Opening up a game store. Wish me luck!

Sep 15, 2017 2:18 AM

The girlfriend and I are going into business together. The space is getting cleaned up, painted and new carpet is being installed.

We should be open by November 1!

Dog tax. This is my pupper, Magnet.

good luck! my husband wants to do this too, but we live in the middle of nowherr

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

That's exactly why you should do it. So many table gamers are limited by location, often rural.

good luck ... keep us posted ... informed ... whatever

Good doggy name. +1

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Where are you at? I'll give you a shout on my radio show regardless! Good luck!

I'll let y'all know with the next update.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I do VG artwork! If you need some decor lemme know! I can hook you up with some sweet prints! (Or even custom stuff if you want)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Please don't go with carpet! So hard to clean.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'd love tile, but good commercial grade tile is expensive. Plus, the floor isn't entirely level.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Carpet tiles, easier to clean and if you buy more than needed then you can swap out dirty ones for clean ones instantly.

Try and make it a pokestop or gym if you can, people still play Pokemon GO.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Prioritize events and game space! Bodies in store means they spends dollars! :) the best thing about a game store is a place to hang out.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Also good luck!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Community and gameplay are our #1 priority. I want people to enjoy hanging out here!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Godspeed you poor bastard. Ran my own game store for nearly 3 years before it imploded on me financially. Hit me up to know what not to do

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A game store near me died last week. Good luck. I hope you fare much better.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Where are you?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

About 45 minutes outside of Atlanta

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you need a name for the store, try GameGo.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'll let you guys know the name once we have made more progress.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Or Cornelius Breadington's Game Emporium

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Will you be renting games or just selling?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We'll have a free-to-use board game library to use in the store.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

please tell me you'd include magic the gathering!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Of course, that's the bread and butter product for every store.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Make sure to sell snacks and pop. Beer if allowed in your jurisdiction.

9 years ago | Likes 53 Dislikes 1

And pay more than gamestop for old games and systems

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

and security cameras. never be too safe.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Not sure gamers would need to buy security cameras

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

shit gets very expensive. people will literally steal anything from anyone, retailers know that, small business' should too.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

@op this is the best idea ever. Hands down.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

We'll have snacks and sodas, but no beer. Too much risk and not family friendly. :-/

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Our motel recently adopted a "No kids" policy. It's really made things a lot better...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So if the stress and long hours break you up, who keeps the store?

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

She does.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Good luck. You're going to need a hell of a lot of it. Keep it bright, run events, and _police_ the atmosphere.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No body odor allowed. Some shops can smell like feet on Friday nights.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I meant more the social atmosphere, but yeah, minimum standards for cleanliness and a basket of free deodorant in the bathroom will help.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wow your doing so well they cleaned you out already!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Where da store at?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'll let y'all know in the next update.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Tips for getting more customers that stay: good ventilation, natural light, high ceilings (so rip out those boards), proper food and drinks.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Dog becomes manager?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Dog is head of security.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Make sure to talk about this on BGG to spread interest. I'm an avid board gamer but unfortunately not in the US. Best of luck mate!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'll be on BGG! And Reddit, Twitter, Facebook and every other social media.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Gonna sell any warhammer shit?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I worked at a hobby game store for several years when I was younger and still frequent the store as an adult. (40k/wmh) it's an awesome -->

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Place for people to hang out and play and have a blast, make sure you host regular mtg, board game and mini nights to build the community!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

That's what we're hoping to become!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What type of game store? (Computer/console, cards, something else?) Good luck

9 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Board games, tabletop, miniatures, etc. I didn't think to be specific, but we're not selling video games.

9 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 2

Consider it. Gamestop makes a crapton of money selling used games, no reason not to get in on the action.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

GameStop has had to shut down stores and bring in lots of geek merchandise. The digital transition is killing them.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Tabletops for the tabletop god [yells in space marine]

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Organising event for beginner and amateur regulary is a good option. Make it friendly for new people too. A lot of non-geek/nerd people ...

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

... are interested in board game too but are afraid to do the first step or just simply dont know.

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

That's what we're shooting for!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Rethink carpet? People spill.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As someone with no GW store nearby, your kind of business is doing the Lord's work

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

What's your marketing strategy?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Place to play with cafe ?

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I still have the pipe dream of opening my own B&M game shop but I just dont think I could handle the types that would hang out all day.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Depends on the market. If there's no competition you can actually run one in a relatively small town. It becomes a social hub.
