I started smoking cigarettes when i was [age redacted]. My parents never knew. it's been 7 years and I am now smoke free for the longest time since I started. I want to tell them about it because I feel proud of myself, but if they find out I hid it from them for so long they will be so cross with me

They knew. Everyone knows who smokes. You smell terrible. But congrats on quitting!

I was a closet smoker for years. Still feels good to say I quit and have people that never knew. Enjoy the money and fresh air!

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Hey dude, I'm a parent and I'm proud of you. Keep it up, you're doing great.

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Congrats. Stopping smoking is no joke.

6 years ago | Likes 173 Dislikes 1

I smoked from the age of 10 to 36. This month is 2 years of not smoking. It's hard but it gets easier. You can do it!

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Bruh. Everyone knew, you smelled like a shitty smokehouse. But congrats on your cessation!

6 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 5

Secret alcoholic here. Definitely understand that feeling. Any progress in kicking the habit has to be my own private sucess.

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Well your faceless internet friends can now be part of that private success. You'll get there, and you're not alone.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

tell em. own it. sound your barbaric yalp from the rooftops of the world.

6 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 1

There are "anniversaries" when people get the urge to smoke again. At least it was true for 2 packs a day smokers back in the day.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It’s almost better-if people know you’re quitting they’re always asking you how it’s going like “fine till you just reminded me I want 1”

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Good for you! It is not easy to quit. Keep going, stay strong. Thanks for sharing

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They knew, share it with them.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I "hid" it from my wife for a very long time. She caught me a few times with smoker's breath etc, but for the most part didn't know I was /1

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

an every day smoker. I was finally able to quit when I turned 30, 8 years after we married and 10 years after we started dating. /2

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I confessed it all once I had quit for long enough that I knew I was done for good. I think it was around a year smoke free.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Holy shit, that’s the first big hump after that 3 day insanity itch. It’s only easier from here on out. Don’t go back to zero days!

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You are doing great OP! Its a tough battle but i believe in you.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I started to smoke when I was 13, smoked for 11y. this year my new year's resolution was to stop smoking and I did. 1/3

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I didn't smoke for 9 months, and then my fiance left me.. so I started again. got on 2 and half pack a day. then I realised 2/3

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

that I want to stop. and now I don't smoke anymore. but there is no better thing then a morning coffee with ciggeret. I miss it incredibly

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Damn impressive. If you can quit after life pulls that asshole shit, you'll kick those cravings. Might take a while but you can do it!

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Dude fuck it! Congrats on quitting you deserve a pat on the back even if it is from an Internet dude. You rock! Stay healthy my friend

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Share it... There is nothing worse for you than to hide your achievement.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Man I wish I could quit! Keep up the hard work

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

As a parent and an ex-smoker and I'm very proud of you.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Share it with us OP. Good on you and as a fellow former smoker, great work! Keep it up!

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Congratulations! Quitting is a bitch but you can do it!

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Good job. It’s been over a year for me. It gets easier each day

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hang in there chum, it takes another couple of months for it to be completely out of your system.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nicotine is the one drug I haven’t been able to quit. Serious props to you man.

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

I'm proud of you!!!

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

thank you dad ❤

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Good job OP. You should have used Confession Bear

6 years ago | Likes 58 Dislikes 5

Isn't confession bear about doing something stupid?

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

damnit! i was so anxious about which one to use and confession bear was my first draft

6 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

At least you prepared

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

We're proud of you.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Good job. It gets easier, it really does. Maybe you won't go through that phase where everyone smells really bad now b/c you vaped.

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I love how smokers think they can “hide it”. You can’t. We can all smell it.

6 years ago | Likes 989 Dislikes 20

And breathe it and get cancer too hate smokers

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 7

Not true. Have a smoking jacket, with hood, that hides the smell really well. Co-workers never knew until I told them.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Depends on what you smoke, I am smoking quality tobaco, Javana or golden virginia) and when you smoke outside and walking around the only

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

thing that smells is your hand. But my colleague smokes some industrial shit and he smells badly at 100 meters.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I love how non-smokers are so quick to tell smokers what they do and don't know/can smell/can taste.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

My family never figured it out. The times they picked up on the smell, they thought it was other smokers.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Smoked in my room for 6 years. Didn't get caught until I got caught when smoking in town. If you're half diligent its easy.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Yep my mom knew lol

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I hid it on and off for about 7 years. Finally kicked the habit a few months ago!

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Nope. Smoked in high school, mom never knew. She would have killed me.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 5

Smokers can't smell shit, so they think they are sly.

6 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 5

It's called noseblind

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yep yep yep was about to scream this at OP

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Not ture, no one know I smoked for years. Did it only outside while walking so hair won't smell, also wet wipes for hands, alcogel, gum.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

if it makes you sick/allergic, you can detect it, whether it's 2nd hand or third hand..

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Nah I started in HS and smoked at home. If they ever knew they'd have killed me. It just depends how/where you smoke and covering up after

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I love that non smokers think they can always smell it ? great, that’s exactly what we want you to think..

6 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 6

Ex-smoker here, I quit two years ago after smoking for over 10 years. I sure as shit can tell if someone smokes.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

You can hide it if you dont smoke much, only smoke outside, change where you're holding cig based on wind, handwash/gum brush teeth

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

It seriously depends. As long as they don't smoke where they spend most of their time, they won't smell much. Smoking at home and in the 1)

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

car are the main perpetrators since you spend a lot of time there. Not nearly so much smell if you only ever smoke outside and are careful.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Guy at work was addict and had regular smoke breaks - outside, in a specific spot, as had become law. Also occasionally liked a beer at

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

lunch. You could smell both of them on him afterwards.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I mostly agree, but if you're not a chain smoker you can learn to ACTUALLY hide it. Hand wipes/sanitizer, essential oils, hairspray (1)

6 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 2

When you have a bloodhound parent you learn quick or not at all lol (believe me, when I smell like smoke at all I HEAR about it)

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

In high school, the smokers sprayed themselves down with axe. Instead of covering the smell, they smelled like cigarettes and axe.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Oh God... my bro used to leave an Axe trail behind wherever he went. I'd take Febreeze any day over that shit lol

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Same goes for booze.. I do both

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

After quitting, I had move and I noticed all of my clothes REEKED! 14 loads of laundry later, no more smell.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hid it from my parents for 3 years while living with them, the key is where sweaters outside, come home immediately go to room 1/2

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Ditch sweater, go to bathroom wash hands and face 2-3 times and your fine, especially if you blow smoke down wind and air out for 20 mins

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Its not easy and takes tactical precision. But i hid it for 3 years from my whole family. I was caught 3 times by different ppl but not for

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

The smell always had the cig in hand. I was just in a bad spot and not aware of my surroundings. But it was cousins and uncles so rents

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Didn't find out till i told them.... i know because it became a thing

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Your parents were either oblivious or didn't bother to make a mess. You can't hide it. My parents didn't say anything when I smoked and 1/2

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

only after I had quit for good they told me all those times I thought I was on the clear they knew everything. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Sounds like you aren't meticulous enough to hide it

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Oh, I was. Used rubber gloves, changed clothes etc... It's just something nigh impossible to hide and the rest are just lying to themselves.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Or you sucked at hiding it. Most likely.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

i swapped to vaping (douchebag alert) once they became mainstream

6 years ago | Likes 273 Dislikes 9

They smelled you before mate...

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh lordie...you think you didn't stink like a skunk hate-fucking an older, uglier skunk. Bless. BLESSSS.

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Yea dude, people can smell you from a mile away, even with vaping. It’s like an eyesore but for our noses.

6 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 8

It's possible, I think, if you only smoked outside and let yourself air out a bit. They might believe you got the smell on you 2nd hand, too

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's possible, I hid it from my parents. I never smoked a lot either (about 2/3 a day). I also moved out at 21. So yeah, possible.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I also smoked outside and aired it out. My co-workers were surprised if I told them I smoked because I didn't smell. I don't like the stink.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As a smoker I can tell you, we don’t smell how other people smell us. Smoking dulls your sense of smell significantly

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do you seriously not know how much and how strongly that stuff smells?

6 years ago | Likes 116 Dislikes 5

As a smoker no, but when I “quit” for a while I’m always blown away by how much it smells.

6 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 0

I've never noticed a particular smell with vapers. Nicotine isn't the aromatic thing in tobacco. At most some of them who like fruity

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

flavours might have a slight tinge of synthetic strawberry to them, but that's not far off cheap deoderant anyway.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Actual smokers though... it's like a fart in a lift.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

They do not. Smokers don't know they smell like poo.

6 years ago | Likes 86 Dislikes 5

I don't smoke often, less than once a month, but I for some reason love the smell and have since I was a child

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A lot of us do know, and hate ourselves for it, but are addicted and haven't found the willpower to quit

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

HEY! I know very well how much like poo I smell!!

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I would rather tell my parents I smoke crack out of horse skulls than tell them I vape

6 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 25

IMO more douchebag to care about others vaping, but that’s just me. Do I vape? Fuck yeah, have for years.

6 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 11

Vaping causes second hand smoke issues, too. The research is starting to come out. So you vaping is bad for me.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 10

Literally impossible, as it's not smoke. It's about as damaging as standing in a steamy shower.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

how would one go about....nevermind.

6 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

Let’s put it this way. I know the person in the car in front of me is smoking. With windows closed.

6 years ago | Likes 172 Dislikes 3

Yeh friend buys brand new car, I go to get in "you smoke?" never have seen him smoke "no I dont" -- You sure about that?? lol his GF smokes

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

like must be 3 packs a day cause it was brand new car and it stank bad..

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

less then 1 month old, had obvious signs of ash blown around interior too..

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

On 95.

6 years ago | Likes 63 Dislikes 0

3 miles ahead

6 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 0

Uphill

6 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

I dunno about that, but there was someone smoking with their windows down (in December! they must really not want their car to smell...) in

6 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

front of me the other day and I could smell it before I saw them dimping the ash on their mirror.

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

It's not as pungent or pervasive as weed, but you can still pick it up very easily.

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Not true. I had several in-laws that never knew. The secret is to never smoke in your home or your car. I smoked for 20yrs this way.

6 years ago | Likes 72 Dislikes 9

People here are adament you can't hide smoking haha. They seem to be really passionate about it

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Smoking kills your sense of smell. Before I smoked, I could smell the brand from 50 yards. Now, I can't smell if you smoked in the last 5min

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

To a degree, and it varies. I smoke but have a very good sense of smell.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

My friends kept taking the dog out on new years night. So nice of them! I had no idea they went out to smoke and just brought the dog.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

yeah, i sell medical devices that remove cancer and i smoke cigarettes. no doctor or colleague knows i smoke. i actually quit a month ago

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

but i'm just saying it is entirely possible to keep it secret if you're trying

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh, they knew. They were just too polite to say, or didn't care.

6 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 5

Nah my parents would've killed me if they knew I was smoking in highschool. I always went outside, stood downwind, washed hands after, etc

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Maybe appreciated that you were doing it outside / away from the kids or whatever.

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Granted anyone directly sniffing after having one is going to notice.

6 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 0

That is definitely true, but on top of that you can smell it in a smoker's breath. Not just right after smoking, but pretty much always.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Of course, but gum+essential oils+hand sanitizer/lotion does the trick till you get to a bathroom. You learn the ropes after a bit

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

I took it the extra mile and wore a latex glove so my fingers wouldn't stink

6 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Clings to your clothing and hair

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Yup. I just said I was hanging out with smokers. I was a shitty kid.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0
