ModernTenshi04
I told myself to remember to do this as I was plugging everything in for first boot a month ago and still forgot. ?♂️
sykotic1189
Ah, the stress I felt when I got an error message on the first boot only to find out I had to run power to the GPU. Never had one before...
innocuousnonsense
I built a monster.. like 5 or 6 years ago. Has the odd shutdown or freeze, like any system. But what shuts it down most? Audio glitches. Wut
GrumpyOldBoomer
Things haven’t changed much since I built my first w/ a 486DX. Sound Blaster drivers are crap.
GODzillaFH
I have one finger at the off-switch of the power supply...

I found a switch in the back of an old printer when I was about 14. That was a loud bang.
NonstopRampage
Huh. Looks kinda like mine- without the multicolor display.
Drew442
I do the same thing when I fix someone's old garbage pile of an elevator and test it at full speed.
Lp57
I built mine, turned it on and it didn't work. Silly me put both memory sticks in thinking that in the year of our lord 2020 you could.
VibratingNipples
I’m so glad I ordered me a prebuilt pc, still waiting for it to be shipped

Its not hard to build one, and very satisfying when it comes to life for the first time.
technicalfool
Now imagine the same thing but your CPU cost more than some entire builds, your RAM cost more than some entire builds, your loop cost more..
PikaChunin
If you have that kind of money, then you either know how to build it right, or you pay someone who does. :P
WoahMyDudeThatsCrazy
The problem is the side panel is on, if you put it on beforr making sure it boots then something WILL go wrong
RentedRedux
My motherboard flashes a blue light when first powered up. It looks like something arc'd. WHY WOULD THEY DO THAT?!
2 of 3 About a month later, I'm sitting on the sofa, surfing the Web, when I hear a loud BANG. Made me jump for sure. WTF? It was that MB!
3 of 3 Darn thing had nothing plugged into it. Then I saw it. One large capacitor had exploded: blew the top and innards out. After a month!
Addenda: I found the picture of the MB! THREE caps blew at once! /a/vL1SZZW
VanZaiden
Even after tens of built PCs, I still feel uneasy when pressing the power button for the first time.
TheDeathstick
The first 386 I built years ago the power button wasn't wired to the switch. Hooked it up wrong and POOF at the wall. I needed a new mobo.
VaultGirl69
That doesn't make me nervous. What makes me nervous is the popped battery in a laptop. Pcs just either work or don't.
kayakninjas
Sometimes PCs let out the magic smoke and then it's expensive.
I've never experienced this. ?
There's a fool-proof adapter on the graphics card. If you plug the wrong cable into it, you get to! And then you buy a new card and PSU. :(
Damn. Good thing I've been too broke to build/break new cards. Especially with jerks hoarding them to mine bitcoin.
Right? This was before it started spiking too bad, but if it happened again, I'd be screwed.
Try scraping a glued-in puffed up battery out of a macbook air. I think they bio-engineered the glue from mussels for some of them.
Oh, the last one I dealt with was an HP. And I guarantee I wouldn't try to crack that bastard open...
"Boy I sure hope this doesn't rupture and burn my face off with a jet of lithium fire!"

When you build a PC with a Gigabyte PSU.
GhostBoodakaGB
Dude fuck gigabyte so much. They fucked me over so hard with a 3080, and not because of any psu.
Bmxtucker
Gonna be real with you. Nvidia fucked you over with the 3080 not gigabyte. That card was trouble from the start.
I very much disagree with that. Early revisions MAYBE, and a lot of company’s fucked it up with having poscaps instead of MLCC caps.
But on the whole 3080 as long as it has the proper cooling solution and is using a proper capacitor array, should be fine. Haven’t had any
Issues with any other 3080 ever, and have a 3080ti in my personal build and it’s amazing.

Never doesn't happen. Absolutely never.
LupusLilium
Same but wasn't my first build, was my most recently computer. But I had been using laptops for so long that I kind of forgot about aspects
of having a desktop. Put everything together, double and triple checked all cables. Plugged in the power supply and hit the button. . . and
nothing happened. No attempt to turn anything on or boot up at all. Got worried I fucked something up, unplugged and opened the case to
check all cables. Checked the cables for the case power buttons again. Plugged it again and got the same result. Was absolutely sure I got
dead parts because -nothing- was out of place. As I was turning the case around to unplug it again, my eye caught the power switch.

Emrys12
I have ryzen and it couldnt have been easier? You literally get arrows how to put it in both on the mobo, and chip itself so it aligns, 1/2
Yes, he put it in fine. But the thermal paste stuck to it and as he kept trying to seat his cooler, he didnt notice he was bending all...
talianagisan
I almost had a first try after i put all my internals into a new case. But i fucking forgot to plug in the GPU power as i'm dumb.
