Except it isn't quite corporate America, its the investors after rulings that a corporations moral, ethical, and legal responsibility to make their investors ever more and more unlimited profit.
Currently, 8 Billionaires nominated for Trump's team. The other 20 are in the 50-100M ballpark minimum for asset range. Do you think you will be working to make your life better? Is this what you wanted?
Capitalism is based on increasing year over year profitability, leaving less and less money for the working class. That's just how it works, get used to it.
This is a generation AFTER the French Revolution, mind, and depicts the ravenous hunger of King Louis-Philippe I. Daumier, his publisher, and his printer were fined and jailed for these and other caricatures.
Corporate greed isn't the special part. Human greed is awe-inspiring enough.
Corporate law is what allows individual human beings to go this far, kill so many and steal so much, to bring so much suffering for their own profit, without being murdered in the street like dogs. It was ALWAYS meant to obfuscate risk in business, since the East India Trading Company invented it to cover losses they could never hope to pay back.
It's not just "the rich" being greedy; the system of neoliberal capitalism we've constructed has actively incentivized bad behaviour. It rewards hurting people and punishes compassion. We built a system that can only cause destruction. Even if every 1%er got executed, the foundation we've built society on will necessarily replace them because that's what it was designed to do.
This isn't a "problem", this is the system we built working as it was designed to work.
Exactly correct. Though clearing out the main parasites who drive this catastrophic engine is a good start from the perspective of having sufficiently unfettered access to the engine itself for a complete dismantling.
One of the things that drove many of the wealthy to support FDR's New Deal was the threat of a violent Communist revolution during The Great Depression. Of course there were many oblivious wealthy people who had managed to insulate themselves from their fellow citizens to the point they did not believe there was any threat to their well-being and wealth. These people immediately undertook the work to repeal The New Deal. Work that continued till you have the nation cheering the death of a CEO
Ancaps have learned. Most ancaps you talk to still support the existence of a government, its just that the only thing that government has the power to do is 'maintain the peace', IE stop poor people from revolting against the rich. Naturally this is funded exclusively through taxes... On the poor.
It's basically correct. During the time between 1860 and 1929, and particularly 1930-1938 there were a few instances of violence against the owners of companies, and the company buildings: that was mainly in response to the use of National Guard and Federal troops, multiple 'detective agencies', and the overall murders of striking workers.
Historically, when violence comes home to roost against the rich, things tend to get settled, FAST... is all I'm saying
I agree. However. Hear me out. I want to sell cupcakes. ( hypothetical ). I make my own cupcakes. Business is booming. I cannot make them al myself. I need someone to help me. After a while, I have 50 ppl working in my shop. I do paperwork, buy ingredients and goods, I pay my workers well. After a while I get someone to do that for me. I get to enjoy from my early work. Suddenly i'm the devil for doing nothing of value anymore in the company. Do I share *all* profits with my 50 workers?
The model of eternal growth is clearly unsustainable. Not only corporations directly but the stock market itself are to blame, with the everlasting search for greater shareholder value. Not being an economist, I have no solutions... how does one stamp out human greed?
You don't. Capitalism was a huge experiment into actually harnessing it to make everyone's future brighter. You'd do what society needed done, individually and as a whole, because it's what would bring you wealth & comfort.
Problem is... every experiment needs rules. Someone - usually someone with the threat of insurmountable force, like taxpayer-funded police & military - has to enforce the rules. Otherwise, wealth tends to think it MAKES the rules into whatever Wealth wants them to be...
Well, Elon already said a long time ago that the American workforce is lazy compared to the factories in China, and he thinks people should work 12 hour shifts. So not far off from selling your body.

Exactly this. So it has ever been, and so it shall ever be. Unless we tax the rich the way we did before Ronald Reagan.
