I hope she sues them for arrest.
simonsaysabunchofstuff
He was 'just following orders'
Where have we heard that before ?
MarsIsAfire
"He was just doing what he was told to do." lol now he's the police chief? That's the opposite of accountability.
phalanxausage
Like a lot of us, I have become so used to hyperbolic and misleading headlines or summaries that I I'm skeptical and dismissive of headlines such as this. However, the reality of this situation is just as bad as the various headlines I've seen. This wasn't a police force, it was a brute squad.
RElGNMAN
The moment I read TEXAS...
lickwidghost
The thing I'm most shocked by is there's a town called Trinidad in Texas. Why hasn't it been renamed to Little America or Mussolini yet?
IGotMyDreamJobProgrammingGames
No one hates freedom of speech like republicans
NothingPrince
Wtf is wrong with the US there is nolonger fredom of speach

Banana republic
Larktonguesinadicecup
Can't afford bananas in this economy
trasneoir
The next day, Trinidad police arrested a supporter of Combs for misdemeanor disorderly conduct after he displayed a “fuck bad cops” placard outside city hall. That charge was also later dropped.
On the face of it, that's a 1A violation so obvious it could actually cut through qualified immunity.
dmTim
I’m pretty sure these actions are the result of the Uvalde Strong Act which went into effect in Jan 2026: https://www.tcole.texas.gov/document/briefing-january-2026.pdf

diezl97
I've met her in Virginia she's real.
indyliberal
Is there even cursory training?
iamthemurray
Ha, no more easy job with power for the psychos to abuse. Theyll all get transfered but if their shit was that horrible to have to shut down, hope all those pigs get put on a blacklist. (Probably will only be because of how much of a "we'll get sued" risk they are)
VulcanTourist
The people in that department look like meatheads.
MyCommentsUsuallyHaveTypos
That raised eyebrow just screams "You used to pick on me because I was the fat kid, now, look, I'm the chief of police and can lord over you all".
Necrothean
Judge who signed multiple of their warrants: "Well, I never! They lied to me at every turn! I swear, I am the victim here! I do declare!"
Prosecute them all. Force them out of Law Enforcement. They obviously can't handle having responsibility.
LibertyNcognito
This is exactly what needs to happen. Every single person involved needs to do some time. Until start making the people who do shit like this face actual meaningful consequences nothing will ever change
Timetoupdatemyusername
This happened in the US, so they will all get promoted instead.
SJBSavageInk
I'm wondering how it even went from her being arrested to them proving they weren't incompetent. Because I feel like that's important information for us.
Mirrormancer
Magjee
The made for TV edit of this movie had him say to the Predator: "You are one ugly MOTHER FATHER!"
bbrtki
I dont understand,.
She was arrested, but the PD shut down? why does this headline make so little sense?
PineappleLoopsBroether
Maybe it was written by a moron
LibertyNcognito
It was written ABOUT morons, not BY a moron. You may need to work on your reading comprehension and critical thinking skills.
PineappleLoopsBroether
I actually meant like it was a third draft and could be a typographical error where an edit was written but not patched at the back end to smooth it out.
My first comment was that it might be written by chatgpt but it’s not 2023 anymore and we don’t get as many of those, so I picked moron instead.
Not trying to piss you or Imgur off
kojenk
Its clear. The PD got shut down for arresting her over this.
textilelover
She got arrested for no legal reason. That false arrest led to the PD being shut down. Not sure what is unclear.
tinyfootprints
That article never says what the woman was charged with for posting about dirty water.
Elkarlo1977
There is a link inside https://www.fox4news.com/news/woman-arrested-facebook-post-concerning-trinidad-water-poisoning " The Trinidad Police Department, in an Apr. 6 Facebook post of their own, said Combs wrote "false information that creates fear, panic, or unnecessary emergency response within a community." "
tinyfootprints
If that were a crime, then Fox News should be arrested every hour of every day.
tinyfootprints
Thanks.
UnluckyLunkhead
The reason being given is that there were no policies regarding many areas such as pursuits, active shooters etc. Dude, just telephone another town and copy/paste theirs.
TimVergeer
Why is that even a local issue? This should be a state or federal issue.
I'm sorry America, until you start organising your police in a more centralised manner, you keep having these problems.
I'm from The Netherlands and frankly, local police units don't get to decide their own policies. Same for equipment. You won't find a local unit choosing and buying an armored vehicle.
UnluckyLunkhead
Really, I have no idea. But according to the source that was the official excuse given. And if the boss says you need some nonsense written down, write some nonsense down.

ChiLLeCheeze
You have policies to tell you to wash your hands after using the bathroom. Sit your ass down on the toilet and stop smearing shit everywhere.
ReaperCDN
We didn't think we'd need a policy to tell people not to go around coughing all over other people, wash their hands, and maintain some distance, but hey COVID fucking happened and it turns out half the population IS COMPLETE FUCKING MORONS WHO NEED A STEP BY STEP PROGRAM TO DRAW A TRIANGLE.
HaberdasherInGold
It takes exactly one poop-filled sink to cause a "poop in the toilet" policy.
UnluckyLunkhead
Government departments probably do have such policies. Welcome to 2026.

VictusVonGuyver
It's nice they followed Camden NJ's example. The city improved a lot after they shut down the entire police department and retrained from scratch.
duoplicity
That's the type of water that leaves you dirtier after you take a bath.

"Just following orders" wasn't enough for the Nuremberg trials, why would it be enough now?
FlintNorth44
Because the trials only happened AFTER the Allies WON the war. How do people not understand this yet?
Grimmrog
And it only happened to the losers.
Zeterai
Right. At the moment, especially in Texas, the Nazis are the ones running the trials.
Me1iss0
People never take history seriously, if they ever learn about the Nuremberg trials in rural American schools. I know bc I went to a rural school in North Carolina and they tried to skip a bunch of stuff I ended up learning in college and beyond. Hope that helps you all understand what we are up against here- to a degree. The stupid is real and big and loud as fuck. They will not shut up and stop making back choices- like electing pedo shitler again.
We gotta fix this ourselves guys
tokenhooker
I took Holocaust as a class in 8th grade in Michigan, but it was an elective, so you only went of you chose it over something like shop or gym.
RevRagnarok
Yep; came to post that exact quote: " He was just doing what he was being told to do. "
PowerThruster
Hilarious, they're blaming the previous leaders? Like anyone believes the police chief was the one out there doing all the arrests? God damn police really are stupid if a whole department can only come up with that.
JBloodthorn
The new chief was actually out doing the controversial arrests (at least 2), before he became chief.
RevRagnarok
"Just following orders." defense too. 🙄 Specifically: " He was just doing what he was being told to do. "
PowerThruster
Fair enough. Suppose I should have said the only one.
JBloodthorn
It was a good comment though. You just inadvertently pointed out that it was even worse than common sense would allow.
DongleDingler
"He didn't want to bend his integrity, but he wasn't the chief at the time. He was just doing what he was being told to do. And look at where we're at today." said the current police chief's wife. Precisely. Look. At. Where. We're. At. Today.
Flooferdoof
Now he doesn’t have a job OR integrity
m4uboy
"he was just doing what he was being told to do." and THAT my friends, is why ALL cops are bastards.
livingonagiantfireball
I was shooting cops cause i was told to do it, not my fault, was just following order from my boss, thing it would hold in court?
JBloodthorn
Said with her whole body. No critical thought detected.
DianNaoChong
The apathetic core of America is it's downfall along with it's religious psychosis kicking things off
TopBananna999
That is the excuse that Nazi soldiers used at the trials in Nuremberg. “I was just following orders” like they had no choice.
m4uboy
yep. they were bastards too.
Grimmrog
Soldiers? You mean major participants of the system.
DongleDingler
Yea, that's exactly how I read her quote too
ParallelParkingInABurka
Damn, if TEXAS calls a town unfit to operate their own polive department, you know it must have been unimaginably bad.
Arbitrarynamehere
Also a white lady did it
Elkarlo1977
She is running a Federal Lawsuit against the down for Political Retaliation. Which means that if the State of Texas don't show that the investigated the Police Department of the town, they will suffer as well. So throwing 5 Officers under the Bus is what they do.
swedeonamoose
You know you have hit some new types of smal town corruption when it goes that far.
ButtscratchMcPherson
Been following this story for a bit... Makes me curious on what other crap the investigators found and haven't released.
Goldensands
georgejimmydoodle
It was more likely a liability insurance carrier that made the call.
ParallelParkingInABurka
Aha!
perseco
Nah, the state has been cracking down on towns that are too small to operate a separate police department when the county sheriff department is more than sufficient. Several other towns had their PD taken away too because it was just wasted spending with no benefit.
bekkayya
so so so so so bad that they'd rather completely bury it and have us celebrate it as a win rather than ever investigate the extent
SlippeyPetey2000
That's a good point
MyCommentsUsuallyHaveTypos
It takes tax dollars to investigate and correct. Bottom line. Yes, they will absolutely bury it and force the bad cops out of town because it's simply cheaper.
shehdbeuebw738373
and those cops will never get jobs anywhere else /s
MyCommentsUsuallyHaveTypos
The state should be revoking their law enforcement licenses. "Piss poor management" is not a good look for a potential officer, regardless of rank.
migratingotter
Problem is they don’t get licensed. They should. And they should have to do continuing education on the law and constitutional rights. Like everyone in the medical field. Like beauticians. Think teachers also have to.
