Ive heard sometimes they wont renew a show because the network doesnt want to pay the actors requested salary increases. Any truth to that?

Depends. Either the show becomes too expensive, contracts inflate, or the execs want dirt cheap, ad-friendly productions, sitcom/dramas etc.

Yes actually that is pretty common depending on the amount, which means that the salary increase must have been pretty substantial.
