All linked together like little sausages. You might swoop to snatch one up, and you end up with a whole clutch of the things. THEY WERE DESIGNED TO BE DEVOURED!
ALTEFFFOUR
Noooo I was not ready for this twist.

I love Pocketss's stuff so much
cbog
Fuck yeah new pocketss!! Been following since the witch gave the invitation to the harpy. Some of the best show-don’t-tell world building I’ve ever seen. They convey so much in so little space / so few comics. I fucking LOVE pocketss

Bet that's someone's pet dog and it'll bring it inside the house

Hey man, she's had a lot of summonings, so she's got a LOT of dogs to look after. One's bound to slip out now and then.
CodeWarrior
How old are you, Spurt?"
"7 days."
"Spurt, how long do Kobolds live?"
"7 days!"
magus200342
Those were the glory days of that show, rip spurt

Eleven Days!!
CodeWarrior
Was it eleven? Damn my spongey forgetful brain!

Relevant flavor text.

Thanks for introducing me to my new favorite piece of Commander tech.
Harbltron
Damn thats a cheap hard counter to a green deck
CaptainRedbeardButOnlyTheBeard
Not in Urza's Saga block, it wasn't. One of the most busted blocks in the history of the game. It's been a real long ass time, but IIRC, even standard format was too fast for green to get seven lands out.
CaptainRedbeardButOnlyTheBeard
Nvm, misread the card. Like I said, Urza's Saga block was busted.

Anyone who plays land wipe cards shall be burned at the stake.
justfillingthespace
If you're playing it purely for the sake of fucking with people, that's one thing. If you're playing it because it's the only viable counter to somebody's strategy, that's another. This is why it's important to have a Session Zero.
Trigfire
You clearly never played against someone with an obnoxious landfall deck who not only gets out thrice the mana as everyone else but also gets rewarded for ramping so hard that it becomes impossible to catch up lol
"Spending resources to get ahead on mana? Oh, no, my good sir, in fact I shall gain 1 Life, draw a card and make a token for each land entering, thank you very much"
knotydes
Fun fact. American football is a goblin sport in mtg...... Just with a bomb as the ball. Its a legit story from one of the anthologies. Damn I'm a old nerd
Gnakenheimer
The colors of magic anthology. Some good stories in there. I love the one with Feldon trying to get his wife back through different means.
BritaThePurifier
God I love MtG goblins. Goblin sledder is one of my favorite oldies.
RoombaTheAssaultVacuum
Goblins legit have had some of the best flavor texts and card art for 30 years. My first deck ever was goblins.

In battletech a planet is conquered via a foorball game during the Clan Invasion (genetically engineered human super soldiers from beyond colonized space). And they have a strict warrior culture and challenge mind set. The NFL equivalent on the planet sarcastically asked if they could play Football instead of violence. Hoping the invaders didn't know about Football and could win on experience. The Clans power armor troopers are HUGE football fans and play it almost daily for team work training

“Situated deep within the Draconis Combine, Sheliak was a minor planet with few resources. In fact, it was of such little military value that even during the Clan Invasion, when Sheliak suddenly found itself near the front lines, the DCMS did not assign any troops to defend it. Thus in December 3051, when Clan Ghost Bear invasion forces appeared over Sheliak, the planetary government was in a state of panic and agreed to a desperate plan proposed by football commissioner Jimmy Lorne.” 1/3
BigRedNerd
Confident that the Clans knew nothing of the game of football, a challenge was issued by Sheliak's government. If the Ghost Bears won a game against the Sheliak Professional Football League, they would claim the planet; if they lost, then Sheliak would remain free. Unfortunately for both Sheliak's population and their football players, the Bears not only knew the rules of the game, but deployed a team of eight-foot-tall Elementals from the 68th Striker Cluster's 78th Elemental Support Binary.2/3
BigRedNerd
During the match at Kurita Stadium, the Sheliak All-Star team was utterly smashed and lost the game, 84 to 3. During the postgame show the planetary government surrendered control of Sheliak to the Ghost Bear Clan. 3/3

Last Warhammer Blood Bowl game wasn't that long ago though, so... that's not old at least
knotydes
I'm talk bout a book from the 90s. So yeah it's pretty old now.

first edition WH Bloodbowl came out in 1986

I didn't know about the MTG thing. If I had a nickel for every bloodsport version of US football in a fantasy setting... well I'd have two nickels. Wierd that it happened twice
DatDarthCaedus
The Yetis in the third terrible The Mummy movie also apparently know about and appreticate US football despite being an isolated and near-uncontacted group of supernatural monsters living in the mountains in 1946.
There's a scene where one of them scores a goal by kicking a Chinese soldier instead of a ball, and they do some celebration after.
