She Made a Sandwich

Showing the burn at the South Pole

LOL, nice!

That's the best they could do? Make me a sammich? Stupid asses...

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

Holy fuck that is a level of spite we should all strive for.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

She's a fucking hero!

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

There better not be mayo on it.

6 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 21

Who would put mayo onthat tf

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

That’s enough burn to cause global warming down there....

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

v

6 years ago | Likes 305 Dislikes 7

Now that's a clap back

6 years ago | Likes 90 Dislikes 15

So woke

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 14

Good thing it's so cold there, that's some serious burn!!

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The Ted Talk referenced. https://youtu.be/eMXQ6ebbC1c

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Acknowledging trolls... Yup... You are really showin' them something...

6 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 28

Now we definitively know why the icecaps are melting. That burn!

6 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

Yes gurl.

6 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 4

This girl is such a badass. She’s my new hero!

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Good attitude

6 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 11

So she's 16 and can make a sandwich...

6 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 4

Underappreciated comment right here

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Has anyone else just never been comfortable with the spelling of sandwich?

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Sometimes when I overthink

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Um... No? Why?

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Never understood the whole "make me a sandwich" thing. Guys really ask for that? Personally, if you're offering, could you go get McDonalds?

6 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 3

If a man is going to ask me to make him something, a sandwich is setting the bar low. Any chump can make a pb&j

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Do you honestly not understand it? It's just tired misogyny: women should be in the kitchen rather than doing x. So original /s

You've not experienced Shakespeare until you've heard it in the Original Klingon.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

How does one become a 16 year old explorer exactly?

6 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 3

You need to train and you need to have funding.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Getting lost in style, though it helps to have a obscenely rich father.

6 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 6

Yes, because all the male explorers ever were entirely self-made, self-funded and never borrowed money from anyone else to achieve anything.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 11

You're putting so many words in my mouth here it's not even funny.

6 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 3

Then why the need to mention her dad's money being used? How many people have had to find outside funding for exploration and research?

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 8

Because it.. helps. It's a lot easier as a 16 year old to find money required for a polar expedition when dad can just flip open his wallet>

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

Yea, I think the joke was the definition of what an explorer is

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

...what joke

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

That's the fake pole for tourists and diplomats. The real one is a ways away from the base.

6 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 4

AFAICT the reflective globe is AT the geographic south pole. Amundsen base is 300m from SP according to WIP. Is it that distance referenced?

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I've been there. The pole pictured is the ceremonial south pole. There is a different pole nearby which marks the actual geographic (1)

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

pole, but it has to be moved each year to account for the ice movement. (2)

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thanks for clarifying. How far are we talking, approximately? 10m/year is 5-600 meters, I'm guessing.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Found this after, which mentions 30ft/year, which makes more sense now https://atlasobscura.com/places/the-ceremonial-south-pole-antarctica

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm betting it's frozen tho

6 years ago | Likes 268 Dislikes 2

I hate when the bread gets all cold

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ah, let it go

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

*snow

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

at least that means it'll remain 'fresh' enough to each by the time you get there in 20 years

6 years ago | Likes 57 Dislikes 1

To each their own

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

yeah yeah. stupid typo. dunno why I've been doing that lately; typing a completely different yet similar word. usually catch 'em, but meh

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Was just about to say the same thing

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Yup. Preserved for whoever comes to claim it. Granted, kept at something like -30 or -40 degrees, I'm not sure it's going to be edible.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Lolwut.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A sandwich left out in the middle of Antarctica will quickly transform into a frozen lump of dubious nutritious value. Won't spoil, tho.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How so? Wouldn’t the nutrients be perfectly preserved? Where would they go?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Actually, yes, you're right. I had a brain lapse there. But it'll still probably be less than pleasant to eat even when you thaw it out.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Looks like Jade really is a... ...ham meister.

6 years ago | Likes 857 Dislikes 4

Is that what set off the jokes on her tedx? (BTW I mean if being on tedx wasn't enough flex...).

Aaaaaaaaaaooooww!

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Brilliant

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

6 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Fuuuuuuck. @ExtraUpvote hook em up for me please. This is quality.

6 years ago | Likes 65 Dislikes 1

Wait! Does tagging @ExtraUpvote actually work? This is amazing!!

6 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

It works if you believe.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Literally and figuratively feeding the trolls.

6 years ago | Likes 2110 Dislikes 14

Maybe I need to tell her to ignore them? She seems to listen to suggestions

6 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

Lol. Post pics if it works.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It just dawned on me that she’s standing upside down on the earth

6 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

As an Australian, she probably knew to bring her ground-harness.

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Oxymoronically burning and freezing them at the same time.

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

i mean... so many men died to get to the south pole. And, like, the third woman makes a sandwich there. Women rock.

6 years ago | Likes 135 Dislikes 7

Excuse me for withholding my astonishment at a rich kid whose dad paid for a crew to take her on an expedition several times.

6 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

I think thats a hard claim to make when the lads were doing it back 100 years ago. That includes equipment that's a century behind hers

6 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

Not to mention that they were crossing terrain that had never been traversed before. It's still not something to be laughed at but nothing/1

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

compared to what Scott had to go through

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Don't get me wrong. I'm twice her age and have never done anything half as impressive. But feeding the trolls just legitimizes them.

6 years ago | Likes 52 Dislikes 7

1) are you at the South pole? (2)...

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

No, but what does that have to do with anything?

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Nah, what they want is for the target to rage or have a breakdown or something. But this makes the trolls look like the dumbasses they are.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

She's not feeding them, she's leading them to their deaths.

6 years ago | Likes 59 Dislikes 1

She forgot the chips though. /sigh

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In order for to feed them, they have to redeem themselves by reaching the sandwich.

6 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

A man can dream.

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

So it worked

6 years ago | Likes 408 Dislikes 33

6 years ago | Likes 140 Dislikes 4

Wow, good skiing skills, bro

6 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

v

6 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 2

It did. Now go get it

6 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 5

Having someone make one doesn't imply intentions of eating it

6 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 8

That's an ultimate power move

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh I'm already full because it took her so long.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Now someone go to the North Pole with a sandwich, put both on the ground, and make a Double-Decker Earth Sandwich

6 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 0

Found the Round Earther!

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Small issue...there is no ground at the North Pole.

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Wouldn't it technically be a triple decker ?

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

I prefer my sandwhiches without so much crust.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, but once you get to that hot inner liquid, it's worth it

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Damn, that was good!

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Make me a sandwich is a battle cry shouted by all the neckbeards too insecure to actually talk to a woman the right way.

6 years ago | Likes 116 Dislikes 17

What if I'm at a subway or Jimmy John's?

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Don't follow the demand with a derogatory

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Or people who think they're really funny https://xkcd.com/322/

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Speaking as a neckbeard, I'll make my own damn sammiches, thank you very much! ... I know how I like them...

6 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 4

Salted with your own bitter tears?

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

Boarshead salami and mild provolone on tomato and basil. Dry, maybe with a bit of lettuce.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Fair enough. You should give Lebanon Bologna a try; it's got bit more tang.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And if your mom forgets to cut off the crusts, there'll be hell to pay!

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

I totally would, but I don't like ham and cheese. That's the only reason I'm not going to do that. I could. Shut up.

6 years ago | Likes 243 Dislikes 8

Everyone likes ham and cheese.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 13

Not very popular in the Middle East

6 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

.... Well this is awkward...

6 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 2

My dad was not in very good health and in his 60s at the same time I was moving across country for a job and had to go on steroids.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I solemnly looked at him and said I am sorry dad that sucks its going to disqualify you from the Olympics this year. He let out a good

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

ole loud fatherly barrel laugh. Don't worry Im not trying to get you too chop onions the good man is in better health and still kicking.

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Still hasn't made it to the Olympics haha but maybe next year.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

My first question... funding?

6 years ago | Likes 49 Dislikes 4

It's just a sandwich, they're not that expensive.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

v

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Having super rich parents lets you be more adventurous and smug than the rest of us.

6 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 2

Her father is obscenely rich. Money is the kind of thing plebs worries about.

6 years ago | Likes 70 Dislikes 4

hm, this explains so much if not everything about this post. "I didn't have real problems so I had to invented them

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 4

She could have made more sandwiches then

6 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

Wow how brave, much feminism, she sure showed them!

6 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 10

Why is this your first question? I'd ask if the sandwich is 37 days old or did she just make it.

6 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Lol

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

well look at the climate so, that sammich will keep literally forever now

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Liquid still evaporates (sublimates) when frozen, so it'll be stale as fuck. But you're technically correct it'll then last a very long time

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Girl: Accomplishes something really fucking impressive. Internet commenter: YEAH BUT SOMEONE ELSE PROBABLY HELPED HER!!!

6 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 21

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

That trip cost around 100k$, so yeah when a teenager does it, you gotta ask who financed it (dad in this case).

6 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 2

Then at the same time gets pissed at girls her age at Oliva Jade or whatever that girls name that got bought into UCLA.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'll choose her or a Greta any day

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

OMG, you criticized a girl. You obviously would never have done that to a male. Yes, we fucking would.

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 5

You know there wouldn't be nearly this volume of criticism if the post didn't have something to do w/ sexism. Imgur's jimmies were rustled.

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

Honestly if it was a 16 yo boy doing that, I'd think the exact same thing. Most people would haha chill out

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

The old adage “Never assume malice when negligence will suffice” does not apply to the Imgur community.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I mean, assuming she skied 8 hours a day she averaged just over 2km an hour or 1.25 mph. That’s not exactly earth shattering and shows 1/2

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 11

That the limit is most likely the ability to be out there 37 days (money) and not any special skill or stamina.

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 11

Alright bud. Let me know when you've done something even remotely similar and tell me how easy it was.

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 6

... I run ultramarathons on a semi-regular basis.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 6

"16 year old explorer" means "my parents have stupid amounts of money for me to live a life most never will, then rub it in everyone's face"

6 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 10

To be fair, I would too. Minus the rubbing part.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Such wisdom could only come from the depths of Mom's basement. Victory is yours, bruh! https://imgur.com/VE7z4dz

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 19

why people hate hearing the truth? Then resort to stupid internet assumptions. She's a spoiled kid, 99% of folks can't afford that life.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

A win's a win..

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Well, unless she got carried to the south pole in a climatized sedan chair, the money, that allowed her to do this is not that important.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 7

She did it, and she did it the same way as the other scientists there.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

I'm not saying she didn't do it. I'm saying 99.9999% of people aren't doing this, let along at 16. $$ ( and other) barriers.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0
