I was told to rip open bags of perfectly good (but expired) food to throw in the trash when I worked in the grocer store. When I realized people legit dumpster dive for it to survive, I stopped destroying the packaging and pretended I didn't notice the fella waiting by the dumpster. I was only 14 when I realized it cost me literally nothing to help that guy. Fuck the system.

When I was homeless I got a job at a charity business that's operation was get dated food from grocery stores and sell it for dirt cheap to people approved by social workers (mostly immigrant Irani/Persians and guys that were at the same shelter as me). We always ended up with scads of candy and not enough room to sell it all so I would stuff two bags of the stuff each night and give it to the guys at the shelter. Funnily enough they thought I was boosting it, not getting it for free. 1/2

(2/2) Now I work at a high end grocery store where I have to be hardcore about date for our customers so I get to shrink close to date product out and it goes to a service that distributes it to charities like the place I use to work at.

When I worked at Amazon Fresh, we got a plan to donate to the homeless shelter all the stuff that was close to sell-by dates. They wouldn't take alcohol or stuff that had passed the date. About a year later, we found ANOTHER place that took EVERYTHING. Wine, beer, stuff that was past date. Best thing about working at that place. They did still tell us to dump any hard liquor out. Shame about those multiple bottles of $200 scotch that were 'damaged' ;)

Well, considering you can buy Laphroaig now, and give a bottle to your son every birthday, then he sells those and buys a house, no. A lot do NOT have expiration dates (Must be over a certain proof/percent) But mostly it was knuclkeheads who didnt understand the boxes sometimes are PART of the sale. You can't just cut open that pretty box. Sometimes the barcodes don't match, whats inside as a bottle has a different UPC than the gift box it comes in. (cont'd)

Yeah but in a way, that's kinda worse isn't it? The idea of belittling others becomes so commonplace it doesn't even feel like belittlement anymore? That's like the polar opposite of progression of society. Not to mention the gradual psychological impact on both sides of that is undeniably nasty.

4chan very much doesn't care about progression of society, at times they even work against it, not out of ideological reasons but purely as entertainment or to see how easily they can manipulate groups or movements. Like the time they managed to make American social media, news, politicians etc believe the "OK" hand gesture was a secret racist symbol.
