That first cat having a heckin’ Flehmen response

When my 5 year old Rottie was first introduced to my sister’s firstborn, he was so excited. Esme was in a Moses basket on the floor. Obi desperately wanted to sniff her but knew he had to keep his distance. So instead he ran over to my sister with helicopter tail, buried his head in her lap and let out some whines of excitement. My sister cried.

#1 apparently when my older brother was a baby, our german shepherd would jump into the crib whenever he cried. so our parents had to be very careful not to leave the door open

My brother insisted on getting a dog for his girl when she was born (mom was Indian, from a culture where dogs aren't housepets, just unclean).
Having a pet is a good thing for kids, having that unconditional love when mom and dad yell at them. But the kids also learn about death early -- big downside.
Not all pets take to kids. Our Irish setter already had her world rocked by a new puppy that showed her she wasn't like us. She used to drag her food into the dining room to eat with us. when 1/2

When my sister brought home her baby, the setter went up, sniffed it, then huffed and walked off. It was just another annoyance in her world where she originally thought she was just another human. She had no idea why we kept bringing home these strays.
Our other dogs -- the part corgi mutt, the husky/German shepherd mix (big white wolf-looking beast), and the husky/black lab mix (one eye blue, one brown) loved or protected kids.

Boxers can be so great with kids! Apart from being relatively large and absolutely dumb. And I mean that in the best way! Boxers are my favorite! They're big clumsy huge-hearted goofballs that read emotions very well, and you can just SEE the gears in their heads turning. Perfect match for kid energy.

But they are meaty and throw paws, and usually aren't the best with spatial awareness. In the cot is okay, but out in the yard they can steamroll an adult!

So I would be cautious - but excited!

That video hurt me. My pitbull loved my niece and nephew so much. When they were around those were her kids. I truly believe she would have taken down a grizzly bear to protect her kids. I don't mean try either. I think she was that determined to protect them. I know she would have happily given her life for them. She was the best dog ever. Evidence of her being the best provided.
