I thought Glass Onion did a decent job of portraying him until the nazi shit came out. He's not just an incredulous moronic loser incapable of creating anything on his own, who would literally kill to protect his giant stacks of money. He's also fully supports hurting and killing innocents based on nothing, people that are zero threat to him or his interests. He's one of the evilest men in the world. Every "good" thing he's done was to stroke his ego.
I've thought he was a giant spoiled manbaby since about 2018-ish, but now I know better - he's literally a Nazi. He wasn't just stupid, he was evil and stupid.
I liked Tesla for making EV's more popular. That's good. Didn't care about Musk, though obviously I should've. So for me he has gone from someone I didn't think of to a bottom of the barrel scumbag.
My guess is that when he fired his PR team and now his social media posting was pure musk, people finally saw the true version of him. And when he lost the liberals he found an even better group, the MAGAs. Because while for a time liberals adored him, they did still have members of their ranks that would fact check him or doubt his claims. The MAGA side however takes everything as gospel, Especially if it can be used to "own the libs".
Libs use to appreciate electric cars. But let's look at the chain of events: Musk's brand is expensive + poor build quality, then he overpromises + underdelivers + forgets, then he's a huge POS, then he's transphobe, then he's a, ...
I dunno how many of us actually liked him. We mostly just tolerated him because Teslas were the best electric option for a very long time and Starlink was a major game changer.
Yes. Tesla was the only real option on the market for EV for a long time, but now that every major manufacturer has options, the people have actual choices.
IMO, she started off with an imperfect but still compassionate and accepting opinion. But after catching flack from a tiny, toxic, hostile subset of the trans community -- every community has loud assholes -- she chose to triple-down and radicalize herself. So she went from "not entirely inclusive" to "rabidly transphobic" and, in doing so, ruined a beloved children's media icon for millions of people.
her original opinion wasn't worse than anything we've heard from family at Thanksgiving Dinner. "why remove the fem symbol from tampons?" Then she never quit talking and trying to explain herself from there.
I think her original opinion boiled down to "there's a unique lived experience of being raised female that you can't claim by being trans, so it's not fair to say that trans woman *are* women. But that doesn't mean they're not people worthy of respect and love "
Which, honestly, is a _little_ fair. The lived experiences _are_ different. But it's an argument about semantics that's missing the point.
Over the years, though, her response to criticism has been "well fuck *all of you* then." :(
she got a little too used to everyone listen to her opinions with bated breath. The internet isn't a book tour. It is out for blood and will hit back harder than you ever thought possible
There was a singular moment when she revealed herself as a TERF. Coulda rode off into the sunset as one of the most beloved children's authors of all time, but, she couldn't resist
There wasn't even a singular moment. I, along with a lot people, assumed she course-correct or reveal that her views were misinterpreted... She just kept doubling down.
When the right wing became Trump cultists. They can't imagine doing what the left did to Elongated Muskrat, to trump. They're sycophantic cultists who have been Brainwashed, simple as that.
Anti-intellectuals think changing your mind ever means that you admit you were wrong about something. Admitting you were ever wrong is a weakness when you're a brainless fascist
I was happy with electric cars; i was happy but wary when he started talking about space and Mars. I thought we have to colonize Mars and get stuff from the asteroids for a long time, but i was wary because every time a sales guy gets his grubby hands on an idea, the idea gets at least a little soiled. I never expected Musk to be such a scumbag, and the idea to get that soiled.
I admit I did like him until around 2019, but as I got more educated on him, and of course with the Nazi salute, I realized I was dead wrong, and I’m not afraid to admit that I was wrong, I know better now, it’s not a weakness to admit you don’t know everything and thrive for education, unlike Tump and the MAGA idiots who simply drink the cool aid
It's far, far worse than one salute though. The richest man in history does jack shit for the poor, the vulnerable, etc, making him the stingiest billionaire. And worse, he corrupts democracy by buying elections and letting Russians poison Twitter with false information. A shitty businessman, an evil citizen, a deadbeat dad. That salute? That's a breadcrumb in trail of misery
ask any of the major llms about this and the best you get is a "it has been widely seen as" bullshit answer. it's sickening. I saw it happen with my own eyes and people try to convince me it didn't happen.
One glimmer of hope was that Europeans immediately were having none of it and basically stopped buying any Teslas. Scars of WW2 are still very visible throughout Europe.
Showing anti-constitutional symbols is actually allowed in germany for purposes of education, reporting and defense against anti-constitutional aspirations. (to the point the Indiana Jones movies could show the swastika) The problem here is if some idiot prosecutor manages to obtain a TRO, the publisher has to recall all papers from circulation. By the time they win in court (and they absolutely would), it would be too late to put them back into circulation.
Technical note: Them not showing it has little to do with what they think about the salute, and more to do with what they think the court system will think about it.
Meanwhile there is much question untill the nazis just jail them because they don't appreciate being judged by people who know better than them they don't even like to think people can know better.
Oh his fuckassery had already been becoming apparent by that point. That's just the point where simple ignorance wasn't enough to not see it, it required outright denialism.
He hid it for a few years, and he probably could have kept hiding it if wasnt for his blatant narcissistic need to be validated by people on social media. As somebody else said I was always indifferent to him, until I saw the cracks.
True, and a multitude of reasons to dislike him for his handling of Tesla/Twitter and so many more... BUT I feel like this was the turning point for many people because it was so clear, so public, and so blatant that only the most brainwashed could ignore it.
I thought the turning point was his idiocy in thinking a submarine would help those Thai kids trapped in a cave. Then him having a fit and calling the real hero a pedofile.
Very true. But lots of people (including me) didn't know until recent years what a cunt he is because it wasn't such common knowledge, and/or he was hiding it better. In any case, it's a great example of why it's important for one to be able to change one's mind when presented with new information.
The first clue was the whole "Thailand cave rescue" thing, in which he accused the British national who wanted to help of being a pedo just because he'd retired to Thailand. That was rather "WTF?" of him but I kinda wrote it off at the time. Now we see who he really is. He's neo-Albert Speer.
Pretty much I never knew anything about him until he claimed all progress at SpaceX was because of him. Then I looked into and realized he is just a rich asshole claiming other people's accomplishments because he funded them.
As soon as my peers started talking about Musk I was excited to like him. Then I read about his plan for Mars... and the fantasy was instantly shattered.
I thought he was a childish twat when he called the cave rescuer, trying to save those boy’s lives, a pedo just because he said Musk’s rescue pod wouldn’t work and he was wasting time. Since then my opinion of him just keeps getting lower. He’s lower than rat shit.
Even then it was already becoming clear what he was. But if you go far enough back, it gets a little harder to tell, with most of the negative press being that he was very demanding of his employees.
Yeah that's when I actually started paying attention to him and realizing he sucked ass. Before I thought he was novel, like cool he started a rocket company and an electric car company. Then the more I learned the less I liked.
