Made it through my first day and night on my own before caving and coming to the er. Feel 20x better and have a plan for rehab in the future. Wish me luck. Update: through withdrawal with no permanent damage thank god. Mom and friends now know and still love and support me. I’m lucky

You’re doing incredible work, and I am relieved you received medical care. Lost plenty of good folk coping with withdrawals without medical attention. Alcohol withdrawals can cause you to seize anywhere and it can cause horrific deaths.
Please seek medical attention, friends. We need you around. Slip ups never triumph over your accomplishments. You are a goddamn good egg! A rarity in this world.
gtotherizzle
Good job on seeking help. I wouldn't wish my withdrawals on anyone. I'm at 26 days today, you can do this and good on your wife
waheliod
How much does one drink per day, say 180lb, to have withdrawals. Can withdrawal cause permanent damage? I usually just get shaky and my liver and heart tingle and I get sweaty. Should I do some of my own research or am I not quite there yet

Two steps forward one step back is fine, so long as your next move is two steps forward again.

I'm feeling for you. I went through it several times before I finally put the bottle down. Like the worst damn flu/stomach bug you've ever had in your life. ☹️☹️

Keep going. Don't give up trying to quit!
crowkiller06
Stay strong my friend. You’re only human, just like the rest of us.

So.... One day sober! Congrats, that's always the toughest one to do. Now you get to make it two!
bloodtaker3
That's what I've got, one day sober.
Eight years worth of days with the help of others.
You got this, op

You just have a new record to beat, is all. You can do this. Best of luck @OP !

Everyone relapses, buckle up that helmet and move on, we got you

Having a good support system is great. Had my ex by my side the whole time. Couldn't of done it without her and even though we werent compatible, I will be forever thankful for her.
You got this OP

Sounds like you have a good spouse, relapse happens, and is just a set back keep growing, keep healing, you are doing great.
soliddreams
I can't tell you how many times my mom relapsed and now she's been sober for 25 years, it's all about putting in the effort one day at a time. Also get checked for ADHD because sometimes that is what's causing the alcohol craving. I had the same problem.
Jimthebutler
Great work form your mom ( and from you from the sounds of it) undiagnosed, under represented, disabilities are a big factor for addiction and for many other difficulties, glad you got diagnosed. Hope you both are well.
SpicyGoober
Good job keeping positive on it. NEARLY lost my liver to it. The hospital made it much more manageable for WD's. They do suck. Good luck!
Blackmetalhappiness
Relapse is not a failure, @OP. Good luck to your future. You're in good hands.

The only thing better than being drunk is being sober.
LespritDeLescalier22
You got this. Couple this with some 12-step (more so to get a sponsor than anything else,) some CBT and possible psychiatric meds. There is no shame in asking for help or using meds to manage should you need it. Always remember: perfection is the enemy of good. Your recovery won’t be perfect, nor should it be. Black and white thinking is part of the addiction.
MadamPuddifoot
@op also sell therapy. Addiction is just numbing feelings you don't want to face, rehab alone doesn't help that. Speaking from experience here.
LanceSackless
Its really important to emphasize that relapses are the norm, not failure. As long as you get back up and try again, you’re still on your way
Skystriker8492
Trust me when I say I know how this feels, I spent the better part of a decade trying, now I'm at 15 months sober. Managing a sober living house and about to graduate college summa cum laude. Booze is especially shitty just cause of how available and acceptable it is. Genuine advice for u get a psych eval. Being properly diagnosed and treated made recovery possible for me. And good luck
Swampmoosething
Remember, after relapse you dont start from nothing, you have found the path to recovery before and you will find it again
redtruck
Please. Get to rehab now... It's inevitable.
MoreaWine322000
Good on you for sharing. Sharing helps make it real, helps you process and creates a feeling of accountability to yourself. I believe in you.
fenrir4life
Finding that balance between giving yourself grace and holding yourself accountable is one of the hardest parts of recovery. Good luck!
EngorgedPhallus
It's not your fault, but it IS doable. Having people around you who care and believe in you is huge.

We believe in you OP

Yes, but I wouldn’t bet on ye either. Little shitter. Man up and stop letting evil companies poison and control you!! Your demise makes them more powerful!!
Farfarfaraway88
Nah. Less addicts less profits.

…yes?! That’s my whole point!!!

@op I forgive you too. Best guess, we all forgive you.
But the most important thing here is that you forgive yourself.
There is magic in the effort you give, the result is unpredictable.
You hope for the result but you can only control the effort.
Stay strong.
Just think of how experienced you are at this point. All you learned getting to this point will make you stronger.

Listen to the song “accidents can happen” by sixx AM
It’s really, really a great song about relapse

The road to sobriety is rarely a straight line. Love those who stand by you and allow yourself some grace.
