I love that he immediately and wholeheartedly lied and put his life on the line to save Peter Parker. That was the scene that sold him to me completely.
He hated spiderman, but he cared very much for Peter even though he was hard on him some times. JJ only hated spiderman because his wife was killed by a man in a mask and he was projecting his own anger for the masked man who killed his wife onto spiderman. Grief makes people do irrational things

It existed in the comics and is a part of his character. You can't explain that kinda stuff for a side character in a movie like That. If they didn't kill uncle Ben every movie, his lessons would still be part of who spiderman is even if it's not explained. I'm glad they included his strong resolve and that he is a good person under his hatred. It added a lot to his character without any of the comics background of him
