A piece of my bedroom wall from my last drunk when I failed to negotiate a turn towards my bed.
I keep it as a vivid reminder ..... of someone I never want to turn into again. I feel lucky, to not only be sober, but to be alive.
Although my left me for about a year, she returned, and with her help, I remained sober. We've been together now for 25 years. Without her I may have been lost.
Sobriety is a long, hard rough road .... but WELL worth the trip.
If any of you are suffering from an addiction, I urge you to reach out to friends, family, doctor, AA or NA phone numbers .....
..... we all deserve a better life.

That’s a huge accomplishment and you should be proud of yourself for it. You’re doing good keeping it up too.
Thanks for sharing.

My partner has 15 years sober, and we are few months away from 35 years together. Proud of you!

Add to your list of resources 988. Dialing those three numbers will connect you to AA, NA, and tons of other options.

Great jarb! I like how the little grammatical errors make it look a little like you drunk posted this though.
LadyNaween
Very well done!!!! Proud of you.

Absolutely! I would NEVER had had the life I have today, had I not quit drinking on Dec 23, 1992. One day at a time.
NJCabinetGuy
..... doubt I would be alive if I kept drinking.

Going on seven years here. Waking up without self-hate and horrible headaches is the best part, a daily physical treat. And being able to just “handle” stuff- finances, appointments, jobs, other people’s schedules… all improved.
Congratulations, I hope to also reach seventeen years! I know I won’t drink, but I’ll be stoked to get ten more years of life.
BoppinAndJivin
Congrats my friend so much this! Also for me as time went on just not ever thinking about alcohol allows for so much more goodness to flow in and in return give out. Much love
HillOfBeans
You speak the truth. I lost my “meanness”; it’s there when really needed, but not as a daily defense.

Congrats! I'm coming up a month clean. I really need it to stick this time, I'm getting older and and I just don't know how much more I can take. Your post gives me hope, which I've just about lost. How's the cabinet business? I work for a small shop in NC.

January 2, 2026 = 5 years sober for me. This April marks one year without cigarettes too. Hilariously, despite 40ish years of drinking my liver to pickle stage, I miss cigarettes more. And they were harder to quit too. Had my first smoke at age 5 or 6, started for real when I was 14, and am shoving rather close to 60 now.
It was time, zero regrets.
HillOfBeans
Whatever it took, that’s a massive addiction for you to conquer! Double whammy. Congratulations, you!

29 years here. I think the best thing about being sober is the ability to just be happy!

Right there with ya buddy…like 14.7% of your total time, but still right there with ya.

I'm proud of you. 8 years for me. Alcohol almost killed me (pancreatitis).
CocaineAndSelfPleasure
I’m just about over a month in now. I promised myself a year. Not sure if that’s setting myself up to fail or not. But I’ll reevaluate then and see where I’m at.
Just turned 40 so it was definitely time and things were getting bad.
Feel great now, managed to navigate withdrawal without professional assistance and I’m staying clean on my own.
Wish me luck.

Congratulations, may the rest of your days pass by with strength and composure.

Thank You, I'm confident I'll be sober till death.

I'm suffering from an addiction now but I know if I turn to anyone or tell anyone I'll be labeled an addict for the rest of my life. The repercussions of that keep me from reaching out for help. I need it though.
phonoodle415
The ER was my go to. Went like 7 times for alcohol. Maybe more. But after each time they helped me get rid of withdrawal, i kept proving to myself i can stay sober. If you relapse, it's not really about you beating yourself up for it, rather you risk losing ppl you love. Addiction sucks.

My brother an I both are trying to recover. Nearly homeless living at moms. It’s rough when there’s no hope
