That's just what they call "buffering". You put the motion inputs in, and if you're confident, you put the button in. If you want to fake, you can buffer a few times to see if they'll swing (giving you recovery frames to punish) or throw a late button in and check your opponent's reaction. It's a perfectly legit part of fighting games. You're right, but there's more to it than telegraphing... I don't think you should have gotten downvoted. Cheers!

Rolling Stone article specifically states that he baited him into it. I think people are thinking I'm insulting him. It's a very impressive feat, especially since he had to guess when to start, but it didn't just fall out of the sky.

The wiki page says each parry has a 6-frame window. But that's still hugely impressive, especially considering the initial parry needs to be done in anticipation of the Super Art, rather than in reaction to it.

You do need to throw the first parry before that screen flash at the beginning of the thing, you need to have the hard read on your opponent throwing the super before game tells you you need to be doing the thing.

He also did something that at the time was considered "just undoable" the assumption was that people simply couldn't do it, and then someone did it, and now its "you must be this tall to ride". Same with "the insec" which was once this mythical move in league of legends and now its "if you cant hit those consistently and reliably, don't play lee sin, just don't"

That high kick is the last hit of the super. Getting the jump parry to land a more damaging jump-in starter is still very clutch, though.

To add one more bit - a full party of Chun Li's super had never been seen in competitive play at that time. So you had someone pulling an exceedingly difficult competition first combo parry on a sliver of health in the 3rd round of a very tough match. Given the microphone quality of the time, I can't imagine how loud that cheer actually was.

You already got a description, but to add numbers: to avoid losing, Daigo had to block within a 0.1 second window 15 times in a row, and the first had to be pressed before his opponent actually started their move, forcing him to predict when his opponent would do so to within 0.1 seconds, and then keep up the perfect timing for all 15 hits. In the final round of the semifinal of a major tournament.

One of my favorite things too is how ridiculous doing a parry is. Normally to block you just hold away from your opponent. But to parry, you have to not be doing anything, flick TOWARDS the opponent, and press a button. So every parry hes pressing towards chun li and a button, then releasing everything over and over at the exact timing. Even crazier is the last hit is too high for standard parry to reach, so he has to JUMP AND PARRY IN THE AIR. Absolute masterful work.

You can see their life bars on the top. The guy in red (Ken) is almost dead, while Chun Li has plenty of health left. ChunLi player tries to clench the victory with a super which even when blocked normally can do a bit of damage and would have been enough to take Ken down with normal blocking. The block Ken did requires millisecond level timing to input and doing it for every kick and then launching his counter is the stuff of legends and required godlike reflexes and skill.

It was a new feature that wasn't well considered at the time, this event changed that view
