I remember as an early teen, watching reruns of the Honeymooners with my dad. In one episode, they made reference to the icebox. My dad (born in 1932) told me all about how as a teenager in Queens NY, one of his jobs was hauling 25-50 pound ice blocks up several flights of stairs all day and loading them into the icebox. This post triggered a nice memory, thanks for sharing.

This is Harbin in China, the average daily temperature is −19.7 °C (−3.5 °F) in winter and they have harvested ice here for centuries. This ice is probably being cut for the annual Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival.
