Fun fact: Paul Simon got the title for that song from a Chinese menu. It was a dish that combined chicken and eggs.

Sloths are so weird but so adorable at the same time
ArchMagos
Their skeletons are terrifying.
namAehT
Can you imagine a 10ft tall one? They used to live in south America a few thousand years ago.
HoneNathan
Try 20 foot ones. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6bgHVTooMcE

They try to poop as few times as possible, so when they do poop it's just one long, big, continuous coil that can be several inches long.

That was a rollercoaster of sloth emotions. Well, maybe one.
Rookvlees
Imagine how terrifying those things would be if they were like cheetah-fast.
ITellBadPuns
Imagine if they scurried like spiders. You look up a tree and just see this: ?noredirect

Also remember that there used to exist species of sloth that were the size of elephants.

And they existed alongside humans! Hunted to extinction by humans after they arrived in the Americas by crossing the land bridge.

I also had Paul Simon in my head. This reference - I understood it.

Scrolled down for this. Thank you.

Sloths are creepy looking...
Chezoso
How would they lose a child, it's not like they can get that far away from them
Kommissar00Schneider
Accidentally dropping them I'd guess
squintish
IIRC it was taken away for some kind of medical treatment.
aintnothinbutahounddog28
You're asking how a creature that lives high in a tree and whose baby hangs onto it could lose them?? Really? Are you looking for a more
complex answer than 'by the baby falling'?? You know how human babies have very strong grips compared to other muscles? Yeah that's to
help our ancient predecessors keep hold of mom so we didn't fall out of the tree. Add in sloths moving slowly and it gets real hard to get
down to baby. Anything that lives in trees can lose their baby by it falling
Pyrocy779
who hurt you?
KerowynsDragon
There’s a longer video which shows the baby in the middle of a street. Baby fell off when mom was moving them both to a new one.
An actual comment that makes sense. Much appreciated

I'd be like that with any child I found! Human or not! I'm such a mom!

Do you have any idea how creepy that sounds from another parents' perspective?

Have to wonder how that processes in a mind that is so used to "It's bigger than me, it's probably going to eat me".

Smell as much as anything. Humans don't smell like anything else. So it's more like a flying saucer giving our kids a lift home...
Jak8714
There's not a lot that actually try to eat sloths- they tend not to taste or smell great.
AnythingMuchShorter
They mainly avoid being eaten by being bad food, so they don't have much defensive instinct. I saw a documentary where an eagle took one and
it just kind of slowly looked around like it was calmly assessing it's situation.
