I know, this has been everything you've seen for the last few weeks, months, or years. I know, it's hard to care anymore. It's exhausting and never-ending and it feels like despite the effort, things keep going to shit.
But now we're at a point in the US where we don't have any more cushion. We're threadbare on our liberties and despite that, we're being stripped of even more.
This is not a time for apathy, just because a Democrat is president. This is not a time for apathy, just because Democrats have a majority. We've seen what damage so few can do against the will of the people. We've seen what can, and will, happen if left unchecked.
Tell your friends. Your family. Check up on them and make sure they know if they're registered to vote in the upcoming elections. The due dates for registration vary, and are coming up fast. Make plans with them to go vote in person, or help someone figure out the often complex process of mail-in voting if they can't.
Making plans like this with your friends or family, even if it seems silly to you, can help them make the decision to vote. They're less likely to feel intimidated, they're more likely to be comfortable making the trip, and honestly, who likes waiting in line by themselves for hours at a time? Bring some snacks, play some games, go get something to eat afterwards. Just get yourselves to the voting booth.
Did Not Vote is the largest party in the US. How much change could we accomplish if everyone helped just one other person make their vote count? In a group of three friends, statistically one will not vote. You know and care about someone who, while eligible to vote, won't. Often this is because of scheduling constraints, lack of knowledge of the process, or simply having an issue with their registration.
We have the numbers to make a change. We have to leverage those numbers. We have to show our majority, full force, and stop this madness. I'm not asking you to campaign and hand out flyers, I'm asking you to find one person, and help them get to the booth and vote.

Why the fuck do you even have to register to vote in the first place?
TheLiteraryMachine
Just fixed my address and got my voter registration card in the mail the other day. I'm ready!
xenomorph911
Awesome! Now pass it along to folks you know. You'd be surprised how often people don't know if they're even able to vote!
DeakVanNyke
what the hell US.. you cant just go and vote? you have to register first? is at least online or by mail? or must be in person?
xenomorph911
You have to register, ensure your information is up to date, and ensure they haven't purged you from the roster for some inane reason. 1/2
xenomorph911
2/2 Ever since Trump, mail in voting has been made more difficult by conservatives, claiming fraud if the vote isn't for them.
IceWeaselX
I keep checking my registration every few months even though I've been registered by default for a long time. Non-white in a red state.
afatrollofmyown
I check mine every month since I've been removed twice.
AVaguelyFamiliarUsername
Americans have to first register to vote and then still wait hours in a line? What the hell? Maybe you guys want to adapt a better system?
AVaguelyFamiliarUsername
Here in Germany they send you an election notification and the adress where you can cast your vote to your home adress.
AVaguelyFamiliarUsername
Also even in smaller towns there are usually dozens of places so you can usually even walk to the next poll station...
AVaguelyFamiliarUsername
The longest time I ever waited was about 10 minutes.
Onlyhereforthelaughs
I am registered. I most recently voted in our special election to replace that dead Hagedorn asshole.
LeoKiltGuy
USA? USA.
xenomorph911
Honestly, we're trying. The majority of us aren't insane, but the systems already in place magnify the ones who are and it hurts us all.
AlcoholicsAnonymousBYO
Honestly? All respect from me in New Zealand, you gals and guys are still battling after decades of this Fourth Reich bullshit.
Gibleteousjack
It's about to the point where we may have to amputate a few digits, or even entire limbs.
vnqx
Who wants to pay for me to move to a swing state?
SlickWithaLimerick
I cut a friend out of my life in 2016 when he refused to vote and drumpf won. What a fuckin man-baby.
Bizarkly
Happily, I've already been helping elect people to the extent that now everyone from my local Council rep to my President is a Democrat!
xenomorph911
That's great to hear! We all have to keep it up and turnout for 2022- there's too much for too many people depending on it.
somethingsomethingaskingforafriend
Apathy is your enemy, Empathy is your ally!
SidewalkWidflower
Go vote, Americans, you know Linda Skeens will in between her baking
NoSirIDoNotHaveBoloneyInMyPants
Classic Linda.
danneverlose
It's so bizarre to me that other countries don't have compulsory voting. A country isn't democratic unless everyone's views are counted.
Traskus
More importantly, be ready for the inevitable losses. The system has been set up to benefit the gqp. Be ready to see them win.
Isaveimages
"People are voting for fascists so I'm not going to vote to counter that, it's tiresome.". Voting is way easier than rioting. Courage !
xenomorph911
The First Past the Post system means that losing is the same as not playing at all. But we have the numbers to win, and we all need to try.
DumbShitIsMyTrigger
One of my most political friends, who howls and lectures everyone after a few puffs of weed, is not registered. He's nearly 40
amiurume
Talk to people you know in swing and heavy red areas. Get them to vote too!
Santorrr
I never understood why the fuck would you need to separately register to vote. You are a citizen already, right?
xenomorph911
It's a tool to stop poor, working class people from voting. Who has the time to wade through paperwork when you're paycheck to paycheck?
k0b0ldqcca
Being Canadian, I will never understand why you have to register to use your right to vote.
SedatedSl0th
Frustratingly we already DID vote. I’m disappointed my vote for Biden is where it got us. :(
xenomorph911
2022 has 35 Senate seats contested. That's what matters. The Senate is deadlocked because of 1-2 seats, so every one is crucial.
SedatedSl0th
Oh I’m still gonna vote. It’s still frustrating to me.
Lulabel73
Also if you’re a “my vote doesn’t count” person, I ask what’s the harm in voting anyway.
Ianiant
to your way is not the right way to go about it. (2/2)
Lulabel73
Who’s threatening?! Your own guilt is driving this pointless comment.
Ianiant
I didn't vote once, and people really tried to hurt me.
Lulabel73
Then tell them
Ianiant
I didn't vote once, and a bunch of people online attacked me for it. I hate how Roe v. Wade was overturned, but threatening people (1/2)
ProfessorDumbass
This will be Trumps last shot. He has to lose. VOTE
Muffyns
What about 2024?
NotAPervert
That comes after. 2022 decides if there’s any meaningful election to be had in 2024.
xenomorph911
2022's Elections will have just as much impact, if not more, on our continued freedoms. Vote in ALL elections!
GiantSquanchy
Get your lazy friends to register too!
xenomorph911
Yep! Numbers favor our freedoms, and turnout is the biggest variable we can change. +1 your vote by helping a buddy get to the polls!
LordHosk
I am clinging to a tiny shred of hope. Republicans just took away the carrot they have been dangling in front of their base for 30+ years.
xenomorph911
Even if it looks hopeless, numbers favor our freedoms. If everyone voted, this wouldn't be an issue. Find a friend, bring them to the polls.
LordHosk
and in winning this very painful victory that will hurt A LOT OF PEOPLE they lost unity, AND united everyone against them in hate and fear.
LordHosk
Many Republicans have been single issue voters for decades "stop abortion save babies" they have it now, they can stay home.
TheSmoothSayer
I live in America’s shit stain (Florida), so there isn’t much I can do. I’ll vote, but all the white trash/gerrymandering here makes >
sandwiched
Oi! Learn biology & geography, you! Florida's America's flaccid penis. Duh.
kamkor1
If enough people vote gerrymandering won't matter
ThomasThundersword
i mean. it absolutely will still matter. but i can be overcome by enough people voting.
eightyearplan
https://democrats.org/tak">tion/">https://democrats.org/take-action/ , https://www.dsausa.org/chapters/
EggFooYung
Vote anyway! Florida had more Covid deaths than the margin DeSatan won by. You can do it!
akdude
alaska here mate, we find out who the prez is before our poles close
Sdogofdoom
That's the attitude to drop. I live in Texas, a red state, and we are getting damn close to being blue. Vote.
WrathOfJigglypuff
LOL, Texas will take even that away from you!
Mack1986
Your governor won by less votes than the daily headcount in Disney world. Fucking vote
Asgth
I feel like the daily headcount at Disney world would be higher than the population of Florida based on pictures i have seen.
mirrorz
I live in America's shit stained taint. (Texas) I know the feeling.
Iaimtomisbehave
Hang in and help if you can. https://www.votetexas.gov/get-involved/ Also:
gorillaClutch
texan here also, still, fight. where i live only 9% of registered voters voted last election, doesn't take much to tip the scales, show up
xenomorph911
Texas and Florida were, and still are, close states, even if it doesn't feel that way. Please keep at it, and bring a friend to the polls.
TheSmoothSayer
it damn near impossible for any democratic candidate to win. Like I said, still will try though.
xenomorph911
Floridian here, too, friend. Hold fast, and bring every single person you can wrangle to help defy the obstacles we have in our way.
Chereazi
Florida is purple, elections are very close, even with gerrymandering. The GOP just wants you to think it's pointless to keep people away
amiurume
Don't be cheeky either, vote for Democrats. 3rd parties are useless.
RazerFlash
Ready to vote BECAUSE of party affiliation. A decent person in the gop is still a person sharing a party with nazis, racists, and trump.
DigiT00l
There is no such thing as a decent GOP
tronicles
A large reason Trump won to begin with was because of lack of voting. You're right. No time for apathy. Or anarchy. We can do better.
RedWingedBlackbirds
Please everyone vote - local, state, all elections - especially in the midterms. https://www.vote.org/am-i-registered-to-vote/
crossingdynasty
Someone that stands with a Nazi is also a Nazi
SwordSaint32
why did you say the same thing three times?
eetsumkaus
because Trump isn't the only Nazi or racist in the GOP?
SwordSaint32
Fair enough
RazerFlash
But also will be vetting the dem choices.
xenomorph911
Make sure you check up on your friends and be sure they know what they need to do to ensure their vote is counted- it's too easy to mess up.
RedWingedBlackbirds
Please everyone vote - local, state, all elections - especially in the midterms. https://www.vote.org/am-i-registered-to-vote/
camtin
sounds like we need to change the system
Nopearope
But the system is Working As Intended according to those in charge.
parkerh17
Well there you go easy litmus test that we should all make a big deal. If the next dem primary debate candidates are not asked questions>
parkerh17
Like would you expand the Supreme Court, will you fight to end the electoral college, etc. Don't vote for ppl that profit off the system>
parkerh17
And tell you everything is fine. We need to grill home that political reform is a major driving force we won't elect you without supporting
maydai110
So dv me, I'll take it, but genuine question. Green Party affiliation. If I forget that in favor of bringing Team R down, what is the point>
gesel
Don't let the great be the enemy of the good.
gesel
In 2016, when trump was /just/ an idiotic buffoon, socialist/green affiliated were flooded with enervating propaganda of false equivalence..
gesel
and divisive agitprop amplifying grievances. It wasn't obvious to everyone them the trajectory. It is clear now. You win against rising...
gesel
fascism now by voting strategically or tomorrow your choice will be between submission and war.
maydai110
But I mean we fight against rising fascists like fascists fight against communism. What if I don't like either side?
maydai110
Of having a democracy in the first place? Just have two parties and amass armies to go to wars every few years like the ancient Greeks.
mikeatike
Xedi22
That point is making things better with what we have now. This isn’t the time for token gestures that help the assholes. Fight for that…
Xedi22
…change, but not by voting in a way that works against it. It’s the result that matters here not the “gesture”. If we can get better…
Xedi22
…voting methods, then we can vote how we want vs how we need. The R’s want your vote split, and use you as a tool. Don’t let them.
xenomorph911
We need to get ranked choice voting in place, and end Two-Party. And you do that by voting. Alaska somehow managed it, so can the rest.
That0neguy727
I try to break things down to basics. Green party cannot win without ranked choice voting (see AUS). Voting anything other than R or D (1)
That0neguy727
as it stands is not contributing one way or another (neither side politicians care about 3rd party desires.) Dems win strongly and (2)
That0neguy727
repeatedly = more opportunities to advance as a society. Repubs win just a little bit more right now likely means that no more "public (3)
That0neguy727
votes" will be of any effect in the future.
Primotimewaster
My narcissistic idiot sister never registered because she doesn't want to get a summons for jury duty. She doesn't work & has all the free
ProfessorDumbass
Tell her you put her name into the jury pool. Now she has no reason not to vote
Primotimewaster
time to do whatever she wants. Of course, she complains about politicians & their shitshow.
xenomorph911
Only .02% of Americans in 2014 served Jury Duty. If she won't vote when her rights are on the line, try and help someone who might.
wingineer
Possibly depending on the state, having a driver’s license will register her for jury duty anyway, so she might as well register.
Primotimewaster
She's never been summoned. I have 5 times. But, I'll happily do my civic duty by going to jury duty AND voting.
mithiwithi
I've been summoned twice and served once, but I also have a very good job and a lot of savings. 1/2
mithiwithi
There are a lot of people in this country who literally cannot afford to perform jury duty for anything but the shortest of trials. 2/2
cyrusthevyrus
Sounds like my wife-summoned 4 times, I've never been, but I'm the one of us that would like the chance to serve. I'm tempted to write and
cyrusthevyrus
ask if they would pick me next time, lol (I know, it doesn't work that way...)
UdensZirnis
Someone remind me why does one have to REGISTER to vote if it supposedly is their right?
duoplicity
Address determines which state, congressional district, county, city, district, etc one lives which determines the races one gets to vote in
duoplicity
President, senator, representative, governor, state reps, mayor, judges, sheriff, city council, and so on including legislative measures
duoplicity
It also puts one in the jury duty pool which also is local, as are school boards
duoplicity

FiftyShadesOfMascarpone
Over here they send out notifications informing all citizens aged 18+ of the election type, date, location etc. Makes it easy for 1st timers
Gibleteousjack
Just another tool to oppress the poor.
xenomorph911
We shouldn't. But the people least likely to have time and resources to spare to wade through paperwork are poor, working class people.
NoSirIDoNotHaveBoloneyInMyPants
Yeah, very odd thing. I don’t think they have a way to keep records of people & no IDs or identification numbers.
UdensZirnis
I thought their social security number was their persona code. Or their passport number.
NoSirIDoNotHaveBoloneyInMyPants
I don’t think they have a central database for those so if you change state you disappear. Also passport less common, about 50% have one.
Choe8
As an European I will never understand why america make their citizen register to be able to vote. What is even the logic behind it...
NoSirIDoNotHaveBoloneyInMyPants
I think most Europeans get registered at birth.
Karukos
As I understand, the original reason cited was verification that you exist. The reality has always been to deny acess to the unwanted.
Choe8
Shouldnt it be the governments responsibility to register and keep count of their citizen and not the other way around??
Karukos
Probably. Idk my dude, I find it as confusing as you
FiftyShadesOfMascarpone
The US is not a developed country. There are still people w/o birth certificates.Poor women give birth at home w/o certified midwife present
FiftyShadesOfMascarpone
Imagine a country where not everyone has access to healthcare. A hospital birth is expensive. Even a midwife costs money. Many are dirt poor
