...so now you know.

Lived in Helsinki for the 2019 celebrations. Was great fun! Smaller scale events are elsewhere of course and they are delightful as well, but I'm happy I've been to the proper tori party.

That reminds me of the 7–1 match between Germany and Brazil and of the Football World Cup. This enthusiastic joy that unfolded in such a short time.

lol the finns like to reming the swedes that they lost 30 years ago by singing "det glider in" when we win

2 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

But one had to know the lore of the whole thing. Swedes were acting like little bitches and oozing superiority etc. u til Finnish won. It was the most glorious shut the fuck up ever. Swedes think Finnish owe they something because they colonised us for 100s of years.

To swiss people, all you needed to do is make one ( 1 ) goal.. oh well, maybe next time..

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That reminds me of the 7–1 match between Germany and Brazil and of the Football World Cup.

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How? It was 0-1 in sudden death?

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In 2014, Germany went wild as soccer World Cup champion.

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes I know, Germany dominated the entire game and scored a lot of goals. The Finland vs. Switzerland game, on the other hand, was evenly matched until the end.

Oi! As a Swiss person, I am honour-bound to point out that they did not have to beat that crazy of an opponent to take home the trophy. We're small and cuddly when it comes to hockey.

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'm confused. We just had the winter Olympics. Is like a euro league?

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Iihf world championships are a yearly event. "Skoda cup" by other name.

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a Finn, what are you talking about?! You have a phenomenal team! It’s only a matter of time you get to raise the trophy. Cheers!!

2 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Yup. I thought this would be the year for the Swiss. But seems the final has become a boogieman, your guys kind of stop playing your own game.. the one that took them to the final.

Double oy! (Fun story: I was once working at the main station in Zurich, and had a US tourist ask me how long I'd been living in Sweden. That man, if he had been asked, would have said he was in Sweden.)

Thanks for the kudos. We weren't too bad, considering we had to swap coaches last minute.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wow, nothing set on fire, no cars flipped over, no buildings destroyed, how remarkably remarkable

Everyone is tired and just want to go to sleep. Who the fuck thought it was a great idea to out finals so late?

This ain't Japan. There's plenty of stuff broken and tons of garbage thrown about by people.

Even the statue needs to be covered up to protect it from drunken idiots.

Finland might be pretty safe and relatively orderly compared to USA etc, but we're not Japan

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Soccer fans are 99% dumb people, 20% violent people. Aprox.

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

the statue has protection

I thought this was going to switch to Montreal after a non-championship win. Chaos

Need some Bostonians to show these losers how to PARTY

2 months ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 2

Came here to say the same

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

they grease poles in Philly so people don't climb them after one of our teams wins a championship

it doesn't always work, but it does keep out the weak climbers who are more likely to fall and die

2 months ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Bostonians need to see how much Vodka is consumed at these parties.

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It’s a party. Not a riot

2 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Have you not seen Paris? The people exchange in full motion.

Yesss i’ve seen what’s going on there. 800 arrested :D amazing!

No no my friend the one time Finns actually want to be near each other.

Besides, they value personal space too much to need such things legislated

If I didn't absofuckinglutely despise the cold so much, I would gladly move to Finland! I'm white... I am supposed to be naturally equipped for cold climes... All I do is simultaneously sweat and freeze my ass off!

I was in a store in Åbo with a friend of mine when I realized there were no employees, just a "back in 5" sign. I asked why people don't just steal everything. My friend, in all sincerity asked me "why would we?" The level of community is so dramatically strong in a country that only wants to be near another human when lots of liquor is involved is astonishing

2 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

To be fair that's also how small Dollar stores work

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Stop using the swedish names for places pls

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

🤔 but we were speaking swedish

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It also helps that stealing is wrong , not only morally but in the eyes of the law. And well atleast my generation was told to obey the law and officisls . Its hardwired to not take advantage of others. Of course this does not include everyone but thats how we were raised. I mean i'll give an exable when we were 17y me and friend found wallet on the street , we took 20€ and returned it to Police stadion, no other way about it. it restores bit faith in humanity when i read stories like this .
