are you okay? Do you need anything?

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

I’m good, thanks ?

In today's post, @OP is a goddamn badass and also a f'ing wonderful person. I wish their sister & mother both a swift and thorough recovery.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I’d expect the same from everybody ?

I'm sorry that happened op.

Well done, hero.

You're my aspiration on how my kids support each other when they're older. Respect @op

5 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 1

Making each other gag?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

First you gotta give the the trauma so they can rescue each other like that. I suggest starting with jumper cables

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I learned to never make them vomit, since the pressure moves the poison mouth AND gut at the same time. Let the ER pump it out...

Gastric lavage (stomach pumping) is rarely used now, but there’s other methods of decontamination. The important thing is they see MD asap.

It was a panic reaction

This is on of my biggest pet peeves in movies

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I really like the one in Jungle 2 Jungle where he just bounces sadly off the door.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I know they do it 'cos it looks dramatic/cool, but I really think the "proper" way looks dramatic/cool AF.

I’m reallly hoping the down votes are because they don’t like the suicide coma part but this is the internet after all.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

It's bc they're a holes

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I hope your sister makes a full recovery. How did you induce the vomiting?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Put your finger to the back of her throat.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fingers down her throat. I got a lot of it out.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm curious how you force someone to vomit. Fingers down the throat?

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This is not always a good idea. An unconscious person can aspirate the vomit, making the situation much worse. Wait for paramedics. I >

charcoal capsules. Because I might get confused and take more than im supposed to. Or suicidal again.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Did you try pulling first?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If she really wanted to die she wouldn't have called anyone.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

This is half truth, but you can’t assume that people aren’t scared or sad they want to die.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not really. Is she dead? Nope. She can write a sad letter, make a video. She reached out because she really didn’t want to go.

Nope. Those who really want to die don’t risk being stopped.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don’t speak from ignorance or inexperience so maybe don’t try and minimize my comment.

I don't either.

There’s nothing wrong with a cry for help but my point was I don’t believe this person really wanted to die.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What if she doesn't regret trying to kill herself, is more miserable now, & has greater resolve to succeed next time?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We think that a lot but she seems better, especially being off so many meds now.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not to seem insensitive. I'm from the 'if someone wants to go, get together, say goodbye and help them go' camp

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I mean, if that’s how you’re raised, then that’s that. Hope that works out for you.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you bring a hammer, you can smash the knob off most doors in a swing or two. If the door is well framed.

5 years ago | Likes 57 Dislikes 5

If I had a hammer I'd knock out a window

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

That's not how I remember that song going.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

???

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How does that help? Door is still locked.

5 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

Got to hit something with a hammer

5 years ago | Likes 62 Dislikes 0

Stop! It's hammer time!

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

You can land your kick closer to the lock if theres no handle

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Locking mechanism is generally in the handle. Can just pull out out and twist open

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

U have never installed a doorknob in your life have you? Modern twist doorknob is 2 separate parts. Knob itself is not lock but the latch is

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have actually. The old ones you can absolutely do this. Had to smash a handle off one of my doors when we lost the key

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If the lock is in the handle, knocking it off makes everything fall of the door so it just opens? (is my guess, I don't know actually know)

5 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

That's pretty much accurate.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Unless there's a seperate bolt, removing a doorknob can render the knob/latch assembly virtually useless.

5 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Better be prepared to kick the door down though, a lot of modern doorknobs protect against this and you’re just waisting time then.

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Yes thank you. I have installed 60 doors, so breaking one is a matter of understanding. Also I don't need a window to get into a house, I'

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

ve cut so many openings into houses it's not going to take much time for a contractor to gain entry. 5 mins straight through an exterior wal

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

5 minutes is a really long time when someone’s life is on the line it only takes 10 seconds to slit your wrists. If @OP sister had done 1/2

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Is she better now? How do you not overcome with worry about leaving her alone again? It’s your mom ok?

5 years ago | Likes 407 Dislikes 1

No op obviously but you dont overcome that worry, you try to get them the help they need and try not to panic visibly everytime they leave.

5 years ago | Likes 49 Dislikes 1

Yes she is. She self admitted a week prior saying she was suicidal but they let her go after 72 hours. She’s off all her meds now.

5 years ago | Likes 291 Dislikes 0

All the strength to you and your fam. I hope she finds the peace she needs to keep fighting life long.

5 years ago | Likes 81 Dislikes 0

I am saddened to hear that your mental healthcare services are not up to modern standards, she deserves it. Must be awful for her.

5 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 0

Is she still suicidal after that brief stint?

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

No, she’s actually happier.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

i think what OP was saying was before the attempt she self admitted and they bounced her after 3 days. then she tried to kill herself.

5 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Oh...! That makes more sense.

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Is she meant to be off her meds? I’m glad that means she’s all good now. If I stop I relapse :’(

5 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Same, my meds are the only thing between me and an anxiety depression puddle

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

We’re going to try another approach. All the meds really messed her up.
