What is dangerous about coffee is the quantity of sugar you add to it.

And that’s actually dehydrate

WHAT THE FUCK IS RESTLESS WATER?

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Caffeine causes fluid loss.

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

If you drink American coffee it’s definitely only flavoured water

If there's anyone you should trust about biology it's a comedian.

This is still a debate?

Eating a bunch of coffee grounds to hydrate

"The baby boomers" lol

When people would give me shit about coffee "dehydrating you" I would ask them if they were about to die of thirst would an Iced americano help or not.

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well, that was interesting enough for me to fact check. Seems that is true. Which is nice

Restless water?
Another name for carbonated water?

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Restless water? Is that like some kind of water that's like me that has leg cramps or something at night

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I assume the idea that coffee is dehydrating comes from the fact that coffee is usually hot and you drink it slowly, you don't chug a whole bottle of it in one go, so that feeling of thirst will stay longer.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think it was from the idea that it makes you pee more, as a diuretic, as he says. That info was misconstrued as "dehydrates" but isn't correct and never was. It's people not understanding the point he's making here, that it adds in water too.

Despite the enormous amount of study behind the established benefits of coffee drinking, it still tastes like hot tar & wet cigar butts to me, so I'll pass on that in the morning. Btw, unfiltered coffee raises cholesterol due to compounds called cafestol & kahweol, which are diterpenes found naturally in coffee oil. So if you do drink coffee, FILTER it.

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Im not a big coffee person, but I occasionally drink it.... but unfiltered coffee? Is that a thing? That sounds awful

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Coffee still taste horrible tho, so no thanks.

Time to make a fresh pot

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don't laxatives also dehydrate you, you know for the people it has that effect on

Coffee is a Stockholm Syndrome.

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

And, according to this guy, coffee makes you talk real fast and sound like an absolute wanker.

5 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 8

To be fair, he looks like one too.

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 5

I've got an even better secret for you: you know what else keeps you hydrated? WATER!

5 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 5

It gets boring sometimes, most people like a little variety

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's literally all water. That's the entire fucking point. You get water from beverages, you get water from food. The only exception is really alcohol because it fucks with the hormones that regulate water retention in the body.

Doesn’t apply to my coffee. I make it very strong. Gave some to my coworker on night shift and she came back an hour later saying she was wide awake but couldn’t stop peeing. She is a coffee drinker, said she had a couple cups but was sleepy and afraid to drive home >hour away. I have to pee several times after drinking it, but Starbucks I can drink 2-3 and not need to pee for hours. It all depends on how much coffee you put in the pot. I put 6 tablespoons to a normal size french press.

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 7

...Yes, it makes you piss. He covers that. It's a diuretic. It ADDS IN more than you dump out. The strength of the coffee doesn't matter.

It wasn't the Boomers, it was the Corporations and the Billionaires. The Boomers got screwed too. And it all started when Reagan canceled the laws against monopolies. It allowed CEOs to take over an entire section of the economy [5 corporations control well over 80% of chicken; the price is going up so fast because they can get away with it, not because it's responding to bird flu, etc.] Other sections of the marketplace are the same. >

The Billionaires were Millionaires, until they cut wages and raised prices. And they do what the can to get people to see other groups as the enemy. When we ALL see it, the guillotines will come out.

"Restless water", huh? I like the French 'eau gazeuse' a lot: almost as much as I like 'eau plate'. You think only soda can be flat? Think again!

5 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Is that what he meant? Carbonated water?

5 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It seems so - "still" vs "restless" water.

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You can keep your dirty bitter bean water. I'll stick to my bubbly sweet water.

5 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 6

I can't really do soft drinks or even juice nowadays. Too damn sweet

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I like bean water. And I like bubbly water. But I always prefer bitter to sweet. Give me a grapefruit seltzer over that corn syrup nastiness any day.

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Mmmm I miss grapefruit. Stupid meds

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I agree corn syrup is gross. I always go for the 0 calorie stuff, so it doesn't have any corn syrup in it. The 0 calorie sweeteners do have their own aftertaste that almost never goes away though.

I've never found a sugar alternative that doesnt taste like ass. :(

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Know what else helps you poo? A cup of hot water.

5 months ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 0

Hot water is a diuretic! Unhealthy! Pee pee more!

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Know what else? The first two large goblets of mulled cider every fall. I look forward to it like a holiday.

5 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

So... Not shoving 400g of freshly picked nettles up your ass? That homeless man behind the circle k lied to me!

Now I'm wondering about alcoholic drinks. Is there a difference between beer and vodka (and I don't mean, that a pint has more water than a shot; but I wonder if the 5% beer acutally hydrates better than 40% vodka, or if it's still about the same, in terms of hydration - then again they 40% pure alcohol of 100% vodka isn't water, only 60% is then water (prolly) )

5 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Even pure alcohol is mostly water after your body breaks it down. But not 100%. So beer hydrates you more.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I suck at chemistry, but maybe you can help me understand. How is CH3CH2OH [imgur doesn't display notations correctly] = Ethanol (drinking alcohol) converted to water.
I see a lot of hydrogen, some oxygen. Do you have the reaction formula?

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It becomes water and carbon dioxide. Count the hydrogens, divide by 2 and you will get the number of water molecules. (3xH2O) (2 extra O:s from air)

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you for explaining!

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Alcohol suppresses vasopressin hormones, which tell your body to hang onto the water it has rather than cycle it out as urine. That's why the amount of water in an alcoholic beverage doesn't matter as much because it'll just exist the system regardless of whether the body could use it because the signal is down.

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

ok, so that is the drinking > dehydration > hangover process

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I’ll stick to tea thank you.

5 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Oh, but that's a diuretic. You'll get dehydrated.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Amen, I love coffee but in recent years the caffein is just too much for my body's nervous system. Switching to tea solved 95% of those issue

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

For me it’s more so the smell makes me sick. I have a pretty good sense of smell and when I was young my dad used to make “hobo coffee” where he would make and reheat coffee in a small pot all day and just stank so bad when he would burn it sometimes so the smell just about makes me want to throw up.

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Used to live near a coffee factory (is that what they’re called?) and every morning walking to school it would smell of roasted coffee and it was awful. I don’t mind the soluble coffee though
