First thing I did as manager was implement a new policy. everyone got an email the day before the meeting, “anyone actually need the meeting, or can we do email updates this week.” we got down to maybe 1 meeting every 2 months, the rest done entirely by email….. until *my* boss found out and insisted we have the meetings “in case anyone else wants to drop in.” No one had ever dropped in, and since then (back on weekly meetings>
no one ever did drop in again. The boss was just pissed we didn’t waste time spinning our wheels. Eventually someone in the dept. (sadly not me, it was brilliant) had the idea to just “schedule” the meeting, and hold it for about 5 minutes, mark everyone as present (if they were or not) then close it out after no higher management joined. That person was brilliant and thats what we did.
Killing those meeting initially, then just implementing that person’s idea to continue it even with upper management’s BS, is still one of my proudest accomplishments as a manager. Less getting in my people’s way with useless BS, more just letting them do their thing.
Microsoft tanked a company called Takelessons, which gave me half of my income. We believe it was because they tried to push Teams on us for video lessons and we all refused so they said, well we'll just close the business then

I will say SYNC is the true horror. I have never had a normal time with it. Always a problem with the whole thing. I want to rip it out of my car by force. My hate for it knows no bounds.

That's so interesting. I've had the exact opposite experience. I hate that teams doesn't allow me to share a portion of my screen like zoom does. I also have more reliable connections with zoom. Maybe it has to do with how my org has implemented them both?
I've not had connectivity issues with teams and I primarily work remotely. I don't love the interface and there's some annoying aspects, particularly when sharing.
But you can share either a single monitor or window when you attempt to share. Maybe not a static portion of your screen but, honestly, that seems like a pretty niche market. When sharing a window, it adjusts the shared area to the window size, so you can change it however you like. I do that when I need to enlarge text for viewers.
Yeah. I work remotely too but have an extra wide 5120x1440 monitor so screen sharing with teams is rough if I need to share more than one app. I would agree it is probably niche, but we're also talking about Microsoft. Surely they have the resources to add that functionality.
Yeah, these services are really dependent on company implementation. I work for a huge company with an IT department that's the size of a medium sized company on its own, and we spend many millions of dollars on Microsoft services a year, so we get a lot of attention from MS.
For me, some of the reasons I know that people hate it are because it replaced zoom, so it’s different. It’s mandatory that we use it (I work for Washington state). It has crazy jargon like your Teams team. And now the worst is they want internal phone calls to go through teams, etc. It also tells on you if you’re not continually online and your little dot changes color. I have a masters degree and I could not quickly figure out how to set up a meeting lol.
I work construction, most all my meetings are onsite. I've only used it a handful of times. It's weird to me that nobody ever shows their face, so I am always sure to make it weirder by being the only one with video feed lol. But I've never had any issues.
