My point is that saying that everything is to deflect from the Epstein files trivialises the struggles, deaths, oppression etc of everyone who are victims of decades, or even centuries, of cultural, racial, religious, capitalist, imperialist oppression. As far as I know they have mandatory service and drafts, so I don't think there is the same opportunity to call them stupid for signing up? But the US does neither because it is easier to target groups via capital rather than authoritarianism here.

I broadly agree- except that some people don't really have a choice. Bad circumstances, growing up in extreme poverty, or even an abusive household- all thing means you don't have access to good opportunities. For some, military service might be their best option.

There's a haunting POV video I saw of a Ukrainian drone going after a Russian soldier. On seeing the drone, the soldier immediately dropped to his hands and begs for his life. Literally on hands and knees, begging. Poor fucker probably never wanted to even be there.
