It's a rather common sight in my neck of Germany that people pack their groceries at the car from the trolley into bags.
It's faster than having to wait for some old biddy taking forever to perfectly pack her stuff. Pack it somewhere else!
I pack into bags as they scan. By the time they're done I'm done, pay and leave. Why waste an opportunity to pack while waiting?

The look up codes, they still had numbers attached to prices, they just had to be hand entered.

It's the same in the US. They put your stuff into the cart of the previous customer, then your cart is used for the next after you etc.
This was also for Lidl in Finland, but we didn't like it, so they changed it to a more conventional line.

In Denmark only Aldi has zero space for groceries. Lidl are like the rest of our stores. Don't understand why aldi works like that xD

I prefer when the groceries just go into a compartment with a separator, then you can bag your stuff while the next customer's being served.

I have some bags that sit open across the trolley. You load into them at speed then lift them out, I can beat the ALDI cashier easily.

It's the same in the US. They put your stuff into the cart of the previous customer, then your cart is used for the next after you etc.

This was also for Lidl in Finland, but we didn't like it, so they changed it to a more conventional line.

This is exactly what I do. But doesn't chage the fact that I have to throw my groceries in the cart like mad to keep up with the cashier.

Huh, at my Aldi's the cashier puts the groceries in a cart for you. It's the previous customer's empty cart. Yours is then used next.
