Your cat has a drinking problem.

I have a cat that does this. He sits in the sink and meows until the water is turned on for him.

That’s so adorable

Refuses to drink water from anywhere else. Pain in my ass.

my cat will litterally drink from the toilet I just pissed in, but not the bowl with fresh clean water...

Is your username "unicorn science" or is it "unicorn" and "conscience" mixed together
Good question.

Just like my cat.

Cute, my cat does the same thing! He can be a real pain in the ass until he get “water time”.

What a champ! What’s not to love?
Eldibs
This is what it feels like trying to drink water in a dream. Never enough water.
Eucrow
Ok, now I have to record my tiny black kitty drinking from the faucet and send it to you so her and Teddy can date.
reflecter
Is Teddy waterproof?
FatNlazy
Those darn tootin’ whiskers always getting in the way.

One of my cats does this. Refuses to drink from a bowl. So annoying.

Cat water fountains are a thing. They prefer running water. It's a good investment, they drink more. Dehydrated cats get urinary problems.
Agreed! We have many fountains all away from food except one but he and his brother drink from all of them.
Also the water should not be in the same place as the food. Preferably in a different room.

when teddy's being a naughty boy, do you ever call him ted bundy? @op
Faaaaantastic
Hey imgur be my test group. I was thinking of inventing something your cat could step on at the sink to let water out. And when it walks...
Away the water would turn back off. Got the idea because my cat also loves sink water. Any thoughts?
Quichita
3am: turning on the water, turning off the water, turning on the water… let’s sit here and watch the water run for a while.
You have a great point. Proposed solution, a human toggle for enabling or disabling the device. For example when headed to bed disable it.
There you go! Give me three please!
Haha sounds good! Keep you posted.

Why are cats, who need water to survive, so awful at drinking water?
sortofkindamadbutnotreally
Why are cats, who are designed to be nature's adaptable gymnast, completely awful at sinks and domestication in general?
Seranna
Hey don't be mean to him, he is trying his best

I can’t speak for the outliers, but cats can’t see down towards their mouths very well so they struggle to get the distance correct.
That’s why cats often times dip their nose in the water in bowl… can’t tell where the water starts.
Prolyif
Cats don't actually drink much water in nature, instead they get a large amount of their water from consumed prey.
sal0qwerty
Iirc cats in the wild get most of their water from their food, their kidneys are efficient enough to drink seawater

Not a lot of cats drink from a faucet in the wild.

my cat is so dumb he will just stare at his full water dish.. not until he sees me pour more water in it will he drink from it
sixseasonsandamov1e
He will if he gets thirsty enough.
Im pretty sure that my cat doesnt trust us to refill it. Even though we feed and water regularly, he wont do it unless we add some lol
Kehy
Might have a vision issue and can't see the water unless it ripples? Had a cat like that
BorkBork7
Your cat may be near sighted. Some don't see it unless its moving since its clear. Try a fountain. Preferably one that is easy to clean.
My cats love their new fountain and are drinking more water than ever. Filtered water goes a long way too.
ConfederacyOfDunces
Isn't stagnant water more likely to be toxic in nature?
Yes. This is why you should change their water often. Their saliva gets in the water and makes it worse.
Everywhere, not just in nature
Ok, yes. I was mainly thinking cats probably instinctively prefer water with movement because stagnant = bad.
My ex had a cat that preferred moving water. Maybe yours does too. We got a little fountain for him instead of a water bowl and he loved it
tndastardlyj
I tried this for my current cat, dropped 70 aud on a cat fountain and he still sits at the tap waiting for me to turn it on for him.
Btch128
My cat is the same way
Doso777
Don't all cats prefer moving water? Moving water is better, less chance of getting sick from it.
I don’t know. I’ve only lived with two cats in my life. The one that preferred moving water and a princess that couldn’t be satisfied
ChaosInherent
It's pretty hard for them to see still water, that may be why.
I think it’s a instinctual. In the wild still water is usually undrinkable.
CarlottaVonSprockett
My dogs feel the same.
Step 1: get them a fountain proportionate to their size. Step 2: post it and tag me. Step 3: prob front page or at least my upvote
We have a fountain, and I made one video when it was new and they were still scared of it, lol.
WhatYearIsThis
I clean my cat’s water dish everyday day, fresh water twice a day. Yet she drinks from a stinky water-filled pot with a plant inside.
astrangehop
Smells the chlorine maybe!
I don’t think so bc the water (for her dish) comes from a filter. But idc, as long as she drinks water I’m fine with it
