I used to ride or die XMMS https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XMMS

6 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You just took me back to a simpler time.

6 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Well, a LOT of internet has been here before it...

6 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Bass up, treble down. Good balance.

1 week ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

This eq curve would sound terrible on any system. 600hz isn’t even bass. It’s low-mids. Boosting those will sound boxy and muffled. Even worse dumping all the highs also. This is objectively unbalanced

Still rock 2.0 to this day. Check out this (one of many) sweet Alice skin.

I had a visceral reaction when saw this post.

5 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I loved the propellerheads!

2 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fuck yeah, Propellerheads were so fucking good. If you haven't heard of them, check out their song History Repeating (guest starring Shirley Bassey)

Winamp on my 486 with the turbo button set to 66. Heck ya!

1 week ago | Likes 118 Dislikes 0

How I long for those days.

6 days ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

6 days ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Ah yes the ol turbo button that clocked everything down and made it slower. Miss those days lol

6 days ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Did that source code get released ? I’d love to see the workings

6 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It did, it was a hilarious epic disaster, and it's still floating about. It's c++ working just above the Win32 switch statement of doom level. Doxygen can help but it's a bit unwieldy. https://github.com/manfromafar/winamp/tree/community/Src/Winamp

6 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Cool! Thanks - I guess I could’ve googled it. But thanks !!😊

2 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm still writing plugins for Winamp...

6 days ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Which one is that?

Still use it lmao, with the default skin because I can't find ones for the latest workaround for a working version

6 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I miss Winamp!!

6 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Chicka-pow.... Doo doo dododo dooduhdoo

6 days ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

If you want more modern open source software that has a mode with the same interface and skins, check out Audacious. For Windows, Linux and MacOS. https://audacious-media-player.org/

6 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Your link is dead.

6 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Works for me.

5 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hm.. it does now. Site must have been down. Thanks (a day late) ;-)

5 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No worries. Hope the app works well for you if you try it.

4 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That screen cap is from my computer what the fuck

1 week ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I do love winamp still, but im a whore for customizations, so foobar2k has been my goto for 20 years now.

6 days ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I really wanted to like that one but nothing comes close to how powerful winamp's media library system is.

6 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Its library system is better than winamps, HOWEVER, you actually have to customize it to be so, its not out-the-box easy, its got a steeeep learning curve.

right there in the bg while playing Diablo II Lord of Destruction :/

6 days ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

D2R is actually pretty decent, and even has a button to switch to original graphics.

6 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I still use it! Used it yesterday to edit some Id3 tags on some totally legal files.

6 days ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

I too listened to the Matrix soundtrack on repeat via winamp lol

6 days ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Good playlist right there

1 week ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Just missing Du Hast

6 days ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

STill use it.

its very light on the system and works for it purpose. to much software is overly bloated

6 days ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I've seen no need to use something else, it works.

6 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

https://getwacup.com/ actively maintained with some improvements but otherwise perfect replica of winamp given it uses some of the same libraries. The developer behind the project is the same person that wrote the original enhanced media library plugin. Also it is free.

6 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

this, WACUP is fantastic

6 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

https://webamp.org - To play around with online without installing!

6 days ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 0

Whose playlist is this, and can I set up something like this on the site for those of us who still live in the distant past the way people set up Spotify playlists?

6 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Why would anyone want this when you can dload and install the full version? It is wild to me how many people are easily coerced out of their personal data by just putting stuff online that shouldn't be online.
Winamp got big before everything and your toaster needed Internet connections to function. It offers much better privacy and control over your data than anything online.

6 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

I already have WinAmp. I was just thinking about modern "mix tapes".

6 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hahaha! Thanks, so damn cool! Kind of like a remote desktop!

6 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What would that offer? Consider me a dinosaur who was happy to get back to a desktop, and has podcasts at hand.

Thanks - I do want to learn if there are better, more interesting options out there.

6 days ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

Some of the MP3s I have on shuffle whenever I break out WinAmp have to be over 20 years old at this point. I don't need better options.

6 days ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

https://publishing.steagus.com/software/abisam/
This product isn't out yet but it definitely seems close. There's a live "demo" on the page and from the FAQ/Guide it seems pretty robust with features.
Looks like it's channelling the spirit of the llama also. I've been watching it for the last month or so and there are occasional updates. The Beta stuff went up a little over two weeks ago but still no download files. I check back occasionally.

6 days ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Eh, Winamp was (and still is) free. And isn't just for Mac.

6 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That just gives an error page. Nothing specific, just "Something went wrong."

6 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Works for me.

5 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Okay, I guess it was just down yesterday.

5 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I still use Winamp to this day. Love all the skins for it.

6 days ago | Likes 104 Dislikes 0

6 days ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I don't use skins, but Winamp is still my to-go music player.

6 days ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

You kinda have to on modern resolutions (if you use the classic versions).

6 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I downloaded that skin back in the day! Back then I used a Final Fantasy 6 "Shadow" skin. I still use it as well, but these days I use this skin:

6 days ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Nice. I used to use an Oh! My Goddess skin, but this is the one I use most nowadays.

6 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Excellent Anime.

6 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

6 days ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I had that one back in the day!

6 days ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Me too, but my main go to was a Mega Man skin.

6 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I am a massive Zelda nerd, like my 3DS is a zelda themed one, as is the carrying case I have for it. I have a triforce Tattoo, my phone background is the Hylian Standard. LttP was the last game I got to really play with my uncle before he passed away so that particular game has a ton of meaning for me on a personal level.

6 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nice, Always rocked a Gundam skin

4 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I miss my old favourite skin, Blueberries and Cream, can't find it any more.

6 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I love how many they've managed to keep archived here. https://skins.webamp.org/

6 days ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

they still make new ones too

6 days ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I made so many skins back in the day. Sadly, they're lost to time...

6 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Any of them archived? https://skins.webamp.org/

6 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Damn, that site didn't have my favorite, but google actually found it! https://winampheritage.com/skin/halloween2003/136634

6 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't think I uploaded any of them (could be wrong, though), and even if I did, I don't know if I'd recognize them, haha. I did browse a bit, but couldn't see anything.

I'd prove you wrong, but I misplaced my llama

1 week ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Here’s a llama. There’s a llama. And another little llama. Fuzzy llama. Funny llama. Llama llama, duck.

6 days ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Most of the llamas I've ever met have been pretty ill tempered. Perhaps winamp is to blame.

1 week ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I still have my vintage WinAmp shirt. It is mostly wearable but I need to find someone talented to shore up the holes so it doesn't get worse.

6 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Brothers, I have betrayed you. I just run Youtube in the background these days.

But the enshittification is really getting up there so it's leaning towards making MP3s out of those videos again. I can't go on a 1 hour walk without being interrupted.

6 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

take a look at plexamp, download those YouTube videos as mp3s and then stream then to yourself

6 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nah I'm good, gonna stay old school and just... put the MP3s on the device. :P
