Some of the knives I've seen taken from criminals is fucking wild. Like a zombie survival knife; which was a thick spiral blade.

I'd like to see a gun surrender bin here in the States. I could add to my collection.

Heard this story once about how they couldn't give away a free couch placed in driveway. Put $10 sign on it, stolen immediately

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Was that one of Karl Pilkington's stories? Sounds like something he'd say.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hah too true, no saw it on here somewhere or maybe reddit.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's like the cannabis disposal bin at the Canadian airports just before the departure gates.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Scissors?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Probably scrap lads nabbed em to weigh in.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Lol, there's not a knife in there worth stealing. Ooh, scary swiss army knife!

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Exactly, It is 99% likely it was stolen for scrap metal!

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Free knives! Genius.

Were the locks Made In Britian? v

4 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 1

I’ll just put it over here with the rest of the fire

4 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

why the fuck would you give up an opinel like that.

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Because British knife laws are stupid.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Instead of publicizing it, they should have thrown a few cool looking ones in with hidden GPS.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Man, as a Texan, I thought our policy makers were fucking dumb but this is like FLORIDA level dumb

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Asuch as it reads like a satirical piece it is, unfortunately, true.

4 years ago | Likes 188 Dislikes 2

There definitely ain’t one in Manchester…

r/nottheonion

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I absolutely would have done this, given any opportunity. Good knives are useful but pricey.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I am willing to put a large bet down that it was stolen for scrap metal value over everything else!

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Although it does kind of imply there's just one bin and all surrendered knives were stolen from it. Rather than the obvious truth that...

4 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

...a single bin in a wider scheme got broken in to before the contents had been safely disposed of

4 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

Or the equally silly idea that there are multiple bins, all being drained by criminals the police are powerless to stop.

4 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

well all the criminals have all the knives now, what else can the coppers do

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Have a gun fight

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Seemed like a good idea at the time…

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

A lot of things sound good before shit happens :)

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ok, #1 still a net win. Now only the criminals have weapons( that they had before anyways, nobody's gonna attack with 2-3 knives at a time)

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

#2 they more likely sold them off to non-criminals or just chucked them away if they're crap rather than re-using them for crime

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Fucking stop comparin knives to guns as the headline intends.. guns, if stolen, will be very.. extremely.. likely be reused for crime

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Knives on the other hand.. are resold as collectors items if they're a special brand or just dumped if they're scrap. They're not looting

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

The bins for weapons, they're looting them for value. Knives are literally sold on every street corner for pennies

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

You can get a fucking "stealth assault knife" shipped to you from china for about half a dollah shipping included from china

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

If this happened in Merica, conservatards would say, “They took my knives!!!!!!!”

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 3

The criminals would have shot the locks off before stealing them.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Several years ago, Worcester, Massachusetts tried to ban carrying a knife with a blade over 1.5 inches.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

In the UK it’s illegal to carry a bladed item over 3 inches in a public place

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Anybody remember that scene from Seven?

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

DEFEND THE 2nd and a half!!!!1!!1!!!!! (the 0.5 stands for knives)

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

You can take my butter knife my cold dead hands!

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Because that's what criminals do.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Perhaps the criminals installed the bins as well

4 years ago | Likes 654 Dislikes 1

And used a knife to break in.

Kinda like the Republican-placed postal voting bins in 2020?

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

I've been trying to start my criminal career for some time. If only could I find a knife.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You may be in luck

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Kinda like when I set up the "free drug testing" booth at the EDM festival.

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Yes, those were drugs. Oh shit.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

More like "yup these drugs are good, thanks!"

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Well, yes, but they prefer to be called the Conservative Party

It's not really like conservatives to be disarming people, but I know nothing of British politics so maybe I'm wrong here.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

It should be pointed out that knife crime is handled differently around the different countries, this will be from England ..if it's true.

4 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 3

Should also be noted that as much as people say knife crime in the UK is bad, it's still better per capita than the US.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

1/5th, almost. 1.2 vs 5.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Okay yes, but you are missing dome of the story there. The bin is set up near the knife angel sculpture. A sculpture that has been

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Made out of all the knives that have been used in violent crimes. The bin is there for people to surrender their weapons after seeing the

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Devastation it can cause

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's fucking stupid

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

It's art, nobody expects you to understand it.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Why would you ever need a 2 inch blade

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is the UK. If it isn't nailed down, it WILL be stolen. If it is nailed down, it will take a bit longer for someone to remove the nails.

4 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

What’s the story with all the scissors, scissors is illegal in UK now ?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oi, you got a loicense for 'at bin?

4 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 8

Oi, why you puttin your rubbish bin on mah property, don't make me call the council.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Technically a locked bin full of knives would be legal while a single pocket knife with a blade over 3 inches in your pocket is not

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I have for this one..

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

What do you mean "this one?"

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They’re depositing scissors now? Who in a sane world views scissors as a dangerous weapon?

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

I think they got that pic from an airport customs bin.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've seen enough movies to know a spoon is a deadly weapon.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

You haven’t met my mother’s family.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Scissors, kitchen knives, craft knives, multi-tools, a fucking Opinel for fucks sake.. Nothing in that image should be considered dangerous!

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Yeah to be perfectly honest with you, people try too hard to think it's weapons. I'd take a bat over a knife in a fight.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Lemme just show ye...

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Wipe the butter off them and put them away.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Good grief.....

That boggles my mind.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

.....those are butter knives.......welp that's just proof ya'll are fucked

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Why are there scissors and allen wrenches in the bin

4 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Concidering the police once put up a couple of spoons among "confiscated knifes" on a picture...

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Those cops might've played knifey-spoony before.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I assume its a stock photo?

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Could do a lot to stop knife crime by legalizing guns.

4 years ago | Likes 426 Dislikes 56

I'd love to see this introduced as a parody.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fellow American, how do you do?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There was an old lady who swallowed a knife...

USA had 1739 deaths caused by knife crime in 2021.

Also legalising nukes would prevent a lot of gun related violence!

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Guns are legal here, I own a pair.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And then stop gun crime by legalizing IEDs… wait, that might be too much.. or not…

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Or by giving the good guys knives! When someone goes on a mass stabbing spree, you want a good knife-wielding man there to stop em!

Which is why spears were more prevalent than swords in medieval armies.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Probably half the guys here already carry knives. How useful they'd be in a knife fight though, is debatable.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And that's the point

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not if America is anything to judge by. The US has more violent knife crime than the US per capita ON TOP OF all the gun crime

4 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

America is just better than the UK, the statistics don't lie! Lol

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Jesus, the US has more knife crime than the US? That must be a lot.

4 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

I just looked it up and the only ones with more are the US!

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Solve the gun crime by legalizing cannons.

4 years ago | Likes 70 Dislikes 2

Cannons are completely legal as long as they're a black powder design and the shell doesn't explode. Not even a tax stamp or surcharge.

Solve the rocket crime by legalizing space lasers

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I feel like we either skipped the unclear option, or somehow space lasers raining death from above are slightly better?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Personally I find the cannon more suitable for use as an artillery weapon. For CQC I use a musket as the Founding Father's intended

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Could I use a cannon loaded with grapeshot as a home defense weapon?

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sure.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Tally ho, lads!

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They are legal in several states. Just need to pay and get checked to own a "Destructive Device" and pay some extra taxes on it.

4 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 3

I need to save up and get an AA autocannon. 2 stamps but worth it for those pesky pigeons.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Expect the gun to cost in excess of $30k, and each round to be $20+

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

The one I saw at auction, twin Bofors 40mm with carriage, was 500k.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

224 knife deaths 2021 in the UK compared to 20,726 gun deaths 2021 USA. This includes 693 mass shooting incidents. Shameful

4 years ago | Likes 143 Dislikes 30

It is shameful. Those knife deaths are rookie rumbers. Gotta pump them up!

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Scary amount of gun crime in the UK these last couple of years

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

35 uk gun homicides in 2021. So approx 150 when prorated to US population size.

4 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 2

That definition of "mass shooting" makes 3 or more people injured a "mass shooting. The actual number per DOJ definition is under 40/year.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Consider the fact that England is about the size of Alabama when you use those numbers.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

Sure sure, but keep in mind more people live near Atlanta GA than live in the whole state of Alabama.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It should be noted that a mass shooting is considered to be 3 or more people.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

What are these numbers?! Per Capita bud.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Absolutely shameful! Those are rooky numbers

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Yeah, Brits got a lot of catching up to do

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

41,000 (selected) offences involving a knife or sharp instrument in England and Wales in year ending may 2021 Guns are just more efficient

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

sorry, ending march 2021*. anyway, more gun deaths in us because guns are better at killing, not for lack of trying w/ knives in the UK

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

The UK is a little smaller the the USA

4 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 5

Yes. Multiply the knife murder by 5. The US’s homicide rate is about 4.5 that of the UKs.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

A LOT smaller, but still 1/5 the population. More densely packed, so more irritable all the time too.

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Even multiplying the knife deaths by 5 scale population is still an insane difference. 1/10th our gun deaths.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Read the suicide points. Not even close to our homicides.

"But the highest form of intelligence" - Oscar Wilde --- At least finish the quote?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm not sure Americans realize how seriously other countries take an issue before it gets to the level Americans find perfectly acceptable.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Most of those gun deaths were suicides. https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/gun-deaths-by-country

4 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

Suicide by knife is way more complicated. Higher survival rate and less instant.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Poison and jumping to your death are more common when firearms are not an option.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's so much better. Thank goodness only sad people died...

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

It's a mental healthcare crisis, not a gun control issue. Resolve the mental healthcare problem, gun deaths will drop drastically.

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 6

Most other countries have shit mental healthcare yet orders of magnitude less gun violence.

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

This is true. There will still be plenty of gun deaths tho.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Gun deaths in 2021, per the CDC, broke down as 38,390 total deaths, of which 13,958 were homicides and 24,432 suicides.

4 years ago | Likes 70 Dislikes 3

It's way easier to shoot yourself because other people tend to run around.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

why would the Center for Disease Control be logging gun deaths? You got any o dat sauce?

4 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 5

Cdc is an epidemiology center it deals with a wide array of medical and social issues

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

The CDC considers it a public health issue. The data I assume they're referencing is here: https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/suicide.htm

4 years ago | Likes 55 Dislikes 1

A public health issue the gop made it illegal for them to study for prevention. They only log numbers.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Small errata though: data is from 2018, it was *published* 2021. The CDC tracks all mortality in the United States. Trauma, including 2/3
