I've had social anxiety all of my life and I guess I never had the chance to develop proper social skills. I knew something was wrong with the way I interacted with people but I didn't think they were annoyed by me. When I talk to people they always seem to be having a good time. We laugh together and smile together and talk about doing stuff together but then they never talk to me again. My dad says I talk too much but I feel like I hardly ever get to talk, he and my stepmom are the ones always talking. I don't know, I just thought my life was getting so much better and that i was finally moving past all the bullshit I'd been dealing with since I was little. It's all the same though, i'm just an annoying kid people don't want hanging around.

Sounds like a bunch of cunts.

Your family sounds nice...
stoutde
You probably are doing better. You've finally got your anxiety under control so you're just starting to experiment with dealing with people.
stoutde
Everyone is bad at it at first. Check out all the kindergarteners who piss each other off for no reason.
Baltzdelirium
Well... Talking too much is relative. Might just not like what your saying lol
cuttysark
You are your upbringing. Find a good therapist, they can help.
ProbablyBigfoot
My therapist is actually really mad at them because she feels like they might have undid a bunch of progress I'd made.
R100GSPD
Well, are you annoying?
ProbablyBigfoot
Idk, people on the internet seem to like me ok but in real life I'm pretty lonely.
grizel
Tell them they're a bunch of morons.
ProbablyBigfoot
Thats what my therapist said. She also said she wanted to squish them like bugs because they undid all the work she put into building me up.
Randomice
Your family have horrible social skills and probably have no friends cause they are annoying.
ProbablyBigfoot
They have lots of friends.I understand what they're saying but im confused by it. How can I talk less when I barely talk at all around them?
ColdSquirrel
It's possible you talk less around core family because your use to them bring the "adults" but around others you can be free & that's why?
DaMaester
Fuck'em, do what feels right. Eventually you'll attract the kind of friends that don't mind.
ThrashAndChemistry
At least they were honest w/you? I'm not joking; I wish young me was told bluntly, repeatedly to tone it down & not be so extra all the time
ProbablyBigfoot
I just don't know how to follow their advice. I dont feel like I talk that much and I dont know how I'm supposed to interact with people -->
ProbablyBigfoot
if I dont talk to them a little. I know listening is more important but I can't listen unless I ask them something first, right?
ThrashAndChemistry
More or less, yeah. I'm the wrong person to give advice on this, I mostly learned to be ok w/my own company & when I start a conversation...
ThrashAndChemistry
2. To start off with subjects immediately at hand, especially by asking questions. Not perfect, but it gets me by.

My friend, sounds like you may be the victim of gaslighting. Clearly, I don’t know your situation, but I hope you can give yourself a break.
ProbablyBigfoot
I think they mean well but I think they're only seeing me when I'm outside of my comfort zone and basing their judgments on that as opposed>
ProbablyBigfoot
To when I'm in my comfort zone and more in control of the situation. They just don't see me interact with people I like that often.
Eddiemodo
Sounds like a really frustrating situation to be in. If you know you’ve made progress, then that’s what matters. I know it sucks when...
Eddiemodo
Others don’t validate it, but sounds like you’re doing better to me. I believe in you!!
